Wan is a fictional character in Nickelodeon's animated television series The Legend of Korra, a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. The character was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and is voiced by Steven Yeun.

Creation and conception[edit]

Steven Yeun voices Wan

Personality and characteristics[edit]

Wan has been brash and attempts to steal food from the rich. After Wan fused with Raava, he seeked Peace, Love and Understanding. Wan's fusion with Raava helped begin the Avatar cycle.

Appearances[edit]

Book Two: Spirits[edit]

Living when humans live on the Lion Turtles after the mainland has become home to countless spirits, Wan deliberately obtained the power of Fire, and later befriended the spirits on the mainland. One day, Wan separates the spirits Raava and Vaatu in their fight, and learns from Raava that Vaatu is a spirit of disorder and destruction. With Raava as a conduit to obtain the power of Air, Wan travels to gain control of Water and Earth to prepare for the 'Harmonic Convergence' in which Vaatu and Raava will compete. When Wan finds his human and spirit friends fighting each other, he combines himself with Raava to diffuse them; but becomes exhausted. Once entering the Southern spirit portal, Wan battles Vaatu before convincing Raava to rejoin him and uses the portal to become the Avatar, bonding Wan and Raava forever. With his new power, Wan defeats Vaatu and seals him in the Tree of Time before sealing both gates. Thereafter Wan spent his remaining years keeping peace among the humans who established the four nations, with Raava establishing his reincarnation cycle. Millenia later, visions of Wan came to Korra and told her how he became the first Avatar to recover Korra's memories.

Relationships[edit]

Reception[edit]

Max Nicholson of IGN praised Steven Yeun for his vocal performance as Wan. Nicholson also lauded the deep character development of Wan and how he became the first Avatar. Wan has also been known for being similar to Disney's Aladdin.[1]
