Hi Dave, thanks for your comments and constructive criticism on the electrical sensitivity page. I have written a long reply which you may be interested to look at on the discussion page there. Will be interesting to see what people come up with. I guess we will both have a bit of a POV on this one :-) As a matter of fact I have never been an anti-mast campaigner (it seems totally illogical to me that people shout about masts when they walk round all the time with mobile phones pressed to their heads - what about the inverse square law?!), but unfortunately people with severe hypersensivity to EM waves will be the one group of people who can be affected (and fortunately it is so far a very rare condition at the severe level - I hope it remains that way). Funnily enough I am also from Portsmouth - Cosham to be exact (so have contributed a new page on that which should hopefully be less controversial!). No listed buildings there that I can think of (the two most interesting ones were sadly demolished when I was a child - it was the Tricorn and Portsdown Park era). Thanks for your comments, Ian. It's true that with my job, I guess I'm by no means the most neutral source either. :) Though I don't work in a technical field or radio planning, I do have some interest in keeping up with news of the latest research.

My concern with the alleged health implications of electrical appliances is the question of, by what means and due to what cause (technical or biological), is the health effect supposed to actually occur? Would it be due to possible thermal heating of the affected area (where most research has previously concentrated), or is due to a particular wavelength or frequency interacting with the body in some way? And if so, how? Or by some other means? Until some sort of mechanism by which illness could be caused is identified (and various campaign groups cite different causes), I find it difficult to accept that there is a scientific basis for the symptoms people claim to suffer.

I used to live in Hilsea as a child before moving to Fareham - perhaps I should follow your lead and write a page on the area :) Another one to add to the work list...

durham21 Link

Hi,

You changed my external link of durham21.co.uk on the Durham University page, saying that the 21 is not italicised on the site. This is certainly true for the main page, but if you check the about page then you will see that it is italicised here. Erm, indeed, you appear to be correct. Inconsistency from d21 - there's a surprise. :) I must admit, I've never seen it italicised like that before, and I don't think I've ever seen it in general use like that. I suspect the current masthead is more recent than the last time the 'About' page was updated. Perhaps it's an internal preference amongst d21 people - though, as you say, it's a minor issue. :) Change it back if you want, but I think personally it's clearer non-italicised. Wondered if you might be interested in helping

Hi, I've recently been expanding Town and country planning in the United Kingdom quite a bit and have started a subcategory called [Category:United Kingdom Planning Law]. I've really written up a bit of a skeleton for this area of planning. The planning acts, the new planning structure, PPS's, all those bloody new abbreviations LDF,LDD,RSS etc.etc. So far the majority of it are stubs and I was wondering if someone like yourself, with more of a planning background than myself might be interested in lending a hand in some way. Most of the articles so far are pretty dry statements of fact(I think) and could do with some context, structure/re-structure, debate, proof reading etc.etc. I'm a complete novice at Wikipedia and sure there's a heap of no-no's I've committed (Posting direct to talk pages?!?). Page Blanking

On 07-Apr, you blanked Moseley and Kings Heath. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've changed this to redirect to Moseley and Kings Heath Ward. Thanks for your comment. You are quite right that I blanked the page for Moseley and Kings Heath; that was because the page was only a redirect, which was incorrectly going to the wrong target; therefore, it was to break the redirect. At the same time, I proposed a request for move and rename of Moseley and Kings Heath Ward, to the former. This is so that the naming convention for Birmingham wards can be preserved. Spam at Gerrards Cross

I've noticed similar spam in other articles of places in the Beaconsfield area (thebestof.beaconsfield link). I challen ged the person adding it and was told that it was a legitimate information source. The tenacity of this guy is incredible! Reading some of his rants, I seriously think he might be mentally ill. At the very least, he has an inflated sense of self-worth given that he writes articles about himself in the third person (see Brighton talk page for URL). David Cameron

Please don't revert the wording of the sentence in the David Cameron article about the Bullingdon Club a third time. The sentence you have now twice altered was one settled on after extensive discussion back at the time DC was first elected. I think it is important to present a fair and balanced view of David Cameron's past - accusing people who are merely trying to keep the article balanced of "POV pushing" is excessively rude. --SandyDancer 17:15, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Gyro Monorail

This article concentrates on explaining how this type of monorail works, which implies that it does, in fact, work. Indeed, it does state that all three pioneers built full scale prototypes, and Brennan's machine is depicted in the picture. Please take the trouble to read the article, before passing comment.

As far as depth of the analysis is concerned, believe me, this is probably as accessible as it gets, the source material is much worse. After all, we are talking about the dynamics of gyroscopes; a subject which trained professional engineers flinch at.

Making it accessible to the general reader is not an easy task - it becomes either so bland as to say nothing of value, or presents a mass of mathematical formulae and gobbledegook. I suggest you look at some of the physics or maths articles for this other extreme. This explains in prose, what a few lines of calculus would demonstrate.

I do not agree with the principle of restricting ourselves to the 'what' of a subject, it is legitimate to stray into 'why' and 'how'. Otherwise all we are left with are lists of phrases a parrot could recite, rather than real knowledge Gordon Vigurs 09:30, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

If you have been to see the website, it clearly states at the top - Gosport Ferry Company Ltd. I think the website is down at the moment but it will be at www.gosportferry.co.uk . It is about the whole entity not just the ferry service, so it will remain at the original article namespace. Unisouth 10:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The comapny that is part of that company is the original title of that article. Why dont you wait until the website is back up then we make a decision. It isn't a suitable alternative as it clearly states it just about the ferry. It is about the cruises, tours and the ferry. And to a lesser extent - the pontoons themselves.
