August 2020[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Ayoze Pérez, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 20:07, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello Dan Treacy and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions, such as the ones to WAGs, do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox (but beware that the contents of the sandbox are deleted frequently) rather than in articles.

If you still have questions, there is a new contributors' help page, or you can click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Tacyarg (talk) 20:45, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bit confused by the removal as the edit was completely factual Dan Treacy (talk) 20:56, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan, I know this may come across as counter intuitive, but Wikipedia does not care about facts. Wikipedia simply summarized what reliable sources say about a subject. What you know to be true does not matter (see original research). In addition, Wikipedia must take great care with biographies of living people so content is required to cite a reliable source; otherwise, it must be removed per policy. If you have a source, you must cite it. You may find this guide easier to follow than the ones above. If there are no reliable sources to support the content, you should not add it. Period. I hope this is helpful. If you have any additional questions or need help, you can reach out the to Teahouse. S0091 (talk) 21:18, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. If I was to attach the article from the newspaper that ran the story would that be sufficient? It was published online some weeks ago Dan Treacy (talk) 22:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan. You are welcome to add your contribution back with a link or citation to the article. The guide S0091 suggests above will help you to do so. I'm not entirely sure how relevant it is to the WAGs article, as from what you've said the child in the drama isn't a "wife or girlfriend", but will leave you and others to make this decision. Best wishes, Tacyarg (talk) 06:22, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have attached the link for the news item as well as the edit from yesterday. I trust this is acceptable. regards Dan

Hi Dan, I reverted your change again because Facebook is not a reliable source for such things. See WP:SOCIALMEDIA for additional information. You mention a news item. Do you have an article from a newspaper or the like? Also, you did not add the citation properly. Had it been something usable, I would have simply fixed it for you (no biggie) but I do again suggest reading the guide. S0091 (talk) 13:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies. I thought I had attached the news article. Not sure what the Facebook comment refers to. I will read the guidelines and try again. Regards. Dan Dan Treacy (talk) 13:56, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

When I clicked on the link, it took me to Facebook. You can see what you added here. S0091 (talk) 14:02, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/tv/ayoze-perez-newcastle-comedy-series-18250884

Hopefully that is the correct link this time. I have That is an article in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle from May this year. The edit follows;

After leaving Newcastle, Perez became the subject of a comedy drama based on a true story when a teenage girl convinced her parents to buy the property next to his. On the day they moved in, Perez was transferred to Leicester City. The show, starring ex-Emmerdale star Charlie Hardwick and local stand-up comedian, Mike Milligan was recorded by the Newcastle Evening Chronicle as “the most incredible story to come out of the WAGS generation”

Give it a go! The best fit is the Personal life section. It certainly does not belong in the lead. S0091 (talk) 17:31, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am very confused. You have just asked me to put that edit in the personal life section along with the newspaper link to confirm it. That's exactly what I have done?? Explain please Dan Treacy (talk) 18:10, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MaterialScientist is another editor, in fact an administrator. I think what happened is when you added the content in your first edit, you had not yet added the source so your edit was "flagged" as a potential issue (unsourced content to a WP:BLP). I reverted them and fixed the citation. S0091 (talk) 18:15, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks Dan Treacy (talk) 18:22, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, if need help with anything you can ask at the Teahouse. You are also welcome to ask me on my talk page but may not be able to reply timely. I just happened to notice your comments here because your talk page is on my Watchlist, which worked well over the last couple days but may not always. S0091 (talk) 18:50, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's useful. Thank you, especially for your patience... Dan Treacy (talk) 22:31, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! I think that went both ways. Editing Wikipedia can be frustrating. The best one can do is communicate and try to understand. S0091 (talk) 22:36, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Glad it worked out! Tacyarg (talk) 07:46, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
