March 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Mount Kilimanjaro has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wphuLtnO_Y (matching the regex rule \byoutube\.com). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. Video links are also strongly deprecated by our guidelines for external links, partly because they're useless to people with slow internet connections.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 10:03, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Mount Kilimanjaro do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to Mount Kilimanjaro. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Mount Kilimanjaro, you will be blocked from editing. Favonian (talk) 16:20, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is the final warning that you are receiving regarding your disruptive edits.
The next time you use Wikipedia for advertising, as you did with Mount Kilimanjaro, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Favonian (talk) 16:24, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for spamming or advertising. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. User request for unblock[edit]

I copy below an email sent to me by this user. JohnCD (talk) 20:51, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John
Can you remove my block as i would like to post information about the guitarist daniel rex pearson which hasn't been covered on Wiki. o was blocked for trying to put a link to a documentary on Kilimanjaro as an external link for people interested in climbing the mounting. I feel being blocked was very unfair for this as i feel the video is useful and detailed as well as being unbiased.
Dan

Reply, declining[edit]

You were not blocked so much for adding an inappropriate link as for repeatedly trying to add it despite all the explanations and warnings on your talk page. The way that Wikipedia works is summed up as Bold, Revert, Discuss - if you think a change would improve the encyclopedia, be bold and make it; but if it is then reverted, do not simply repeat it, but discuss it on the article talk page, and try to come to a Consensus with other editors. If you cannot agree, there is a Wikipedia:Dispute resolution process.

I am not minded to unblock you, because it seems the reason for your request is that you want to write about yourself. This suggests that you have not yet understood that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a sort of super-Myspace for people to post about themselves and their travels. Please read Wikipedia:Autobiography for the reasons why this is strongly discouraged, and WP:LUC and WP:PROUD for the reasons why people who have started articles about themselves have often regretted it.

If after you have read those you still want to be unblocked, place a request in the form {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, and another administrator will consider it. You will need to say what sort of edits you plan to make if unblocked, and you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. JohnCD (talk) 20:51, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
