Hofstadter's Ambigram

Hi Darth Starbo,

Some time ago, I requested that you restore the original artwork for Hofstadter's Rainbow reflection ambigram (used on the ambigram page). You also put a GFDL license on it, which you can't since it's a derivative work of art that was not released under that license. I have fixed the latter problem, but I would appreciate it if you would fix the former problem.

You have taken an original and well-known piece of art by a prominent person and you have created your own version, which even includes your rendering of the original artist's name. This is inappropriate and, in doing so, you ignored comments in the file's page that explained why this should never be done.

You did not responded to my comment of 13 May -- would you do the same thing with a line drawing by Picasso? Your argument that it allows resizing and is higher quality applies equally well to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stravinsky_picasso.png. Should we go through and start making SVGs of all line drawings on Wikipedia? Obviously not -- rather than improving them, it destroys them. You may think that it does not matter, but the artist himself is on the record as saying that rendering artwork like this on a computer ruins it. Note that I disagree with that -- I render final versions of my own ambigrams on a computer, but it doesn't matter if you or I agree or disagree -- what matters is the artist's perspective, and I would bet Picasso would feel the same way.

If you don't revert it, I will, but I would much rather you do it. And I have to admit, I don't know how to get the original back except by going to the Wayback Machine. Thanks.

Possibly unfree File:Chart-zeus-infected-countries.jpg

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Chart-zeus-infected-countries.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. --HamburgerRadio (talk) 17:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

File:MyStatusBlank.gif missing description details

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:MyStatusBlank.gif is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you.  ono  15:52, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:RelevantRadio.svg

Thank you for uploading File:RelevantRadio.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Image tagging for File:VandalSprayCan.png

Thanks for uploading File:VandalSprayCan.png. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as WikiVandal stuff, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A couple of concerns

Hello, Darth Stabro. You seem to be doing a very useful job here, particularly with flagging unsuitable articles for deletion. Thanks. However, I have two concerns about your editing. Firstly, what is the purpose of such pages as User:Darth Stabro/VandalPage? I previously invited you on my talk page to explain why it wasn't vandalism, or why it should be allowed to exist on Wikipedia, and you declined to do so. Secondly, I see that on your user page you have written "Have you ever made a page only to have it deleted? But you think it should stay? I'll host it on my namespace." User space is not to be used as a way of evading deletion of pages from elsewhere, so please remove this message. JamesBWatson (talk) 09:26, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I see you've removed the note from your user page. Thanks. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Dear Stabro, Can you please have a look at Abu-l-Qasim Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Qasi and see if your tags are still necessary? Thanks, S711 (talk) 14:09, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

mmmmm S711 (talk) 19:13, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Wikivandal.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

Your sig

Hi Darth Stabro,

Someone is probably going to come along soon and tell you this more forcefully, but you should know that per WP:SIG#Images, you can't include images in your signature. You might want to remove them before someone makes an issue out of it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 16:56, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Oops, just noticed: You also can't transclude a signature page: WP:SIG#NT. Sorry. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:26, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
You should definitely remove the images. I came here just now to say the same thing, and I had assumed at first that the policy had changed, but from what I can see, it hasn't.Soap 17:34, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Acapella (band)

I've removed your speedy from this article, because it clearly passes WP:MUSIC - at least in theory. It is, however, a pretty blatant hoax, and has been tagged as such. Ironholds (talk) 18:17, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Your RfA

I'm sorry to have to tell you that I've just closed Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Darth Stabro per WP:NOTNOW as it was clear it was unfortunately not going to succeed. The sentiment seemed to be that you should give it some more time (I would suggest at least 6 months) and gain more experience before trying again. While I'm here, your signature is against policy. WP:SIG expressly forbids the use of images or the transclusion of signatures. Let me know if I can be of assistance. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:52, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Interpol.svg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Interpol.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. File permission problem with File:Ananda-pratik.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Ananda-pratik.svg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (Talk) 15:47, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of MyBB

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on MyBB, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Bongomatic 12:39, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of MyBB for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article MyBB is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MyBB (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Bongomatic 06:39, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 07:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:MyBB Mascot Bolt.png

Thanks for uploading File:MyBB Mascot Bolt.png.

Disambiguation link notification for September 6

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A tag has been placed on File:CalendarIcon.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:10, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
