File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Allen Speech StplesCtrAlGore.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Allen Speech StplesCtrAlGore.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Safiel (talk) 21:52, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Allen Speech StplesCtrAlGore.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Information icon Hello, Davidbmuller. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Allen Hershkowitz, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Rentier (talk) 19:17, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

COI[edit]

Hello, I am trying to resolve the issues on Allen Hershkowitz's wikipedia page related to my edits. I am not a well-versed used of Wikipedia, but I absolutely wish to adhere to all guidelines. I am more than willing to disclose the nature of my relationship to Mr. Hershkowitz, and to 'suggest edits' if need be as a result of my past professional relationship with him. I have not knowingly entered any false and/or unverifiable information in my edits; he asked for my help in updating his page with new information because he did not know how to accomplish that otherwise. Any errors I made were a result of a lack of proficiency in using wikipedia properly. I greatly appreciate and respect wikipedia's rules, so I will also greatly appreciate your help in resolving these issues with my contributions to this page and therefore removing the alerts currently at the top of the page.

Thanks very much, David MullerDavidbmuller (talk) 18:53, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. This didn't require admin help, but since I am here anyway I declared conflict of interest for you. The community is bound to assume good faith but your transparency is much appreciated. If you would like to make changes to Allen Hershkowitz, please go to Talk:Allen Hershkowitz and follow the instructions here. Alex ShihTalk 04:22, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the disclosure. I'm asking Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard to have a look at prior and extensive edits on the article. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:10, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • David would you please clarify if you are being paid, or expect to be paid, for your work for Hershkowitz? Please be aware that you must disclose this, if it is the case, per the Wikipedia policy, WP:PAID. You can reply here, just below this. Thanks Jytdog (talk) 17:44, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, I am not being paid. I formerly worked with Dr. Hershkowitz (until May 2016) and I want to update his page to include more details on his career, because I admire his real world accomplishments and want that information to be available to the public. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.21.137 (talk) 18:12, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for answering. So your COI is just plain old COI by association. Thanks for clarifying. I have replied to your content proposal on the talk page, and have worked over the article some. Jytdog (talk) 19:43, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've went over the article and addressed the previous concerns. If you would like to suggest any content to be restored, or if you have any questions/suggestions, please {{request edit}} on the talk page. Here are some useful read from what I have found, please also take a look.

MOS:DOCTOR: Academic and professional titles (such as "Doctor" or "Professor") should not be used.

Regards, Alex ShihTalk 01:46, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello David, File:Allen Hershkowitz Headshot.jpg needs to have a copyright tag before you can use it in the article, or it will be automatically removed anyways. Alex ShihTalk 17:17, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the request edit to the article talk page. I am afraid majority of the these information will probably not be accepted based on the reason I have stated above. Alex ShihTalk 07:47, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File at the commons[edit]

The image you uploaded at the commons has been tagged for not having appropriate copyright release. There are instructions there about what you should do. (namely, you should have the photographer email the address given in the notice, and provide the release) Jytdog (talk) 22:35, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying--the author should be sending in his release directly to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org very soon.

SOCKing[edit]

Please stop directly editing the Hershkowitz article while logged out. Please stop directly editing it at all. Read WP:SOCK. If you continue to do that you will end up indefinitely blocked. Jytdog (talk) 19:15, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I didn't realize I wasn't logged in when I started editing, but thought it would automatically be attributed to me when I submitted. This was in no way "socking"--my edits are intended to be transparent, and are 100% accurate. Again, I am not well-versed on Wikipedia editing, and find it very confusing and non-user-friendly as someone who is not a coder. But you're saying I should propose any and all future changes in the talk page rather than directly editing? Is this due to my past association with Hershkowitz?
Above you agreed to follow the COI guideline. If you read the COI guideline, it explains that you should not edit directly, but should only propose content on the talk page. if there is something unclear about that, please let me know and I can explain. Jytdog (talk) 19:58, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
user replied below, here that they understand the ground rules. Jytdog (talk) 22:53, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New edit at Hershkowitz[edit]

About this, some logistical issues:

  • Please do not change content on a Talk page that has already been responded to. Never do that. Please read WP:TPG
  • Please post requests in new sections.
  • Please sign your posts.

About the content you proposed:

  • The content about Hershkowitz was completely unsupported by the 2 sources cited. Please do not waste our time with proposals that are not supported by high quality, independent sourcing.
  • The language you used there, "with material and logistical support from the NRDC" is rather putrid PR language. That is not encyclopedic content meant to teach anybody anything.
  • I noted above that every time you edit, you agree to follow community policies and guidelines - this is the responsibility that comes with your editing privileges.
  • If you continue to propose content advocating for Hershkowtiz that violates our content policies, then your editing privileges will likely be restricted. The mission and policies and guidelines of Wikipedia need to come first, not your advocacy for Hershkowitz. Please keep that in mind. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 19:55, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article is currently inaccurate in saying that the Green Sports Alliance got started by team owners. The founding members were all represented by members of the teams' venue operations groups, and owners were not involved beyond granting approval. It also omits the NRDC's role (Hershkowitz, specifically) in convening the people and contributing foundational funding for the organization to get off the ground. This is what the 'About' section of the Green Sports Alliance's website reads: 'The Green Sports Alliance was conceived and founded by the Seattle Seahawks, Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Storm, Vancouver Canucks and the Natural Resources Defense Council' (http://greensportsalliance.org/about/). Here are a couple of other reputable sources supporting the edit I am requesting: https://www.forbes.com/sites/csr/2011/03/24/the-green-league-csr-hits-pro-sports/#1110d9a51e42; https://www.greenbiz.com/news/2011/07/14/red-sox-chiefs-among-20-pro-teams-joining-green-sports-alliance; http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20110321&content_id=17053284&vkey=pr_sea&fext=.jsp&c_id=sea Davidbmuller (talk) 21:51, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to add the following publications to the list in this article:

Bronx Ecology: Blueprint for a New Environmentalism, published by Island Press in 2002, and reviewed by the New York Times.[1]

"How Garbage Could Meet its Maker", The Atlantic Monthly, June 1993, pp. 108-109. [2]

You did not reply above about your editing directly, and about editing while logged out. We have to get these ground rules worked out so we don't have to keep going over stuff.
I wrote here, about your behavior, in this section and the one above. This is what user talk pages are for. The purpose of this section was to warn you not to waste volunteer editor's time with content proposals that we cannot use, and that serve only to promote your client.
If you want to propose content, please use the article Talk page for that. That is what the article talk page is for.
The use of talk pages generally, is described in the talk page guidelines. Please review them.
Again, please ensure that content that you propose at the article talk page is neutrally worded and supported by independent, reliable sources. If the content contradicts what other reliable sources support, the content you propose needs to deal with that. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 22:07, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I replied, I was still confused about the process. I understand I cannot edit directly on Allen Hershkowitz's page, nor can I edit anywhere while logged out. Duly noted. Davidbmuller (talk) 22:25, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for confirming that you understand that part of the ground rules here. Jytdog (talk) 22:53, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quick note[edit]

You might feel like i am being some kind of Wikipedia Nazi, but we really do want to provide the public with neutral, accepted knowledge.

All kinds of people come to Wikipedia to promote all kinds of things, and the volunteer community tries very hard to apply the policies and guidelines the same way, every where.

So sorry for being a hard ass, but the harder you push to promote Hershkowtiz, the harder of a pushback you will get.

You will save yourself and me a lot of time and angst, if you take the time to understand what kind of proposals are OK, and make them. Jytdog (talk) 00:09, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I understand where you're coming from, but it seems you've come to a false conclusion that I am trying to 'promote' Hershkowitz, and therefore you need 'push back'. I am certainly still learning what kind of proposals are acceptable and what aren't, but I am acting in good faith and trying to make this article accurate, nothing else. You seem to be assuming the opposite. That seems to be contrary to the Wikipedia code as well. Davidbmuller (talk) 16:05, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please indent your posts on talk pages. All your edits about Hershkowitz have been promotional. That may not be your intention, but that is what you are doing. This is exactly what conflict of interest does to people, and why we manage conflict of interest. Jytdog (talk) 03:28, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps the truth of the matter appears to be 'promotional' to you, but I just posted 8 separate sources on Hershkowitz's talk page that corroborate that the NRDC, as well as Vulcan Inc., were responsible for conceiving and convening the original meetings of the Green Sports Alliance. NRDC's Sports Greening Project was led by Hershkowitz. Conflict of interest hasn't 'done' anything to me; I am trying to make the article more accurate. You now seem intent on rejecting any edits I suggest regardless of how well-sourced they are, because you've apparently made up your mind that my intent is to promote. That is not the case. Omitting the role that NRDC and Vulcan Inc. played in creating the Green Sports Alliance, regardless of whether or not you note that Hershkowitz was the NRDC's representative in these meetings, is plainly inaccurate. Please update the article accordingly. Thank you. Davidbmuller (talk) 03:46, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hm. There are facts, and there are how facts are said. Please do not believe you are above the bias that COI creates. Nobody is, really. And while you were writing this huffy note i was doing this. Look at the time stamp on that. Jytdog (talk) 07:02, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Davidbmuller: David, not all the information can be included as I mentioned before, and Jytdog is trying his best to help. I will take another look later too to see what can be incorporated. Alex ShihTalk 07:08, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate both of your assistance in improving this article. Jytdog, my 'huffy' note was in response to a similar tone I got from you in several messages, and an unfair characterization of my intent. At any rate, the article is in better shape now, and I will do my best to follow all protocol in future editing suggestions on any page. Thanks.
