Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Sign your messages with four tildes (~~~~), be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:39, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

UTF-16[edit]

Thank you. I want to edit the UTF-16 convert formula:

U' = yyyyyyyyyyxxxxxxxxxx // U - 0x10000
W1 = 110110yyyyyyyyyy // 0xD800 + yyyyyyyyyy
W2 = 110111xxxxxxxxxx // 0xDC00 + xxxxxxxxxx
to
U ∈ [U+010000, U+10FFFF]
U' = ①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨⑩ ⑪⑫⑬⑭⑮⑯⑰⑱⑲⑳ // U - 0x10000
W₁ = 110110①② ③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨⑩ // 0xD800 + ①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨⑩
W₂ = 110111⑪⑫ ⑬⑭⑮⑯⑰⑱⑲⑳ // 0xDC00 + ⑪⑫⑬⑭⑮⑯⑰⑱⑲⑳

what do you think? Diguage (talk) 13:24, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You would be best going to talk:UTF-16 to put that question, as you are more likely to get a more expert answer there than I can give. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 14:06, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disabling sight-impaired visitors[edit]

Sorry but I had to revert your well-intentioned edit. For the long explanation, see MOS:ACCESS but briefly, Wikipedia prefers to avoid precomposed characters that may disable readers with impaired sight or block blind readers if their screen reader can't handle it sensibly. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 12:39, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK.
I only considered the format and did not take care of this part of the population.
Thank you for the tip. Diguage (talk) 13:43, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was payback time for when I got denounced many moons ago for doing exactly the same thing. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 14:03, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are so funny. Thank you. Diguage (talk) 14:29, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
