August 2008[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is considered undesirable because it splits the page history which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. A-Channel[edit]

Yeah i know i was wondering when A-Channel Becomes "A" on August 10th 2008 if ican use that move tab button you suggested and use teh A(television Network)

The correct title, per Wikipedia naming conventions, will be A (television system). Note that it already exists as a redirect, and the changes will be made on time. Just don't jump the gun by making them in advance, please. Bearcat (talk) 09:12, 1 August 2008

Hey BearCat what do you think of the new (A-News page i just created let me know ok

(Dongwong (talk) 02:49, 8 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I think you need to cool your jets a bit here. You've really jumped the gun a few times with speculative stuff that we had no way to verify, you've cited some weak or inappropriate sources, you've tried moving articles early, you keep wanting to add details and websites we don't actually need (like the new A website address that still just redirects to the same place as the A-Channel website anyway — why in heck would we need that now?), and a few times you've even reverted it when other people cleaned your additions up to proper Wikipedia style and format. Is there a particular reason that you're so obsessed with the A-Channel rebranding to the total exclusion of anything else? Your commitment is admirable and appreciated, and you're more than welcome to keep contributing — but could you just try a bit harder to work with people instead of stepping overtop of them? Bearcat (talk) 03:34, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

did not mean to move articles. i'm obbessed as my aunt works for them and this is a shared computer too so others use this account and have been editing some stuff like referting stuff i do applogize for that

what did you think of about the new A news Page

(Dongwong (talk) 03:39, 8 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

It was a good start. You might want to read up a bit more on how we actually want our articles written and formatted, though — you can find some resources at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page and Wikipedia:Tutorial that might help your experience here go a bit more smoothly. You know, so you don't get frustrated by people repeatedly undoing your work, eh? Bearcat (talk) 03:43, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah Thank you but do you think you can help improve the article with me and stuff even when on August 11th 2008 when A News Debuts it new look ps should i change the logo to refelect it and if i t was possible if we could put something on the artcle which will show the old a new Logo

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:A logo black.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.  Asenine  18:22, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]

Could you please clarify why you want to replace the existing A logo SVG with a JPG? Firstly, Wikipedia actually prefers images to be in SVG format whenever possible, and secondly, the JPG is actually of lesser quality, as it's an oversized image with too much whitespace around it and it artifacts on it (the faint grey line under the A) that aren't actually part of the logo, but are remnants of the website design. Is there a reason we need to use that image instead of the one we already have? Bearcat (talk) 18:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer the question, please. Your changes of the image format are going to continue to be rolled back if you don't explain why they're necessary, and you may even get yourself editblocked. Bearcat (talk) 18:46, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the logo i am uploading looks more like the logo and the picture i'm upladoing is that the way it was designed

but can you keep the logo i'm uploadning and change the foramt to a SVG just the orgianl logo looked more flat

(Dongwong (talk) 18:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The only noticeable differences between the image file we already have and the one you uploaded are the whitespace surrounding it, and a grey line that's part of the website design, not part of the logo. There's no difference in the logo design between the two files. Bearcat (talk) 18:51, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Changing a file's extension to SVG doesn't make the file a SVG. You've got to use a vector image editing program like Inkscape or Illustrator to convert the raster image to a vector image.--Emarsee (TalkContribs)Formerly Pikachu90000 18:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I know more about proper Wikipedia policy and procedure than you, plus I have the power to block editors if they break the rules too often. Again: A's actual logo is the plain A-with-triangles. Everything behind it in the image you're uploading is a design artifact that is not part of the logo itself. Bearcat (talk) 03:00, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it still is a logo they use that in there promos and stuff

(Dongwong (talk) 03:05, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

So's the file we already have. And that file's also downloadable from the very same page you pointed out to Emarsee. So how on earth is your version more "official" than the one we already have, especially considering that the only difference between the two logos is the grey and white markings in the background? Bearcat (talk) 03:08, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well it looks more nicer and it shows the network new bold direction that the plain logo and will enhance the articles to make it stand out more. and it not website background

could we give it a try

(Dongwong (talk) 03:17, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

You may think it looks nicer, but trust me, a lot of other people don't. Frankly, it's messy and blurry and oversized, and looks more like a screenshot of an on-air identification bumper than like an actual computer file that's meant to depict the logo itself. It's pretty clearly supposed to look three-dimensional, but in the context of a single flat image it looks more like the logo on top of a pile of shredded paper. Are you going to propose that we replace the CTV logo with an animated 3D one that shows the red C spinning like a ball, too? Bearcat (talk) 03:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it not messy why do you think CTV would post it then it is a computer file that they sue in press releases

and you can make it smaller like what i did

no but this one is better i know some people on here you agree with me

(Dongwong (talk) 03:44, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

look at A News it looks awesome and tha tthere offical logo

may i show you what i mean if i make it smaller

the one you consdier messy and sure iover sized but i can make it smaller

and it not blurry download it your self

The only reason why the A News logo is there is because there is no alternative to the one with the background, if someone ever finds an A News logo without the background, then that will be the title image. As far as I'm aware, only the A with triangles is the official logo, and your point about the A logo with the special effects is the official logo isin't. When the ID for A finishes, it always finishes with the A with triangles logo, not the A logo with special effects. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 04:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And by that I didn't mean upload a new degraded logo with a lot of white space. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 04:39, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You do realize that erasing the very portion of the image on which you were basing your whole argument in the first place means there's even less reason to use your version instead of the one we already have, don't you? Bearcat (talk) 04:43, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i did not erase it dont say something that i didn't

Then how exactly did you manage to upload a version of the image which kept the size and proportions the same, but didn't have the 3D patterns in the background? Bearcat (talk) 04:52, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

from "A" Facebook Group and there website

(Dongwong (talk) 04:55, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Regardless of who created it, your whole case for using your version of the logo instead of the one we already have was the patterns in the background. So why would you bother to upload a version that doesn't have them? All that accomplished was to be even more redundant with the image we already have, except smaller and with more whitespace around it. So what was the point? Bearcat (talk) 05:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC

that log that had the pattern was way better and gave more depth to the article as you know "A" is a more a Dynamic TV System now and that why CTV uploaded it because it was the updated version of the First projected log and the A News Logo is the Offical Logo it has colors behind it here is the link from CTV http://www.ctvmedia.ca/Atv/logos/page.asp?subcat=Logo

(Dongwong (talk) 05:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

You're not answering my question. Let me try again: if the logo that has the effects is better, then why did you replace it with a new version that didn't have the effects? Bearcat (talk) 05:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That CTVgm site is not accessible to the public as it requires a password, I'll repeat again, the only reason why the A News screen cap is there instead of a A News logo with out the effects is that there is no alternative, which isin't the case with A. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 05:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

)

i jsut wanted to see if the bigger image of the one that did not have the effects as it had more black coloring and the "A" was a bit bigger than the orginal one that on here currently on here.

and no offence Emarsee but this conversation is between me and bearcat

(Dongwong (talk) 05:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Not really, if I for example put [[Image:A logo.svg|5000px]], it will be enlarged to 5000px without degrading, but that is not the case with your JPG's and GIF's. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 05:19, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

can you shrink it . considering on there website they consider it official Logo

(Dongwong (talk) 05:25, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Emarsee is allowed to participate in this discussion. And you're still missing the point that the alternate images you were uploading were not a different logo from the one we already have — they were different file formats and different sizes, but the same logo. Bearcat (talk) 05:27, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i've tried changin the format for the one that has teh effects to a SVG Format which Wiki uses correct i was hoping you could maybe covert it so it does not degrade. All i want to do is to show people that "A" is more dynamic and more mature. instead of seeing a plain old White Background Logo

i just would like to use CTV Updated Version of the Logo could we post it somwhere eles on the Article showing there Second Logo but keep the Main PLain one up where it is. but post the one with the effects somewhere on the article and have some wrting under it saying this logo is the alternative to the main logo above

let me know

(Dongwong (talk) 05:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

(Dongwong (talk) 05:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

A does not have a secondary logo, AFAIK, the only Canadian network/systems that have secondary logos are the E! stations who use their own logo for news programmings and the E! logo for non-news programming. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 05:36, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a different logo, just a different background. It's also not convertible into SVG format, because it's not a scalable vector image. Bearcat (talk) 05:39, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well yeah i have to agree ti jstu a different background tho it part of the "A" Arternate Background they use it on air

but can we still use it on the article. the new background with the offical "A" Logo part of there alternative Logo anyways why would it say on that website "A" Logo

i'm saying we could stick is somewhere on the article and it wont be the main image anyways

(Dongwong (talk) 05:40, 12 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The Big Picture[edit]

Please note that an AFD consensus to delete or merge an article is final. You cannot keep recreating the same article over and over again. And it doesn't matter what title you use, either. Bearcat (talk) 18:22, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you don't get to decide whether there's any harm in keeping the article or not. Once AFD has weighed in, their decision is final. If you feel really strongly about it, you have the option of going to deletion review to see if you can build a consensus to overturn the AFD result, but you cannot simply ignore the AFD result and recreate the same article. Just for the record, DRV isn't going to agree with you if your entire case is based on "it's not harming anything"; what you need to show is that the article can meet Wikipedia's requirements around notability and reliable sources. And please note that you can be editblocked if you recreate the article again. Bearcat (talk) 21:18, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

those were reliable sources from the websites

(Dongwong (talk) 05:21, 24 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

No, they weren't. Reliable sources have to be independent of the company in question. You've had this explained to you before. Bearcat (talk) 15:05, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no wonder why the media dont like using wiki it not a good website

They don't like it because our policies prevent them from inserting their standard press release mush as promotional content, not because it's an inherently bad site. Our goal here is to be a reliable, independent and neutral reference site, not an aggregation of press releases. Bearcat (talk) 15:05, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No fair use rational on Image:A-Channel News banner.jpg[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:A-Channel News banner.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:A-Channel News banner.jpg is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:A-Channel News banner.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of Image:A News Logo ID.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:A News Logo ID.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:A News Logo ID.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. what is wrong with the News Presentations

As has been explained to you before, Wikipedia is subject to copyright laws. We cannot upload fair use images just for the sake of having a gallery of past visual presentations unless the article contains critical commentary about the images. Bearcat (talk) 21:38, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder[edit]

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Would you please familiarize yourself with actual Wikipedia policy, and then work with other editors to build consensus for your desired edits rather than simply attempting to impose them? A significant number of your edits continue to be pointless, unnecessary or even inappropriate, and constantly having to clean up after you is getting tiresome. As I told you:

You have been temporarily blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

You simply cannot post copyrighted material from other sites. Please read some of the tutorial pages before your block lifts. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:43, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i'm trying to make this page nto by copy right

(Dongwong (talk) 04:44, 12 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I'm not sure what you're telling me, but I need to remind you that while it's OK to use that site as a reference, the article must be written in your own words. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:46, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

oh i did not know that someone told me you can copy and paste

can you help me out create that pagei did not mean to copyright

but can you help me write out some of that article in stead of deleting it

My friend, you've had a series of warnings on this page regarding copyright; I had to delete three of those violations. Tell you what: I'll unblock you, but please do two things: Write the article in your own words and make it more than just a single sentence. Give me a moment and you should be good to go soon. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, give it a try. I've unblocked you under WP:AGF. Good luck. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC

Sure. Excellent idea, in fact. I'll rewrite it in my own words so that you can see how it's supposed to be done. Just give me a few minutes. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Dongwong (talk) 05:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

And we're all set. We now have a perfectly serviceable stub for what seems to be a notable restaurant chain. Hope this helps! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:26, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much i wanto upload the logo

(Dongwong (talk) 05:34, 12 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

But The Article looks great thanks for helping

Anytime. I did unblock you and the log says you're unblocked. It sometimes takes a bit of time for the system to catch up. It's a bug which has been a pain in the neck for years. You should be able to edit again within the hour if not sooner. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 05:46, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Morning[edit]

The logo that you put up is not the logo on the A Morning London web page that you stated that it came from. I explained that on the talk page. You have since changed the location that it came from to another site (the correct one) which is a promotion page for A Morning. The correct logo to use may be under dispute but that is no reason to call me an ass wipe in an edit summary. I am going to initiate a discussion about the correct logo to use on the talk page, you are welcome to discuss it civilly and without calling people names.--kelapstick (talk) 22:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at it further one of the pages is for the show from London the other is from Barrie.--kelapstick (talk) 23:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your tone[edit]

Don't call people "ass wipe" in edit summaries, as you can be edit blocked for violating WP:CIVIL. (And don't even try telling me to "shut the fuck up" like you did the last time I posted to your talk page, either, because that would violate WP:CIVIL too.) Wikipedia users are expected to be polite with one another, not to swear at each other just because they disagree. Bearcat (talk) 23:20, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And while we're at it, if you want to replace the logo on A Morning with a new file, you need to provide a new file that has a solid white background, not a grey-to-white gradient, and that doesn't have a big block of dead space between the logo and the bottom of the file. The old image stays as is until a better-quality version of the new one can be uploaded, and that's final. Bearcat (talk) 23:45, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves[edit]

If you'd like to move the page to another title, you can propose a move for discussion through the proper processes for doing so. You cannot arbitrarily dictate a title that is not in keeping with Wikipedia's naming conventions. Bearcat (talk) 01:13, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I concur with Bearcat. Moving a page without discussion after other users have already told you that they oppose a page move is pointless: they will just move it back. If you really believe a page should be moved, you have to convince other editors on the talk page of your proposal first. Otherwise, you are just wasting your time and everybody else's. Worse, it will lead to you being blocked from editing. Ground Zero | t 20:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube[edit]

Wikipedia has an absolute rule against adding YouTube or Facebook links to articles. It's not important or necessary that a YouTube link be present in the article at all — they are never acceptable external links on here. It's just spam, pure and simple, and fails the criterion — which has been pointed out to you over and over and over and over again — that article sources need to be independent of the topic.

I know you seem to believe that A's marketing department should have total control over its related Wikipedia articles, but that's not Wikipedia's purpose or practice. Our job is to be a neutral and objective source, not A's own private press release database. Bearcat (talk) 05:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
