Baltimore Ravens[edit]

I saw you reverted the extraneous text Tony Spike dumped into the lead of Baltimore Ravens. Nice job. You must not have noticed that he also changed the wikilink from AFC to NFC for some inexplicable reason. Can you revert that, too? Thanks. --76.189.111.199 (talk) 04:22, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SH 82 GA thanks[edit]

Thank you for passing that article. I appreciate the recognition; I hope that eventually I can make it the first Colorado surface road to get to FA.

This means a lot, incidentally, because it's the first road article I've gotten to GA largely all by myself (and, ironically, it's about a road over 2,000 miles away from where I live, one that I only rode on a few times during a short visit two and a half years ago). Daniel Case (talk) 03:25, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was advised to take it to ACR before FAC, and I'll be doing that. However, not right away ... I find the intensity of the process of improving an article such that, having gone through one step in the process, I need to take a break before I come back to it.

Besides, I have sort of an overall plan on this. Two months ago I got Independence Pass to GA. I have also emailed the link to the head of the Independence Pass Foundation for some external peer review (which might also be a good idea for the SH 82 article if I could find someone interested at CODOT), and he had some things I want to incorporate into that article before taking it to FAC.

The idea is, if I can get both articles to FAC, I think it would be possible to propose a Main Page blurb that links to both articles, and preferably have it run on July 4 (since that's how the pass got its name). It would be a first. Hopefully it could happen this year, but if not, I think it will work next year. Daniel Case (talk) 04:15, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My idea is that it would be a single blurb, with both articles linked and bolded, but just the one picture of the pass (which of course shows the road as well). Not the way we did it on Election Day 2008. Daniel Case (talk) 04:27, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So do I. For now we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Before the next step on SH 82 (which is to say, after I've taken time to work on other articles of interest (and hoping things like the SPI that I was involved in for most of this week don't take up too much of my time), I want to make sure all the redlinks are blue (and, if possible, that they link to decent articles that are at least better than stubs). Disambiguation link notification for February 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Former state routes in Pennsylvania, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Delorme (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Reinsertion of Irrelevant Source Citation - Route 24[edit]

You undid a revision that I made on Feb 12 for Route 24 (New Jersey) regarding one citation source for 2 statements in the article.

I have opened up a Talk Page, Reinsertion of Irrelevant Source Citation.

It addresses that citation source for one of the article statements.

I left in the citation source for the second article statement.

Please go to the Talk Page and indicate:

1. You agree with my proposed change for the cited article statement; or

2. Why The Record citation, which makes NO mention of any of the specific details for the future extension in the article and could NOT forecast in 1992 that the plans were scrapped in 1993, should be reinserted when the NJ 24 Freeway website that I propose to add fully covers the referenced statement.

Thanks. I look forward to working with you.Wondering55 (talk) 02:29, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am waiting for you to respond to Talk page for "Reinsertion of Irrelevant Source Citation" for New Jersey Route 24 for you to address why irrelevant Record article should be cited rather than an alternate relevant/correct cited source. If you now agree with my reasons, which are straight forward and based on the facts, for making the original changes, please confirm that on the Talk page. No one else has objected to the changes that I want to make. Thanks for your assistance.Wondering55 (talk) 21:46, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would appreciate if you would respond to Reinsertion of Irrelevant Source Citation and confirm if you agree or if there is a problem with replacing 1 of 2 citations from a Record article, which DOES NOT provide required details for the referenced statement, with a cited source that DOES provide required details. No one else indicated any problems with this source replacement. If I don't hear back from you, I will assume you have no concerns about the source replacement. Thanks for your consideration. I would look forward to working with you.Wondering55 (talk) 14:09, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Rosa Mall[edit]

Just wanted to let you know that the ‪Santa Rosa Mall‬ article, which you gave a cleanup job last year, was also a hijacking. It was originally a stub about a mall in Florida, but an IP overwrote it in 2011 to be about a mall in Puerto Rico. I could barely find any info on the Puerto Rico mall, so I reverted it to be about the Florida mall and added some sources. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:07, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's best not to move the article on the Florida one until after the Puerto Rico one has a page. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:29, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm working on the PR article right now. Dough4872 21:31, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not much to it, but it's a start. I added what little I could find. Don't forget to clean up your links. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:46, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would suggest properly formatting the references. Dough4872 01:12, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GW Parkway[edit]

I am a frequent traveler to the DC area, and can verify that the NPS logo is signed at almost all instances where there are ramps to the GW Parkway. See here as an example. So for now I'm going to revert your change on the Capital Beltway article, but I thought I'd let you know that I believe the shield should stay. -- c16sh (talk to me) 20:08, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We typically do not include the NPS logo for roads that are maintained by the NPS. If you feel we should do this for road articles, bring this up at WT:USRD. Dough4872 23:24, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi; I've put a fair amount of effort into copyediting this article as a potential future FAC (whose criteria mandates that an article's prose be "engaging, even brilliant, and of a professional standard"), but Imzadi1979 is undoing my edits. Therefore, I'm removing it from the requests list and archiving it. Good luck with FA and all the best, Miniapolis 15:24, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Imzadi1979 did not undo your edit, only the parts that added nothing to the article, like the alt text, which isn't an FA requirement anymore, the incorrect switching of capitalized words to lowercase, random edits to the citation template that don't even show up in the article, and all but undoing things Dough4872 was asked to fix in two A-Class Reviews. He did nothing wrong, and you should reinstate this on the GOCE requests list for an editor more willing to copyedit the article correctly. TCN7JM 16:33, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There's an implicit insult in the original comments by Miniapolis above that I'll ignore other than to say that I've successfully nominated 15 Featured Articles of my own over the last five years. Turning to the specifics of this article's copy edits, the things I switched are minor, but important details.
  • As as I was taught in school, when two or more proper names share a common word at the end of their names, like in "Quemahoning Tunnel" and "Negro Mountain Tunnel", then the combination has "tunnels" in lower case at the end of "Quemahoning and Negro Mountain tunnels".
  • Titles in front of names are supposed to be capitalized as well, as our MOS makes clear. "President Clinton" but "the president".
  • We should follow the sources on certain formatting, like repeating "Northeast Extension" (a proper name) in caps and keeping true to capitalization on nicknames, as they were used at the time.
So please continue, but I should hope that you're aware that this is a wiki, we are supposed to collaborate, and no one person is the final arbiter of "engaging, even brilliant, and of a professional standard" when minor issues like capitalization are actually changed to be wrong. Imzadi 1979  01:39, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm familiar with collaboration, but what makes me realize that we're not on the same page is the removal of alt text from the images; FA requirement or no, it's useful to users with screen readers and therefore beneficial to the 'pedia. See my comments at WP:GOCE/REQ#Pennsylvania Turnpike. Miniapolis 02:21, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't touch the alt text though, and that's something I normally add to articles when I'm in the ACR or FAC stages of development. (I've been known to add it for articles I've prepped for GAN, but it's not part of my normal routine for that stage.) Imzadi 1979  02:45, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Why are you so hasty in proposing to delete a brand new article? You could have asked me about it. Seems harsh. --B2C 18:02, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Really? You're not even going to respond? Now you've gone beyond harsh. Luckily, I'm an experienced editor, so I only find this annoying. But if you treated a less experienced editor like this, your behavior would likely drive them away from Wikipedia. Probably not what we should be doing these days. --B2C 23:40, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) If you read the orange box at the top of this page, it says Dough is away for the weekend and won't be back until Monday at the earliest. –Fredddie 01:17, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I did not notice that. However, the vacation notice was added 10 hours after I created this section. During that 10-hour period Dough made about 20 edits, none of which even acknowledged my question, here or at the Afd page he created, much less answered it.

Anyway, absent a blatant BLP violation or something like that, what reason that benefits Wikipedia could anyone possibly have for formally nominating a brand new article for deletion without first trying to touch base with the creator? --B2C 17:28, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See also Section C at WP:BEFORE:

C. Consider whether the article could be improved rather than deleted
  1. If the article can be fixed through normal editing, then it is not a candidate for AfD.
  2. If the article was recently created, please consider allowing the contributors more time to develop the article.
  3. If an article has issues try first raising your concerns on the article's talk page, with the main contributors, or an associated WikiProject, and/or adding a cleanup tag, such as {{notability}}, {{hoax}}, {{original research}}, or {{advert}}; this ensures readers are aware of the problem and may act to remedy it.
Dough4872 (talk · contribs) did none of this. Since the main complaint was notability, he was supposed to search for additional sources prior to nomination as well, per section D of WP:BEFORE. I doubt that was done. These checks and alternatives are very important, and the blatant disregard of them demonstrated here is very concerning.

My main concern is that the errors are acknowledged and a pledge is made to not repeat them with others. We don't need this kind of unnecessary behavior that discourages productive editors. --B2C 17:42, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove the category Category:U.S. Route 19 from the page? Its "History" section says that it was swapped with US 19. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 00:57, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted. Dough4872 01:07, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but why was it removed? If that is not accurate information in the "History" section, then that should be removed or re-worded. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 01:15, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I had removed it because I thought that the route was only tangentially related to US 19. Dough4872 01:17, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hey there. Just curious, what tool do you use to insert remarks like these? Regards, Rehman 04:06, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Filemover on Commons. It is a permission that can be requested. Dough4872 00:10, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am an admin there. How do you automatically generate that edit summary here at enwiki? Rehman 15:32, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
When I moved the image on Commons, I renamed the image on all the wikis that it is on. The tool automatically generates the edit summaries that you see. Dough4872 00:34, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... For some reason that doesn't work for me. I'll try and figure it out. Thanks anyways. Rehman 15:25, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you trim the blurb? They shouldn't be three paragraphs of text as exact copies of the lead; rather they should be 200–300 words, tops. Imzadi 1979  09:50, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of road sign graphics[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you create road signs and I was wondering if I could request a few, which are similar to ones you've already done. Specifically, they would be elongated circles with the following numbers: 1398, 2267, 2269, and 2863. I'm involved in a backlog reduction for articles with missing images and these missing elongated circles make the following pages show up in the backlog: Kentucky Route 1399, Kentucky Route 2268, and Kentucky Route 2862. Please let me know if you can help.  Thanks - tucoxn\talk 00:32, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Done I got them in about 5 minutes. Imzadi 1979  01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. We're getting into the "L" section of the backlog and we're about to start dealing with lists of roads. I hope you won't mind fielding some other similar requests! - tucoxn\talk 01:42, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can make any missing shields, just let me know. Dough4872 01:44, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm working on articles with missing images as well and I've been very slowly making the missing shields when I've needed - so it will be really great to have someone more proficient at doing them to help :) — KylieTastic (talk) 14:55, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Plenty more List of highways numbered... with missing shields but didn't want to depress you with a huge list - but any help you can give will be much appreciated - Cheers — KylieTastic (talk) 14:55, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For future reference you can request shields at WP:USRD/S/R so other shield makers can easily see your request too. Dough4872 01:52, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Tennessee shield has already been made. I can't do the Texas or Sonora shields as I do not have the proper fonts. As for the Minnesota shield, I do not have enough historical data to determine what kind of shield is needed. Again, requesting the shields at WP:USRD/S/R will allow a wider pool of shield creators who may have the resources who can make the shield. Dough4872 01:55, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dough4872 and Imzadi1979: Thank you very much for your help! I'll be sure to post these requests at WP:USRD/S/R in the future. It looks like you both monitor that page as well. Thanks again! - tucoxn\talk 02:51, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers for the help and thanks for the heads up on WP:USRD/S/R KylieTastic (talk) 09:34, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TN State Route 66 junction list[edit]

Dough4872 On Tennessee State Route 94 Half is Primary i have traveled the highway i should know, The Secondary section goes fromi TN 70 to the former Pressmens Home and the Primary section goes from TN-66 to Pressmens home that is where the Shields change it should be a Primary Shield Go to Google Maps and Search Rogersville TN and go on the north along 66 to 94 and at the intersection go on street view and you will see that half is Primary. --ACase0000 (talk) 06:53, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to Tennessee's official highway map TN 94 is a secondary route its entire length. It appears though it is signed with both primary and secondary shields according to Google Street View. Dough4872 00:29, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That street view picture is a few years old so TDOT could have removed the primary signs, so i think it should be left the way it is. --ACase0000 (talk) 05:44, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dough, can you revert your changes related to MD 787? I know the HLR says the highway was decommissioned in 2012, but the route is still signed. I am not sure if the decommissioning took effect in 2012, if it will happen when the financial transaction from the state to the city to rebuild the road occurs/occurred, or if it will happen when construction is complete. Usually I would go by the HLR, but this route is very local to me so I want to review my local resources (mainly city newsletters) before we change anything.  V 00:00, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted the changes for now pending future investigations. However, I should note that MD 787 could have been decommissioned last year and that the state and the city of Takoma Park may have not bothered to remove the shields. Dough4872 01:52, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SR 290[edit]

is now a county road: http://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=474.msg113266#msg113266 --NE2 16:44, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Former routes still go into article browses. Also, do you think you can update the FL 290 article? Dough4872 16:46, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you aware of how many former state roads there are in Florida? The majority were not in the browses; I simply removed the few that were. --NE2 17:48, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
