A tag has been placed on User:Dr William M Brown, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 331dot (talk) 16:29, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • 331dot, for what it's worth, I don't think G11 applies. This wasn't advertising. It may have been a copyvio, maybe. Dr. Brown--if indeed you are Dr. Brown, of course!--welcome aboard. Drmies (talk) 16:41, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Drmies I accept that judgement, but it seemed to be to be a social-media type profile written by someone other than Dr. Brown. If that wasn't the intent, I offer my apologies. 331dot (talk) 16:46, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is me Dr Brown. Thank you for welcoming me aboard. I thought I was editing my own wiki user profile page providing information about myself. After the warning I just deleted the information. I did not realise you cannot add information about yourself on your user page. Or maybe I am mistaken again.

I offer my apologies; your page seemed like it was written by someone else. Since it is you, there is no problem. 331dot (talk) 17:03, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have restored the page for you; if you wish to change it, you can do so. I again apologize. 331dot (talk) 17:05, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, no need to apologise. I copied and pasted a previous thing I wrote for an academic web-site. I might revise it more before adding so it is more relevant to the working group. Best wishes, Will

  • And then you can fancy it up in all kinds of neat ways, and add yourself to categories of Wikipedia users, etc. For instance, you can put (copy and paste this code) {{User:Richmond96/Userboxes/Alabama Crimson Tide fan}} on it, which is great. That's called a userbox. We also have fancy ways of organizing userboxes, including those for languages you master, etc. There's a lot of information, possibly too much, on Wikipedia:User pages.

I added two quick categories to your user pages; feel free to remove them if you don't wish to be categorized. If I can help, ping me--you can type {{U|Drmies}} (or {{U|331dot}}! here on your talk page, for instance, in a question (you have to sign it using the four tildes), and we'll come running to your aid. Have a nice day, Drmies (talk) 17:32, 15 April 2016 (UTC)Thank you very much.[reply]

Username[edit]

From the way your user page was worded, I would ask you if you are Dr. Brown; if you are not, you will need to change your username. 331dot (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
