Seeking clarification, collaboration and common ground

I welcome and appreciate your feedback as I continue to make every effort to contribute facts from a NPOV, *not* orignal research, with footnotes, etc. so the content is informative and useful to readers. Going forward, if you find something I contributed is not perfect, I would appreciate it if you would simlpy talk with me about it so we can make it better together instead of immediately deleting all text and throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Saying that listing a site's content categories, which fit within the alloted line space in the chart, is an advertisement is an overstatement. By deleting those facts you are misinforming visitors who may be looking for friends from college, work or the military. I like your suggestion of making it more concise (using school instead of "kindergarten, grade school and high school"). I suggest making it even shorter by changing "Aims to reconnect" to "Reconnects". I'm glad to compromise and update this to read "Reconnects friends from school, college, work and the military." Hopefully you will find this agreeable.

If non-English language sites don't merit articles on Wikipedia, then why are eight other such sites currently featured on the List of social networking websites page?! Examples include: Cyworld (Korean), Connect.ee (Estonia), Grono.net (Polish), Hyves (Netherlands), IRC-Galleria (Finland), LunarStorm (Swedish), Mixi (Japanese) and IWiW (Hungarian). Why did you only delete StayFriends.de and StayFriends.se, but none of these eight other non-English language sites listed on the same page? Perhaps they are there (or should be there, along with StayFriends.de/.se) because many English speaking people come from a variety of countries and including these sites (with their content/language descriptions) is useful to visitors. Either way, the inclusion of international sites should be consistently managed and the StayFriends German and Swedish sites should not be treated differently.

Please do not mischaracterize my comment about escalating this (dispute resolution), as a threat. It is a repsonse to your "my way, or no way" editing which has persisted despite my efforts to communicate and collaborate with you. Given the above context, hopefully you can see that my contributions to Wikipedia have been well intended and open to improvements, as have my efforts to collaborate with you to resolve our disagreements.

So, can we agree to communicate and collaborate instead of delete? I have a great deal of respect for your long-standing contributions to Wikipedia and hope that we can work together to make it better than ever. JohnUpp 01:21, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

collaboration in progress ;-)

Thanks for your reply. Glad we are in agreement to communicate and collaborate…. onward.

The WP list of social networking websites features four that do not have English language as an option (http://www.connect.ee/, http://grono.net/, http://irc-galleria.net/, http://mixi.jp/), and links to their articles. Since StayFriends.de and StayFriends.se are the largest sites for reconnecting with school friends in Germany and Sweden they also deserve their own articles, which I am drafting and will post. Because this is consistent treatment, I trust that you will agree this is reasonable. If you don’t disagree then please let me know so we can collaborate on an agreeable outcome.

Although there is extensive third party/media documentation that Classmates.com “reconnects” members [[1]], “Aims to reconnect” is fine. JohnUpp 20:49, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kylie Minogue page

Hello

I am wondering why you chose to remove all the 'notable songs and albums' from the Kylie page which I added?

PatrickJ83 02:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

I don't believe I violated any neutrality policy on Wiki; I don't know if you do but I post on http://www.sayhey.co.uk, a very active Kylie forum (prob the biggest) and the songs I listed are the songs that not only seem to be fan favorites to me but are landmarks songs in her career.

  • The Loco-Motion: her first, breakthrough hit
  • Confide In Me: Her artistic transition
  • Spinning Around: Her major return to commerical prominence
  • Can't Get You Out of My Head: Her arguably biggest hit ever
  • I Belive In You: Definate fan favorite and musical move forward

Sorry for the lengthy explanation, but I don't think "notable Kylie songs" are in violation of ANY neutrality code: Shouldn't something like that be more applicable to politics than pop songs? Surely nobody would disagree with the songs I listed being some of her most important: look at the songs listed on the Madonna page, those are some of her biggest and most enduring hits.... Getcrunk, I've removed the Pop 100 Airplay position since there was already a position listed for the main Pop 100. FuriousFreddy told me that it's not really necessary to list component charts for charts that aren't the main Hot 100 unless, for some reason, a song didn't appear on the Pop 100 or Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart or whatever but did appear on one of its components. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 02:07, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

??

What are you talking about. I found a source for the move of the Rihanna song. Look on the history page and there's a source. It has a title. Tcatron565

2006 #1 Hits: SOS

The page says SOS (Rescue Me) (Rihanna song). Tcatron565

SOS

SOS Rescue Me is the only way I've ever heard it said. Plus my source isn't another Wikipedia article, it's AOL Music. Don't you ever check the history spot of songs? Tcatron565

Billboard

Well, Billboard isn't always right on music title, but the single cover is a great source. BUT, sometimes the title is shortened on covers. But please, do not change the title of the page. It has been changed too much. Tcatron565

SOS

OK, that makes sense. Tcatron565

Beyonce

Hey, what I had is correct. I am a Beyonce fan and love her music since forever and user think I can't be included. Even though, Beyonce is not a soul singer it still is correct because of her album "Dangerously in Love". I am right. There is no need for Hip Hop. Charmed36

GA spam on featured template

hi, i see that the "good article" spam has been put back in Template:featured despite objections from several users. this seems to be the way the GA project works: boldly putting something into a page that doesnt want it, then claiming consensus is required to *remove* it again (consensus is never required to put it there in the first place).

this is exactly the same behaviour as witnessed on the attempt to create an article space "good article" star, which i & raul654 finally managed to have deleted (a huge effort since they had already spammed a 1000 articles with it), and on the Community Portal where this non-policy wikiproject has pride of place - its apparently far more important than any of the other dozens of collaborations!

they even had the cheek to remove the "non-policy process" template from the top of their project pages claiming they now had "enough support to be policy" - this is despite clear consensus on the talk page that its NOT policy. an attempt to put it back was quickly removed.

i would appreciate any comments on the template's talk page. i'm really fed up with fighting these GA spam battles everywhere, its quite tiring. why do they have to constantly spread their GA spam everywhere? hope you can help! Zzzzz 09:45, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem. I'm sorry to see things didn't work out for you--I still stand by my opinion that I think you'd make a great admin, and everything about userboxes and your signature seems highly irrelevant when it comes to a person's ability to carry out administrative tasks. Try again in another month or so, and I'll be sure to lend my support again (granted you don't do anything to piss me off :-P). P.S. Why do you have section links disabled on your talk page? The vote was close to success. Keep up your good work and you will still have my support. Please do not feel discouraged.--Jusjih 14:22, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
