Welcome[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Gjensendk, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!

I noticed that you removed an automatic bot signature from Greg L's talk page, and didn't replace it with a signature. I'm assuming that the anonymous contribution to that talk page was also by you, but before you signed in. Since you've got an account, it's probably easier to add comments to talk pages while you're signed in, and then all you have to do to to put your signature on the page is type four tildes ~~~~. • Gjensendk, I agree with your comment on my talk page; the resultant juxtaposition of the IPK next to an inch-based ruler is absurd for most the the world. It works perfectly for the U.S. though. I wasn’t thinking globally when I made it and perhaps should have. I’ve got to get beyond my present mindset and realize that the English version of Wikipedia is read by many readers in Europe and elsewhere in the World. The real reason that image has an inch-based ruler is I saved a pile of time by recycling the ruler from a previous “real life” project. Investing the extra time to produce metric legends just for Wikipedia was more than I was willing to donate at that moment. Nevertheless, I still got “into” the picture (time-wise) much more than I bargained for because the scene proved to be really, really difficult to get the lighting just right.

I appreciate that your observation is passed along in good-faith and politely. Others haven’t been quite as understanding. See Talk:Kilogram/ Legend of first picture for a more detailed explanation of why the ruler is in inches. Please note that the tone of that answer was in response to a thoughtless and rather arrogant comment from a user who specializes in French-related articles on the English-language Wikipedia (contribs here); the tone isn’t directed at you. After reading what Enuja wrote above, I (incorrectly) thought you somehow removed the robot from my talk page. I understand now that she was referring to just your removal of the signbot’s signature for you. Anyway, I reverted my talk page to before your post but the above link takes you to a historical version of my talk page where your post appears. Greg L (my talk) 22:53, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
