Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Gloag Foundation", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87". Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. dsprc [talk] 15:53, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Ann Gloag, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you.

Also, please immediately cease editing Ann Gloag or other related articles to avoid any potential abuse. dsprc [talk] 15:56, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 02:23, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am the Director of Operations and Communications for the Gloag Foundation. When I made the edits yesterday, I was unaware I couldn't use the Gloag Foundation username. Ann Gloag is the Founder of The Gloag Foundation and her Wikipedia page has been edited by people who have mounted a campaign against her so I was trying to edit it to reflect facts true to her life. The edits made by the campaigners were brought to my attention by a number of employees and supporters of Ann Gloag's charity. I have never edited Wikipedia before so was unaware of all the processes and will of course now complete the edit summary.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change, although you'll have to choose a different username because User:Boyle is already taken. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:00, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) I would point out that Wikipedia articles are 'warts and all', and information that the subject of an article doesn't like may be found in the article about them. Any dispute about such content which is reliably and independently referenced should be made on the talk page. Unlike in social media or directories, the subject of an article does not control the content. I would advise you to read WP:COI, which, while it does not forbid it, strongly recommends that article subjects or close associates or employees should not edit directly concerning them. Your attention needed at WP:CHU[edit]

Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 18:45, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I tried clicking on this link but couldn't find anything to do with my request. PLEASE HELP. Gloag Foundation (talk) 08:37, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since you hadn't responded in a while, the request was closed and archived. If you want to change it again to "Boyle at ...", put in another request. If you want to usurp Boyle (possible as that account seems to have never edited), go here and follow the instructions. Daniel Case (talk) 17:21, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Gloag1. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Ann Gloag, you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. -- dsprc [talk] 15:54, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
