Previous variable precision format

In case it is of interest, I first remember encountering a truncatable variable precision format in the NAPLPS protocol. It provided a graphics resolution higher than that of a glossy printed page. Coordinates were in fractional form (0.0-0.9999...) with most significant bit first, so when the display's resolution was reached any extra bits could be ignored. -- SEWilco (talk) 04:28, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
