Niagara (shipwreck)

Hello, GLS, and welcome! Nice job on this article. It's hard to believe that you are only 13.

I made a couple of changes to the article, which I explained on the talk page. The errors in the source I deleted are very common, and we should be suspicious of sources which confuse GT, GRT, NT, or NRT with displacement. They often also confuse draft (draught) with depth, which also seems to have happened here.

I notice that sometimes there is an editor, LittleGreenLights that is adding images to articles that you have written. Would you happen to know them? Nthep has been trying to communicate with them on their talk page so that he may help them but they haven't ever responded.

I understand the reason for my block. I created a separate account to upload photos to Wikipedia because I was scared that if I accidentally uploaded a copyrighted photo I would get blocked. I understand that this was wrong. All I was trying to do was improve the articles I added the photos to. I promise that I will not do violation editing anymore.

Unblocked. I'm satisfied with your answers and I will extend trust to you that you won't go down that path again. The Wikipedia community can be very forgiving but repeated behavioral issues are dealt with more sternly. From know on I will reply to messages that are important (the reason why I didn't reply to you is because I was scared). Using the LittleGreenLights, I only uploaded photos, and edited but hardly ever. When I received your message about being blocked, I created the account GreatLalesShips2 (I misspelled the name) to reply to you but it didn't work. Okay, for reviewing admins' benefit, the thread at the top of your talk page was the first time that I asked and the next time that I asked was at my talk page. I next posted twice with this question in this thread on different days. I received this response from you or your father? After seeing that you hadn't replied but had edited, I placed the CU results above which prompted your reply on my talk. That's the timeline.
Are these accounts (GreatLakesShips, LittleGreenLights, GreatLalesShips2, BenderIsGreat1913 and MaritimeWolf) your first Wikimedia accounts? (Also, do you have other) Accounts at the Hungarian Wikipedia? From your userpage, you have high proficiency in that language.
Why didn't you respond to Nthep with the other account, (LittleGreenLights)? He was trying to help you.
The only thing that held me back from giving you a barnstar was the fact that there was an account, (LittleGreenLights), that you wouldn't own as yours. Otherwise, the work looks commendable.

Apologies for a late reply. But you were asking me if I had a Hungarian Wikipedia account. I never created a Hungarian Wikipedia account, but while logged into my English Wikipedia account, I visited the Hungarian site. My username appeared in red on the page, I don't know much about this, so if that means I have an account, I have one. Iris (1866 ship)

Hi GreatLakesShips, Why did you revert my edits? First, the vessel was apparently launched in 1866, so why did you change the category to 1886 ship? Second, the first paragraph recapitulates the title. Third, the launch year is implicit, and should be explicit as it makes it unnecessary to subtract 47 from 1913 to figure it out. Copyright

I noticed that File:Lakeland sinking.jpg has been nominated for deletion. Copyright laws are perhaps the most difficult thing to handle on Wikipedia. With this image, if we can find who took it, where it was published we can find out how to proceed. If it is a Coast Guard photo, it will be free to use. If we can't find the information it is possible that we could upload it here on Wikipedia as a fair use image. See WP:Copyright and Commons:Copyright rules for further details. George Spencer and Amboy

Hi, I've nominated this as {{db-nocontent}}, on the basis that it had no content, but merely an attempt to have a page redirecting to two pages. A title can only redirect to one page - if you tried to redirect it to two, how would it know which to go to?

An article with a title "X and Y" would be appropriate only if there is a single entity (such as a work or a company) with this name (e.g. Jack and Jill or Marks and Spencer), or X and Y are notable as a pair (e.g. Gilbert and Sullivan or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), in which case the article would describe their collaborative careers or whatever. — Smjg (talk) 10:04, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

I asked Parsecboy about the photos and this is whst he said: no, the licenses are not correct. The photos are all US works, so EU copyright law is completely irrelevant. SS Choctaw

Hi,

My name is Dan, and I've been trying to correct some erroneous information in the SS Choctaw article. While I realize that your edits are based on published material, I believe I have better first-hand knowledge of the current state of the wreck than TBNMS does, based on many hours of video and sonar, both remote-operated and diver-operated.

I just looked briefly at the article and noted a number of erroneous changes. I'll read it carefully and post my findings here.

Creating articles

I saw your post at WP:SHIPS. Since you have a lot of experience creating articles, I recommend you skip the AFC process and just create and post them. I usually work on the article in my sandbox, search for the title, create the article by clicking on the redlink, and copy/paste from the sandbox. Usually, within 24 hours somebody will "patrol" the article and add it to the encyclopedia. RobDuch (talk·contribs) 19:12, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.

The list of all Whalebacks is hard to find on the internet, but I found the book Whalebacks by Neel Zoss. That has a list of all of them that I can post if you need me to. What link??

Ahoy there - I have just received a notice (21 Feb 2021) that your article SS Russia has been linked to an article I created long ago HNoMS Axel Thorsen (1810). I cannot see why such a link should exist. Your ship was launched in 1872, my ship was lost in 1872 - but they never met nor did they operate in the same waters.
