Thanks for uploading Image:HickmanHS Crest.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Sorry I'm not.Grey Wanderer | Talk 23:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I just signed up to Wikipedia again (cannot locate my previous username/etc.), and still haven't received my e-mail confirmation. I think it is you who is changing my edits on Ivan's death. I didn't want to necessarily post a public message, but you must also be online, and I am too impatient to wait for my e-mail confirmation, so here goes.

I lived in Laws Hall the year this occurred. (my sophomore year--International House; I was on 2nd floor.) It was a horrifying event, even with the cause... I remember many things about it, including the fact that his mother came to Laws Hall and AP Green Chapel for a memorial service. It was so sad, so unfortunate, and I remember feeling so horrible for his mother--hoping that people were not constantly reminding her of the cause, hoping that people were only supporting her in her loss of a child.

I recently found this website from a link a friend sent me--and was saddened to see Ivan's life and death reduced to one sentence, such as this... I realize that it is a fact, that it is what happened, but I cannot help but feel it is an unfortunate way to remember his life. Again, even with the cause of his death, he was a person, more than the sum of his parts, even this part.

Taking it to the extreme, how many people engage in "alternative" sexual practices, alone or with others, and how many of those people would choose to be remembered by only that? Again, I feel it is unfortunate, and respectfully request that this entry on Ivan be changed to something less sensational. I feel that terming the death accidental, even accidental and self-inflicted is still absolute fact, while also respectful of the dead.

Thank you for your consideration...

Ann Marie

Sorry to repost, but it appeared in another post--I'm sorry for messing this up!

Laws Hall, con.

I'm still thinking about this, but a few brief points:

  • I think you could easily list the death as accidental self-inflicted hanging with an embedded link to the Maneater article; it is clear and truthful (without "censorship") while also not listing the sex act simply for the sake of *sensationalism*, which I feel this does.
  • I never said I found his cause of death offensive or embarassing (it is what it is and I know of at least one other person who has died from the same)--I did say that a person is more than the sum of their parts, in this case, Ivan had much more going on in his life than this one sexual practice... The entry does mention at least two other facts of his life, so I suppose this concern of mine is somewhat moot.
  • While I feel there are several important points about Kyle Masterson's death that differentiate it from Ivan's, I won't comment on Kyle's death as I was not there at the time. However, I feel the entire "notable negative events" section is simply sensationalism. It seems a statement on humanity that we choose to focus on negative events and not positive ones. (Yes, perhaps that observation is over the top, :-) but still...)

I will probably let this go, but I still do not think that demonstrating respect for the privacy of a young man is in anyway censorship, especially when self-inflicted accidental hanging would be absolutely accurate, and easily linked to the Maneater article. To me, the current wording is only to focus a reader on that aspect--not the fact that a young man lost his life. As a "bleeding heart liberal," I would never condone censorship. But as the same, I would encourage sensitivity to a young man's privacy and ultimate memory.

Thanks for the kind words

Thanks for the kind words on the 2007 Missouri Tigers page. I just did my best. It helped I copied the outline from a certain football team's 'roster' and 'statistics' sections and just changed and filled in the details for Mizzou's players. I think the Tigers will beat *that* team Sat. Dec. 1. <g>

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MU Hospital logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MU Hospital logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Deferred with prejudice

Grey Wanderer, I do respect you as a diligent Wikipedia writer/editor. But unfortunately, it is true that our views on articles have often been in opposition. Honestly, short of idiot vandals, I loathe seeing that you've edited an article more than just about anyone. I've looked at your user profile, and I'm amazed at how much we have in common, yet we hate each other's edits.  :) We both tend to be quite adamant about our views. I don't think either of us has been right or wrong about a particular issue, yet somehow your views always seem to be the ones that stick. Maybe I defer too easily out of my desire to avoid edit wars, but it seems a little unfair. I can only ask that you take into account alternate views that are equally correct to your own.—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 05:31, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Capitol Building Information

Hi, sorry if I'm going about this wrong, but I'm new to Wikipedia and I guess I'd just like to know why my content on the Jefferson City Capitol building was removed and what I can do to get it reincluded in the main article. Thanks so much for all your hard work. I hope I'm not doing this wrong.

Oh Jeez, You're Right!

So sorry, Gary! What a bone headed move! I can't believe it! Great catch. Thanks again.
