Adminship?

I saw that you put in a request for a coach at WP:ADCO/RFC, so I wannabekated you to learn more. I liked what I saw, especially the fact that you have a few good articles and experience in content building and in anti-vandalism work (WP:NPP and a little WP:NPP). In short, I don't think you need coaching and I would like to nominate you for adminship. What do you say? Malinaccier (talk) 01:10, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I'll write up a nomination. Are there any aspects of your editing in particular you'd like me to include in it? Malinaccier (talk) 01:23, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I think I summerized my best qualities on the admin coaching page. Other than that, anything I'm particularly proud of is on my user page. Grey Wanderer (Talk) 01:25, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. Don't forget to accept the nomination officially, answer the questions thoroughly and completely, and then to transclude your RfA on WP:RFA. To do this, follow the directions here. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Good luck, Malinaccier (talk) 01:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

←Good answers. Now don't forget to transclude it to the main RFA page when you're ready! :) Malinaccier (talk) 02:59, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Alright, its done. Again, thanks for the support! Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:05, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

Best of luck for your adminship request. Should you get the +sysop, I'm sure you'll do well. :-) Cheers, --Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 05:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC).

And just so you know, several people have left questions for you to answer. Malinaccier (talk) 15:30, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry about the way it went. In a few months (3 or more is what is usually reccomended) I hope that you run again. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Good luck, Malinaccier (talk) 20:06, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
The Resilient Barnstar
For stoically accepting the way your RfA went and learning from it. Good luck, Malinaccier (talk) 20:06, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I may ask you to review some of my editing in a month or so, and I'll try to live up to that barnstar. Grey Wanderer (talk) 02:56, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Talk page

Thanks for the info. I didn't know how to create an archive, but I just checked it out using your page so I will do that in the future. I'm still learning how things work around here, as you are well aware ;) If nothing else I figured all the old comments are accessible via the page history, so it's not like they don't exist anymore Ryan2845 (talk) 18:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

No problem, you seem like your on your way to being a good editor. Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up on that website - I probably should have read up about it first; but at least I saw the content as dodgy anyway! Take care Booglamay (talk) 20:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

No problem, it was easy to miss, I didn't see it until I looked at the url. Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Visit to Missouri

You've encouraged my work on Missouri topics, so I wanted to say finally have seen some stuff in person. Got to visit St. Louis for 10 days for the first time- we went to Cahokia Mounds, Lone Elk Park (didn't see any bison but did see some elk), some of the wine country and KATY trail along 94 (from Washington and Defiance back toward the city), as well as Soulard's Market, several city neighborhoods, Tower Grover Park and the Botanic Gardens (my friends live near the latter two). Went back and forth across the Missouri and Mississippi a few times, which I was fascinated by. They were rising but it was before the floods. It felt quite different compared to the coastal cities which I'm more familiar with - really raised my curiosity about seeing more of the river areas, wine country, historic towns, and Indian mounds, well, everything. --Parkwells (talk) 11:32, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Ha, thats pretty awesome. I love it when wiki inspires real world learning. I spent a couple days my self running around St. Louis and wineries last weekend. Perhaps we could team up and work on getting some Missouri wine related articles to GA and FA status. Grey Wanderer (talk) 03:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Marburg72

As an editor who has had dealings with Marburg72 before, you might be interested in knowing that there is an RfA concerning him at [1]. Please note that I am not suggesting that you take any specific action (and to explain that statement you might want to look at [2] and [3] where he has raised various acccusations of sockpuppetry (I seem to be the puppet) and meatpuppetry. And then there's [4] - COI complaint by another editor because he keeps adding his personal web page to articles. Doug Weller (talk) 11:33, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I've actually been watching this for a while, and you seem to have handled it fairly well. I'm keeping this on my watch list, and if I feel the need to contribute to the discussion down the line, I will. Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:05, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

JOAT collection of Jack Johnson

This collection was released with the artist's input and is respected by him and his fanbase (goggle "jack johnson" and "JOAT" for proof of this, or go to jackjohnson.com where there are entire threads dedicated to this collection). JOAT was the first collection of its kind and it does not make sense why the other articles about other "unofficial" recordings are left and only JOAT is being considered for deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beatnikdaddio (talkcontribs) 20:06, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Kansas City, Missouri

Salut Mr. Wanderer ! Thank you for your comments about my additions. I have added several more to the culture section of Kansas City, Missouri that others may have overlooked. Perhaps, you will find them acceptable. If not, you know what to do. I will take other better photos of Kansas City and post them soon. (I added some in a gallery to Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art already - I was there at the right hour. The deep blue sky was amazing. I also took some of the Liberty Memorial, that look good - I like the Sphinxes.) - - I do not wish to join your project, but thank you for the invitation. (I work on things mostly about France.) Emir34

Hi I am Emir34 and I saw your message after you wrote. The cause I edited Cape Girardeau was I live there and I know about it. For example that Common Pleas Courthouse is actually Downtown. By the way Cape (shortcut of Cape Girardeau) is a little smaller than Columbia. Anyway, thanks for writing me and I will get you 2 more barnstars for your trophy room. That's it and can you get me a barnstar, too? I don't have any and I really want one of those shiny stars. You would be so kind administrator if you got me one. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the barnstar, I'm not an administrator though. Nice work on WikiProject Cape Girardeau, you might try to find some other editors interested in helping you out with the project. Usually a wikiproject has upwards of 5 or 6 editors, so you might search around. Grey Wanderer (talk) 18:18, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Kansas City, Missouri : Habitants célèbres

Salut ! The Fr.Wikipédia article (here) lists famous Kansas Citians (« Habitants célèbres ») at the end. Do you think the English article for Kansas City, Missouri should have this too? - I like it, but I will leave this up to you to decide. - - If you want me to add it, I will. Tchao ! Charvex (talk) 10:38, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

My experences is that the best city articles (all of the FA-class city articles and most of the GA-class ones) have stand alone "List of people from ..." articles that are linked via the see also section near the bottom of the page. I find that best simply because there are probably a thousand wiki biographies about people from Kansas City and it becomes difficult to weed out who and who shouldn't be listed. If you would like to add some or create a section feel free, but if the page is every improved it might always be removed. But then again, you seem to be doing a lot of work there so your probably the authority right now. Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:49, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I will not do it so you (or someone) can create your stand alone "List of people from ..." article. (Me, « the authority » ? Aie, non! I just fill the obvious lacunae for you.) Thank you for your reply. Charvex (talk) 19:11, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Beer category decision

A discussion has been opened on changes that have been made to the existing Beer category system. The changes reverse the decision made by the Project in April 2006. The changes were based on agreement by only two people, and by a discussion that took place outside the Beer Project. There may be some merit in the changes, and to prevent future conflict it is important that there is some discussion of the matter. If you're interested, please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Beer#Brewery_cats. SilkTork *YES! 15:37, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Kansas City Picture

I noticed you changed the picture back in the Kansas City. The old picture that shows downtown Kansas CIty from 169 is better and a more accurate depiction of our skyline than the one that the french editor, Chevex took from northbound 70 highway. We have had the old picture in place for more than 6 months, and I remember how many compliments on that shot I got when I changed it from the old shot. I would appreciate it if you would STOP changing it back until someone supports Chevex on his picture over mine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enorton (talkcontribs) 15:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Thats fair, I'll post on the talk page for people to state their opinions. Grey Wanderer (talk) 18:15, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your message. You did the right thing. Let everyone decide by comparing. (I think User:Enorton is probably angry that I changed his flag image, which was not correct.) Alors,... Wikipédiens are very passionate about their own work! Whatever everyone decides is OK with me. - - - - - By the way, I have taken new photos of almost every skyscaper in Kansas City, also of The Plaza, Truman Sports Complex, and many other places. The weather was very nice and clear with no haze or humidity on the 17 July. I think that the photos are very good and you will be happy with them. I will be posting many of them as replacements for existing photos, only if the new one is superior, of course. If you or anyone else wants to revert back, that is OK with me. (I am not so passionate about these things.) With all best wishes, Charvex (talk) 19:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Washington, MO external link

Hi. I saw you recently removed an external link and did it quickly, so I am assuming you had a reason for doing so. You referenced the external links page, but I wasn't sure what issue you were noting with the link that was added. I know you have a good deal of experience on Wikipedia -- if you'd be so kind as to briefly explain your reasoning, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Washmo (talk) 20:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, you appear to be right. It looked like a case of clear vandalism, several other editors have reverted it in the past. If you add it back try adding a inline citation using<ref></ref> tags. La Plata, Missouri page revisions.

I'm new at this Grey Wanderer, so I'd like to know why you felt the need to remove all the new information I posted to the La Plata, Missouri page on 7/29/08. I find it very irritating to see painstaking time and effort cast aside on someone elses whim. What gives you the right? Are you from La Plata? No. Northeast Missouri? No. I'm not some childish troll getting my jollies screwing with pages. I've been an amature local historian for nearly all my forty-two years on this earth, and as such have vastly much more knowledge of the subject towns than you. As a summer project I've undertaken to update and improve the Wikipedia pages for towns in Adair County Missouri. All information is indeed factual, from reliable sources or my own personal history research (oral interviews, etc.) Much of the La Plata info came courtesy of their city website. The information regarding the La Plata High softball championship came fromthe sports editor of The Kirksville Daily Express. The highway improvements from simply openning my darned eyes. I really think you went overboard with hacking up my additions. I should think the powers that be at Wikipedia should actually want someone with local knowledge involved with the pages. I would appreciate a response to my e-mail: R_Anderson1966@yahoo.com.

R anderson1966 (talk) 22:32, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Much of your prose is a direct copyright violation of this page. I've also emailed you this information. Wikipedia is a community of equal editors, no one has a "right" to edit a page or not. I'm sure you do have much more knowledge of La Plata than I, but a copyright violation has nothing to do with that knowledge. Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:39, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Change/Update a Picture

I think it would be good to update the front page graphic on the Columbia Daily Tribune page. The front page has been redesigned, and it might be appropriate to have a more recent front page displayed. I have a .gif file of a recent front page, but have not yet been autoconfirmed so I can't upload it. I'm quite new and inexperienced with editing Wikipedia, and would appreciate some assistance. Thanks. 66.112.86.189 (talk) 20:31, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I'd be happy to help, did you get the .gif off the internet? If you give me a link to the webpage, I'll upload it. If your the same user as Herk22 (I believe you are) then you should also be able to make five more edits and be auto-confirmed. I'd suggest making small improvements to the Columbia Daily Tribune page. Let me know if you need me to do anything. Thanks. Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:11, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there ... Just letting you know that I placed a request on WP:RFE to expand this article. I would do so myself, but I'm affiliated with the organization and don't want to cause any WP:COI issues (although, I'm pretty sure I could edit neutrally). I was going to post a notice on the discussion page of the St. Louis wikiproject, but it didn't look like that project was particularly active nowadays, so I thought I'd notify you directly. My apologies if this isn't the right place. Dgcopter (talk) 14:20, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll do my best to help, though right now I'm focusing on school and so have very little time to spend on Wikipedia. Other than that don't let your COI stop you from expanding the article. You probably know more about the organization than any other Wikipedian. If myself or any other Wikipedia sees the article as too positive or the like than we of course will edit it, but until then WP:BOLD. Grey Wanderer (talk)

Friendly note regarding talk page messages

Hello. As a recent editor to User talk:Emir34, I wanted to leave a friendly reminder that as per WP:USER, editors may remove messages at will from their own talk pages. While we may prefer that comments be archived instead, policy does not prohibit users -including anonymous editors- from deleting messages from their own talk pages. The only kinds of talk page messages that cannot be removed (as per WP:BLANKING) are declined unblock requests (but only while blocks are still in effect), confirmed sockpuppet notices, or IP header templates (for unregistered editors). These exceptions only exist to keep editors from potentially gaming the system. Thanks, Kralizec! (talk) 12:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh thanks for letting me know. I should have known that.Grey Wanderer (talk) 17:43, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
No worries! It was news to me as well when someone pointed out that WP:VAN had been explicitly updated to reflect this back in early 2006. (How embarrassing!) Now to make up for my earlier transgressions, I try to help other editors avoid the same mistakes I have made. --Kralizec! (talk) 22:56, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Grey Wanderer, FYI you should be aware that what Kralizec! is also trying to prevent folks from restoring lists of warnings during active disputes, by pointing to an essay, rather than a policy or guideline. I strongly disagree with this as have others in the past. So while the user can indeed blank his warnings, other editors can restore them as long as they don't violate actual guidelines/policies in doing so. (Emir34 of course was not only blanking his own talk page comments, but those made on various user pages as well.) Red Harvest (talk) 00:04, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately Red Harvest is incorrect on both accounts. The links I provided above are to a guideline rather than an essay. Additionally as per multiple official wikipedia policies and guidelines, editors who repeatedly restore the talk page messages of others can be -and have been- blocked for harassment and/or 3RR violations. However rather than muddle up Grey Wanderer`s talk page with this, perhaps we should keep the discussion centralized? --Kralizec! (talk) 01:01, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm not incorrect about what you are doing. You can couch it any way you like but you are making an interpretation that is just not there. Yes, I recognize what you are doing in trying to turn your particularly interpretation into the guideline and of how you are abusing the essay format in doing so. I'm not stupid and can see what you are doing. Red Harvest (talk) 17:59, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

What can I do to excel the knob noster high school webpage? What can i add to make this page better, I am a student at the school and really want this page to look good for incoming students, as we have a military base and when students look at our school i want them to get a good impression. Knobbie10 (talk) 22:06, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad you would like to expand the article. If you haven't already, read the Five Pillars of Wikipedia to see what we're all about. Other than that be sure to present a balance and neutral view, don't just mention the positive points. Also be sure to stay away from non-notable and directory like information. See Category:FA-Class school articles and Category:GA-Class school articles for good examples. You might also look at David H. Hickman High School as an example of a comprehensive, but messy article. Expand with sources the history and academic parts of the article. Some pictures in the public domain or taken by yourself would also help. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help or if you have anymore questions. Grey Wanderer (talk) 02:09, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

(Okay, so I went to one of the other schools in the system. Doesn't mean I'm not rooting for 'em, especially now that I'm waaaaaaaaay away from home. Anyway.)

I'm wondering, if you get some time, if you'd take an eye to Missouri (if you haven't already)... I've noticed a lot of IP additions lately, some good, some, maybe not, but hard to tell. Some definitely good faith, but like a ton of stuff added to "Notable Residents"... Anyway, just figured I'd ask another Missourian for some backup. Best, umrguy42 22:53, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
