Kansas City, Kansas census estimates
I have decided to avoid editing demographics for cities in my area until other people decide whether or not someone is going to update a bot to do an automated change. If I made radical changes to the demographics section, then more likely a bot would pass over those articles. - I see the attraction, but I also wouldn't want to leave outdated information up just because it will make it easier to edit later. As it is the third largest city in Kansas I think it deserves some hand attention. Also, I could be wrong, I don't think bots ever updated the population in the lead. While he wasn't a founder or a programmer, because of the experience he gained marketing intellectual property at Warner Bros. Television in their International TV Distribution department, after finishing at Mizzou, Stephen Monaco had the business expertise and marketing savvy to help drive Datastorm's success and make ProComm a global brand. Monaco and Bruce Barkelew were best friends during college, and Bruce knew he needed someone with business knowledge to get Datastorm off the ground, since he and Tom Smith were computer science majors and weren't business people, per se. Monaco's pricing and marketing positioning strategies are utilized as examples in the Instructor's Resource Manual for Kotler's graduate-level college text book, "Marketing Management - 11th Edition.”
Those of us who worked at Datastorm in Columbia, Missouri know that not mentioning Stephen Monaco with Datastorm Technologies is a disservice to the general Wikipedia using public, as he was an owner and responsible for getting ProComm translated into 11 languages and setting up the global distribution apparatus which made ProComm Plus the best selling program on PC Magazine's list. Monaco is an important part of the Datastorm story in Columbia.

- No worries, certainly having the -Columbia on there is not incorrect. However, the generic name is by far the more common in MUs self-identification, national media, and the vernacular. Because of that the naming conventions makes it pretty clear in which namespace the page should be located. I just wanted to keep it consistent. Sorting through those redirected page links also helps me to identify newly created articles related to Mizzou. So don't feel like you have to do it any particular way. History of MU-KU rivalry
I did not take everything out I did the first time, but there was a lot of legend passed of as history in the History section of the article. The legend has gotten bigger than the reality, which is fine for the rivalry itself, but it does not belong in an encyclopedia article. MU and KU did not start playing football because of Bleeding Kansas, and there were few involved in the 1890s with any connection to it between the two teams, especially in Columbia where almost no one had any connection to it. It is legend that has been created over time, not something if significance in the 1890s. I took it to the talk page of the article. I suggest it be discussed on the talk page before editing further. Question about section creation
Hi Greywanderer, There is a bit of a firestorm brewing in Salem, MO over in Dent County. It would have seemed to be a simple animal control case, but because it has gone on for 11 months, it has attracted attention from all over the world and a New York newspaper and CBS Broadcasting picked up the story. This seems to be the most attention Salem has ever had paid to it. So, since the story would only be a stub a number of editors created a History section for the Salem Mo Wikipedia page and wrote about the events around the dog called Phineas. The page has been blanked twice by a user with only an IP address. Then, starting yesterday, an editor with the username EEng started blanking the section. He keeps an uncited piece on a filter system at the Salem public library, but keeps stating in very strong and lengthy terms that Phineas' story is is not appropriate for the page. Last I saw the paragraph, it was as neutral as possible while stating why it is important for Salem's page and the Missouri project. As of all the people who have edited the paragraph, I am the only one that has a very small modicum of savvy in Wikipedia, I wondered if you thought that the story on Phineas was appropriate or not on Salem's page which is currently rated as Start Class in the WikiProject Cities project. Maybe EEng is correct and this is just a "week-old animal story (that) does not belong in wikipedia." I want to do what is right for the Salem page. A few folks think the Phineas event increases the visibility of Salem. - I agree with you that it should be included in some way. There is certainly no lack of space for content in the article and a google search for sources finds several very good reliable third-party sources. I have added some of these to the article and used some of the sources previously included. I do see a problem with the presence of primary sources in the article, original research and neutrality issues in the way it is presented. I have written the article to correct these problems. MU en dash
I think the "–Columbia" bit should stay on for mentions prior to the 2007 name change. If you graduated from the college now known as Truman State before 1996, you would still say you graduated from Northeast. - I would agree with you, if it was as simple as that. From 1839-1963 there was no "-Columbia". Also, "Missouri State University", was used quite frequently around the turn of the century. Furthermore, primary usage should be the deciding factor and for much, if not all, of the period between 1963-2007 "University of Missouri" remained as the term most popular to describe the institution. especially in sports. Truman State, and Missouri State have both undergone many name changes, and though certainly more ambiguous I support usage of the modern name in those places as well, though caveats could be useful. Salem, MO
Hi Grey Wanderer, Thank you again for working on the Salem, Missouri page and cleaning it up. I added a section about the election of a local resident to 8th Missouri congressional district. Tonight somebody kept blanking your section about the ACLU and the section about the US congressman from Salem. Gtwfan52 blanked it five times. I noted the following on her talk page, but she reverted it so it cannot be seen: "Hello, I'm Taram. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Salem, Missouri, because it did not appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Taram (talk) 05:52, 18 July 2013 (UTC)" Then she put a statement on my talk page saying I am in violation of the 3 re-vert rule and added an insult. I think I am way over my head in this. I just want people to be informed with no primary citations and to not fight. In her insult, Gtwfan52 said that she was " done with this for the night, but I will be back tomorrow and get a WP:3O." I don't know what I should do here. I have probably messed up again. If you have any ideas and would like to check it, I would appreciate it. Thank you!!

Columbia, Missouri
Here are some thoughts about Columbia, written after you reverted my addition about the manufactured gas plant.
Most cities have former industrial sites that can be repurposed in interesting ways if the money is available. Factory buildings and warehouses with no significant soil contamination have been redeveloped as housing or office buildings, for example, and railway stations have become restaurants or tourist information offices. Polluted sites are more of a problem, because contaminated soil has to be cleaned or removed before the site can be redeveloped. If you live in or near Columbia, you might be able to find some additional instances of redevelopment of former industrial sites that as a whole would be notable - and perhaps you could add a picture to the article.
If Columbia once had a streetcar system, that would be worth mentioning. So might its current transit system, even if it only consists of buses and wheelchair transit vehicles. Data about the number of transit vehicles, transit employees, and annual transit budget ought to be available, although the transit agency may serve an area greater than Columbia itself. Columbia
Since there can't possibly be a source that gives the current population, reflecting every death and every person immigrating from elsewhere, we need to use either an official census result or an official estimate, and specify that the population is as of that point, rather than saying "is a city of X residents". Moreover, virtually all US county seats specify that they currently are the county seat; merely mentioning that it was founded as the county seat doesn't say anything about the current status, because we could with equal accuracy say "Warrenton was founded in 1828 as the county seat of Warren County", even though it's a ghost town now. I don't understand your point about the UA/MSA bit, because most of the MSA definitely doesn't fit the definition quoted in the introduction of List of United States urban areas. Per Missouri statistical areas, the Columbia MSA is the fifth largest MSA located at least partially in the state, and surely we can ignore the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers MSA, as it's almost entirely in Arkansas, with just 22K people in Missouri. As long as we're talking about USCB terminology, see principal city if you've not previously; one doesn't find "principal municipality" in the USCB terminology. New deal for page patrollers
Hi Grey Wanderer,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Grey Wanderer. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
