Dear Grinner I wish to add your picture of Great Gable in an article started by me in Punjabi Wikipedia in incubator. But your picture of Great Gable is not in Wiki Commons, so I cant add. Skiddaw image resolution[edit]

Hi Grinner, I recently moved your excellent photo File:Skiddaw_borrowdale.jpg to Commons for use at de:Skiddaw. However, this is a very low-resolution image, and will not be very useful in print versions of the articles, or other applications. I was wondering whether you could make available a higher resolution version of this image, ideally the original resolution the photo was taken at. Thank you! Cuillin or Cuillin Hills?[edit]

I am writing on a German version about the Cuillin. I am confused concerning the proper denomination. I have learned that Cuillin is a correct an sufficient reference for this topic. Nevertheless, the expression Cuillin Hills has got a certain popularity. (At least looking at search engines results nourishes this impression. ;-) In addition to this the caption under the Cuillin image on my OS Outdoor Leisure Map 8 The Cuillin & Torridon Hills reads The Cuillin Hills - Isle of Skye. I cannot estimate which expression (Cuillin or Cuillin Hills) is more popular in German. Thus I have no idea whether it is better to redirect from Cuillin to Cuillin Hills or vice versa. Perhaps you can help me by telling me more about the background of the denomination in English? I would say that the phrase 'Cullin Hills' is generally not used. The OS map is the only example I can think of. Generally in UK/Scottish English 'Hill' and 'Mountain' are used interchangably, so it's not really a matter of whether or not the Cuillin are 'hills'. I suppose that in some way, the Cuillin are so different form other Socttish mountains that they don't need any suffix. In normal speech (amongst hillwalkers anyway) one would simply say things like "I was on the Cuillin at weekend" etc. Juts my thoughts any way! Grinner (talk) 11:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for explaining your opinion. I think that is the point: The Cuillin not really needs any suffix. (Think of other mountains or mountain ranges that have a "popular" name so that the rest of the denomination seems dispensable, Everest e. g.) Additionally to me it seems that the Gaelic terms An Cuiltheann and An Cuilthionn contain nothing like "hill", "mountain" etc. Perhaps You know somebody able of speaking Gaelic to prove this? For now I will create an article Cuillin in the German Wikipedia and redirect from there to Cuillin Hills. Perhaps we get more feedback from other Cuillin fans later on. Nomination of Gateshead Thunder for deletion[edit]
