Abbasi

Abbasi now has one reference. Should it be deleted, or instead be copyedited? See also Talk:Abbasi.--DThomsen8 (talk) 13:15, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

@Dthomsen8: You could always make a disambiguation page out of it, with links leading to Abbasi (currency) and the various people named Abbasi. At least get rid of the (unsourced) history of the Abbasid dynasty. - HyperGaruda (talk) 13:41, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
And apparently there are also various places named "Abbasi". By the way, that one reference is not exactly a reliable source. - HyperGaruda (talk) 14:04, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Muawiyah I may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. Muawiyah_I page

HyperGaruda you recently removed a lot of text from the Muawiyah_I page. Please understand that we spent years collecting that information and then writing it.

HyperGaruda was there any particular reason why you did not discuss this on the talk page before removing it. You could have consulted everyone who contributed to this page. We all spent a lot of effort collecting all the content. --Johnleeds1 (talk) 22:13, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

@Johnleeds1: My initial concern was that the page was over 200 kB in size, more than 4 times the recommended page size. In addition to being difficult to load the page on low-end devices, a wall of text like that is not pleasant to read at all. Thus I started too look at what could be moved out, either by merging to other articles or simply deleting if the content is already covered in other articles. Depending on whether or not the passages were relevant, I would leave a short summary to keep the prose continuous. Please refer to edit descriptions in the article's revision history for a breakdown of why I (re)moved certain sections (most of the time they were not directly related to Mu‘âwiyah himself, i.e. a WP:COATRACK). Also, you -because it was apparently you who quadrupled the page in this edit- tend to add large amounts of verbatim quotes from non-free sources. Even if properly attributed, that amount of quoting could be considered copyright infringement. - HyperGaruda (talk) 07:15, 22 February 2016 (UTC

HyperGaruda this page touches on a lot of other articles in wikipedia. I will be looking at the pages surrounding it in the next few months too. We went through a huge discussion and had to do a lot of work while building this article. We had to use so many quotes because Sunnis did not know what Sunni books said and the Shias did not know what their books said and they kept of arguing. Even though the earlier books had similar content. By using so many references, we managed to stabilise the article and showed what the various books actually said. We also used a lot of books from western academics. Hence the article remained stable for around 2 years event though it covered very contentious subjects. HyperGaruda over the next few months I will be working with you on various articles. HyperGaruda it will be good to work with you. --Johnleeds1 (talk) 21:32, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Abdullahfaruqibnibrahimy

HyperGaruda Alexf FreeatlastChitchat Actually I did not know rules and regulations of wikipedia. And I still do not know rules and regulations of wikipedia very well. I have seen that a youtube video of Sheikh Imran Hosein is added as external link in page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masih_ad-Dajjal. So I have also added my youtube video as external link in wikipedia. Previously I have added a pdf file in list of external links. But that link is also removed. Now I am confused about what is an acceptable link for listing in the external link of wikipedia. I am trying to provide some additional information to readers. Now I am interested to add this link, which is https://abdullahfaruq.wordpress.com, in list of external links of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahdi page. Now is this acceptable ? This time I want to make sure that it is acceptable before editing wikipedia so you can not object to me later. My writing contains highly reliable text. You can verify it with someone, who knows very well about this subject. And what is wrong if my writing is self-published ? If the problem is with publishing on my blog or google drive or youtube channel then is it going to solve the problem if I publish it on someone else blog or google drive or website or youtube channel ? How are you going to accept one single paragraph of mine as linkable to list of external links of any page of wikipedia ? I guess wikipedia editors do response to this kind of questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdullahfaruqibnibrahimy (talkcontribs) 20:37, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Chris18.07/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Changing reference systems

Hi User:HyperGaruda. I see that you've made some edits to some of the articles my students are working on, thank you! However, I am concerned that you changed a student's decision to use sfn. I think Wikipedians who create an article should use whatever system they think best and the sfn method permits an easy way to disentangle the prose of the article from bibliography: It makes it much easier for other people to review and edit. (Personally, I have a difficulty time reading source with huge globs of bibliographic templates within the prose.) In any case, I don't think any system is agreed upon by Wikipedians in general as the best or most approriate (correct me if I'm wrong) and we should be careful of making such changes without a good reason. -Reagle (talk) 19:31, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Canal lining Article

Hi HyperGaruda, Thank you for letting me know that the article on Canal lining is a duplicate. Is there an easy way to consolidate the two articles to fix this? -RaggyMan — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaggyMan (talkcontribs) 15:31, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

@RaggyMan: Hey there! Take a look at WP:MERGETEXT (section "How to merge"). It gives a step-by-step guide on how to properly merge two pages. It is basically copy-pasting, combined with a note that the content was copy-pasted from A to B. From the looks of it, you can skip steps 3, 5, and 6. I do suggest that you merge the content from Canal Lining to Canal lining (i.e. the latter gets all the content), because of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization). Happy editing! - HyperGaruda (talk) 16:09, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Darling London

Dear User:HyperGaruda, First i would like to thank you for your well contribution to Wikipedia. Well i am writing on your talk page regarding an article that you recently edited Darling London, Thanks again for visiting and editing this article. I have two points:

1. There is one orphan tag on this article, How can i remove that tag? i found no other article that contains "Darling London" name!
2. In the first paragraph you mentioned [not in citation given] for 1st citation, For resolve this tag can i edit the title of first citation from "Not your usual granny tweed!" to "Elsa jacket, £99, darlingclothes.com;". I found this new title on URL available in first citation. or may i remove first citation?

Sorry for my bad English

Thanks

BP (talk) 06:11, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

@Patel.bhupesh: Oops, I totally forgot about this. I am so sorry for not replying any sooner. About the orphan tag: be creative and think about what article should mention the company. For example: Darling London is located at Fitzroy Square, so you could add a sentence+link on that page. For more suggestions, check out Wikipedia:Orphan#Various ways to de-orphan. It seems that Dthomsen8 has already taken care of the second problem. - HyperGaruda (talk) 20:02, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

If you have the time...

I'm trying to build Chief Justice of Indonesia, but keep finding myself pulled away from the computer. I'm surprised there wasn't already an article for this. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:19, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Hey MezzoMezzo! I'll see if I can import some bits and pieces from id-wiki and other sources, but you will have to excuse me until this weekend, when I've got the time to do more than minor copyediting. - HyperGaruda (talk) 08:32, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
No problem man, any help would better the encyclopedia. One question as well, as this one escapes me: Indonesia has the Supreme Court of Indonesia and the Constitutional Court of Indonesia. The title of the article I created is "Chief Justice of Indonesia" but in retrospect I feel I might need to turn that one into a disambiguation page and then make a separate article for both chief justices. Does that sound more accurate? MezzoMezzo (talk) 03:47, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
@MezzoMezzo: you're absolutely right there. I'd say, go for it :) - HyperGaruda (talk) 06:37, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
It's now done and done: Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia and Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia.
Also, I'm sorry if I sort of dumped data entry work on you; I know you do a lot more meta work that's more involved than that. Though speaking of meta work...I noticed that many of the photos for these judges and justices on the Indonesian wiki aren't on Commons. Do you know a page where I can read about how to copy them to Commons so they can be used here on the English wiki? MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:38, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
@MezzoMezzo: You're doing a bang-up job there with the Chief Justice articles! I'm primarily doing meta work with the idea that, once in a while, I come across an interesting page which I can expand content-wise. In a way, you could say that I'm a WP:WikiOgre/WP:WikiGnome hybrid, so don't worry about giving me something else to do - I like a bit of variety ;) About the images: there is a bit of a copyright issue there. The images are from official government websites, so at first sight, they are eligible for commons:Template:PD-IDGov (images published by the govt are exempt from copyright). However, most of those websites have a copyright sign in the footer, so would fall under the exception mentioned in point b of that template. Even more confusing, the template is based on a law from 2002, while there is a new one from 2014 (see the talk page). Until the template gets updated, it may be difficult to upload those images to Commons. - HyperGaruda (talk) 09:58, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

I removed the PROD tag from this article, because my understanding is that the requirement that an article can be only PRODded once is intended to be strictly interpreted. However, I will nominate the article for WP:AFD. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 05:11, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

فريد شهابFarid Chehab

You HyperGaruda deleted my article on فريد شهابFarid Chehab with speedy deletion because you claimed it is copied from another website and you dont even read or understand arabic as your profile say! it took me 5 hours to prepare this article and you deleted it in no time without even giving me the chance to have a look and defend myself. Yes there was a part that was copied, but you have to know that this part was Governmental Official Document that have been leaked and It was very important to keep them as they are without any changes. I clearly mentioned that in the article. And the website you claimed I copied it from is nothing but a news agency copying from a newspaper.

Is there any way to reverse that deletion and bring back the article I wrote. It is my first article by the way, and you made me very discouraged now.

Alikhandro.farhat (talk) 00:41, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
@Alikhandro.farhat: I am sorry if you have been discouraged from editing on Wikipedia, but the rules concerning copy-pasting are very strict for legal reasons. I am sufficiently able to read Arabic in order to follow what it is about, and it does not take a genius to compare one text to another (Please be aware that en.wikipedia.org is the English Wikipedia and that pages in other languages have no place here). Since you are admitting here that the text was copied, I do not think that a request for undeletion has much chance, but you could always try at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion or ask the admin who deleted the article (Maile66) to email you a copy for personal use. - HyperGaruda (talk) 08:01, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
@HyperGaruda: I am not sure if you are stubborn or stupid, but I am sure you don't understand Arabic, and maybe not even English. Please stop acting as a smartarse. I very well explained that the only the section of the "leaked official governmental documents" (which should not be paraphrased under any circumstance and should be copied at they are without any edits) were copied, which I believe makes sense. You don't expect WikiLeaks to paraphrase the leaked documents they publish, do you? In the article that I created, I already explained that very explicitly. The speedy deletion didn't give me a chance to at least edit the page by italicizing the "official governmental texts" or putting them in brackets, or even maybe delete the whole section of the "leaked official governmental documents". Next time, your policeman hormones erupt and you decide to report/tag a page for a speedy deletion, do take a breathe and at least request a change or a review before you act. In any case, it would be great if I got a copy of the article, so I can edit it and re-publish it in Arabic Wikipedia. - Alikhandro.farhat (talk) 09:06, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

@Mhhossein: I see that you've reverted my tagging of Black Friday (and found a reference), is that what you are talking about? For your information, I was reading through the article about the game 1979 Revolution: Black Friday, because they were talking about it on the radio yesterday. Going from there to the actual day is not that big of a surprise, considering the hatnote. --HyperGaruda (talk) 15:00, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Several similar cases have occurred till now; You edit articles where you had never been, just after I edit that article. I have no problem with that and I know that you're not violating any policies, but I don't mind to know if there's any reasoning behind it. Thanks. --Mhhossein talk 16:31, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Are you seeking something by following (let's not say hounding) me? --Mhhossein talk 17:22, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I have become rather concerned about your tendentious editing in topics regarding Shias/Iranians vs others, such as Wahhabis, Sunnis, and the West. So yes, I will from time to time check your edits (per WP:HOUND's exception "fixing ... violations of Wikipedia policy") if it looks like they demonise those others. There, it's out. Can we continue now... --HyperGaruda (talk) 17:46, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Now you should have enough proofs showing my "tendentious editing"! or, as you know, the outcome will not be that suitable. What you just called "WP:HOUND's exception" seems harassing to my eyes. Perhaps you need to be as objective as possible. I know, that's not easy. --Mhhossein talk 05:28, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Dear @Mindcap: according to WP:Orphan#Criteria, there is actually only 1 incoming link from List of R&B musicians (the other ones are disambiguation and redirect pages and do not count as incoming links), but that is all it takes to de-orphan Kasha Mann. So yes, time to remove it ;) --HyperGaruda (talk) 09:41, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

Racist statement

Hello. I need your help about an anonymous user who wrote a message in my talk page which I deem very racist and derogatory. This is what he said:

@Calvin Wisanto: while it is not nice to call people like that, I do not think that there is much that can be done. It is only one comment, and due to the IP's bad grasp of English, it is not entirely clear what the IP meant to say. --HyperGaruda (talk) 20:08, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Still though, I felt really offended as an Indonesian since the IP use the word "indon", which contains a really negative meaning for us Indonesian. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

reliable source

i'd like to know whether chinadaily is a reliable source for reference? what is the standard for RELIABLE? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twinklestellar (talkcontribs) 15:12, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

@Twinklestellar: Hi, please take a look at Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. From what I can tell, China Daily is a reliable source. The main problem you have at Jason Zhang, however, is not the quality of the sources, but the lack of references to those sources. Help:Referencing for beginners is a guide that should help you with proper referencing. Oh, and please do not use Chinese text here, because en.wikipedia.org is written in English. --HyperGaruda (talk) 19:47, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
