January 2008[edit]

If you could: Image:MortonDowney.jpg needs attention too. — Κaiba 00:16, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't mind, I am going through probably through the oldest uploads on Wikipedia right now and your name is coming up as the uploader a lot, so I'll make a short list of images for you to add rationales to. — Κaiba 02:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problem user[edit]

Hi Infrogmation: Several months ago, you cautioned and blocked a user for persistent vandalism. 209.152.83.1 is at it again, replacing entire pages with two or three words along the lines of "dumb animal" and "pest". Any chance you can warn or block this IP again? Thanks! MeegsC | Talk 16:58, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like grade school vandalism with no edits of value for months. Reblocked. Thanks for the notice. -- Infrogmation (talk) 17:59, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Yat (New Orleans), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Louis Armstrong[edit]

My source is the H.W. Wilson publication Current Biography, which first wrote about Armstrong in 1944. However, I agree with you, it looks like they must have been referring to William Jones Johnson, whose nickname was "Bunk". Their source, in turn, was Louis Armstrong's first autobiography, Swing That Music. It looks like their mistranscription (see Google books for confirmation) ("...he would steal into the Dago Tony Tonk, where his hero Bunk Jones played the coronet") I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Dago Tonky Tonk instead. I'll make the change; thanks for catching it. Mandsford (talk) 20:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Derby Records, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Historic sites around New Orleans and LA[edit]

Hi Infrogmation -- Very pleased to hear from you, and that you noticed my work on list and sites covered in List of National Historic Landmarks in Louisiana. I often don't browse another person's userpage, but i did and am impressed with your wiki-credentials. Liked your link about the wiki-cabal-email-list. I recently found i was interested in learning more about wikipedia history and it adds to my picture of it all. Nice work with photos of hurricane aftermath, too, seems like quite an important contribution.

Anyhow, I would be very glad if you could take any pics of NHLs in New Orleans. I recently started up George Washington Cable House article about a cottage in the Garden District, New Orleans. There are some pics in HABS of other buildings that inspired the writer George Washington Cable, but notably no pic of his home. It would be really great if u could swing by. And obviously the article for the Garden District itself, which turns out to be an NHL itself, and which article i think lacks any pics at all, seems especially lacking. I have yet to go browse the cache of commons pics you mentioned, maybe they cover these. Obviously, the current list of NHLs article lacks pics for most sites in New Orleans and elsewhere, and the descriptions are mostly blank. Your photos and editing help even for the most basic descriptions would be most appreciated. I've visited LA 2x for conventions b4 katrina, stayed in Garden District once, now wish i hadda tooken more pics myself.... :)

FYI, I have been working mostly on developing List of National Historic Landmarks in New York closer to submission for Featured List status, but i also like working at the kinda raw level where the Louisiana NHL list is at now, and it is also in my crosshairs so to speak. Cheers, doncram (talk) 21:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits adding commons galleries and/or pics and also your editing descriptions in Madame John's Legacy and other of the New Orleans NHL articles! I've never come across this in any other state, someone having ready commons galleries to put into the articles. I am very encouraged by receiving your contributions/feedback/interest that way, so i have happily been doing more in the NHL list and in creating articles for the now-less-numerous red-links. P.S. I glanced at your "contributions" and ur most numerous edits seem to be doing administrative reverts, hope that is not depressing work. Luckily there is little vandalism on the historic site articles i mostly work on. Keep up the good work, cheers doncram (talk) 04:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hello,
I was about to use this photo, which you uploaded, for the Hebrew article of El Capitolio, but then I noticed there's one problem - according to the description of the photo, it was taken on 1920. However, the Capitolio was erected only in 1929. Can you solve the problem? Idobi1 (talk) 19:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Note I said "c. 1920" not "1920"; as the card was not dated and that was my guess from appearance. Back when I uploaded the image, we didn't yet have any article on the building. As the card described the image as the "New Capital Building", I presume it would be fairly soon after the completion in 1929. I have modified the copyright tag on Commons to PD-US-no notice -- legally the same public domain status per US law. Hope this helps, and thanks again. -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit [1] to Super Tuesday (2008) has me puzzled. Which two of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia are no longer states? By my count, this is 24, not 22 states. --Kralizec! (talk) 13:49, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I explained on the talk page of the article, see there. Before my edit, the article claimed American Samoa was a state, which is not; that's the issue I was concerned with. If you can make the language or numbers in the article more accurate, please do so. Thank you, -- Infrogmation (talk) 14:13, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request[edit]

User talk:Markreidyhp has requested an unblock. I have not done so yet, but I have left conditions at his talk page that he must meet BEFORE I grant the request. Could you please check this over, since you were the blocking admin, and see if my conditions seem reasonable? He appears somewhat contrite, and I am inclined to shorten his block IF he can show he knows WHY what he did is wrong. How does this sound? --Jayron32.talk.contribs 18:27, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice. Sounds fine to me. I added a comment on Markreidyhp's talk page. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice and Discussion: Redlink changes by BETA[edit]

Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on The_Last_Paradises:_On_the_Track_of_Rare_Animals.

Please don't impugn other editors' behaviors based on superlation of stylistic guidelines. Editor's have to make a judgment call between what is best for our readers, and what is easiest for our editors in order to build an encyclopedia. In other words, I had to weigh WP:REDLINK, and WP:CONTEXT to make a determination of what to do with these links. I happened to lean more towards context, and concluded that the content of one article could not possibly be relevant to the context of another if one contained no information.

Obviously we had consensus issues because our opinions differ, and I will not revert changes you have made. But, this does not mean that my opinion is wrong.

The lack of consensus does not give you cause to make an impulsive mass revert of all changes made by me, and to publicly berate me for my judgments. Thank you. —BETA 16:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SwanRecordNapoleon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SwanRecordNapoleon.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:28, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

William Brocke Badger[edit]

You have removed an article on William Brocke Badger which is of interest to me. Is it possible to send me a copy of this article if it is not suitable to be published on this site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.25.15 (talk) 15:34, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was a silly prank article, hence deleted. I believe it was copied to "Wikipedia:Bad jokes & other deleted nonsense" before deletion; try a search for it. -- 17:32, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for reverting the edits and then tagging 163.153.175.63. The district has reported that "I believe we identified the students and are taking appropriate steps." --NERIC-Security (talk) 13:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you blocked this user for 1 month for vandalism. Note that he did not perform any vandalism after his final warning. May I suggest you lift or commute the block? Stifle (talk) 11:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note the user had been warned about junk edits earlier, and some of Junulo's edits were outright vandalism. I think the block was justified by the user behavior. However I do not object to lifting the block early if Junulo expresses intent to refrain from problem edits in the future, and I have put a note to that effect on Junulo's talk page. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Kimbo Disney header.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kimbo Disney header.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:08, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Francis Davis Millet[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Francis Davis Millet, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Francis Davis Millet. Could you unlock the page [[[Pornograph]]] as I've think that you locked it. I think it should be a disambig or maybe a redirect. I was trying to find sensitive Pornograph article and had a hard time as I wasn't sure what exactly the cartoon was called.

Looking for Wikipedians for a User Study[edit]

Hello. I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. We are conducting research on ways to engage content experts on Wikipedia. Previously, Wikipedia started the Adopt-a-User program to allow new users to get to know seasoned Wikipedia editors. We are interested in learning more about how this type of relationship works. Based on your editing record on Wikipedia, we thought you might be interested in participating. If chosen to participate, you will be compensated for your time. We estimate that most participants will spend an hour (over two weeks on your own time and from your own computer) on the study. To learn more or to sign up contact KATPA at CS dot UMN dot EDU or User:KatherinePanciera/WPMentoring. Thanks. KatherinePanciera (talk) 02:04, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Campeche_in_Mexiko.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Campeche_in_Mexiko.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Kelly hi! 00:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As said, was from de:Wikipedia, but as that was already copied to Commons, I have speedy deleted the local version as redundant to Image:Campeche in Mexico.png. -- Infrogmation (talk) 00:55, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When you get a chance, could you look at this image you uploaded and see if you can update the copyright tag on it? I wasn't able to find it at the loc.gov site with a quick search or I'd have fixed it. Thanks. Shell babelfish 01:33, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It just was. I have my neew name.

RE:YWCA 1919[edit]

I doubt that you are the artist and copyright holder of Image:YWCA In Service for the Girls of the World - Poster, 1919 s58d.5 - 2.jpg as you claimed. Per the Library of Congress site the image creator was Neysa McMein who is listed as having died in 1949. The image description has been changed in line with information from the LOC source. (If any of the information as currently listed is incorrect, please correct it.) Note that it is YOUR responsibility to accurately list inforation of any image you upload. Thank you for paying attention to this in the future, and for correcting any errors which might be in your earlier uploads. -- Infrogmation (talk) 17:12, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is, I only created a modificated version of this for WP:GL/IMPROVE, and I'm not the original author, so I simply copy-pasted the source info. --ANONYMOUSPUSSY 18:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deleting media copied to Commons[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation! Can you point out somewhere I messed up so I know not to repeat my mistakes? Usually, I'll delete only if the copyright information seems plausible, the upload log is retained, and the image is in a category on Commons. east.718 at 08:03, April 25, 2008
