Hi, the changes you are making are well intentioned but please make sure you are improving things. Changing "Sydney FC" to "Sydney" or "Tokyo FC" to "Tokyo" is not helpful as there are many teams in Sydney and Tokyo, so removing the full club name makes the listing less accurate and more confusing. It's actually common practice. Many Brazilian players have an article at their full name but only use their piped, single name in rosters. Camilo Sanvezzo is one that comes to mind during his time in Vancouver. I don't think there's a MoS on this, it's simply common practice, and certainly not worth edit warring over. It is common in Portuguese-speaking languages (specially because sometimes they have quite large names, FE: Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima) and fairly common in Spain, not that much outside of those places, at least not that much in official lists. Personally they tend to look ridiculous but okay, If there's some sort of consensus, I'll stop fighting that.

Hello- per WP:NBA free agent signings need to either be announced by the team or added to their official roster before changing the teams on WP. Otherwise the deal isn't official. Please wait until the team announces a signing, Wikipedia isn't a newspaper and doesn't need to break the news before it is official and some deals never materialize at all. Hi, It has come to my attention that you have change flag for AS Monaco players from france to monaco. Please do not to that, this has been dicussed several times and AS Monaco plays in france football association and represents france in international competition such as Champions League and are therfore considered a french team and they should have flag of france. You dont see catalan flag for every player from barcelona, it is same principle. Hi, when you update the stats in football players' infoboxes please remember that you should also update the |pcupdate= (or |ntupdate=) parameter. I think you should look at WP:NOTBROKEN. If an article links to [[NBA]] leave it. It shouldn't be changed to [[National Basketball Association|NBA]]

Curious thing, I was actually about to message someone about that. The original inclusion of countries/leagues were made because, I honestly find them helpful for the average reader of the wiki article who might not be familiar with those European/Asian clubs and might not be compelled to investigate them otherwise (that's why I added them to, well, all the rest of the NBA players that didn't have them). Honestly, I see both sides of the issue. The issue with European leagues is that most of them relegate/promote teams so you can't always assume a team was in the top division when a given player competed for them, so in that case what do you link? The result was that European editors would add multiple entires for the same team linking the different leagues, etc. there are lots of pros and cons to this and no definitive consensus has been reached so it probably isn't something any of us should edit war over. I have a preference on this issue, but I don't generally change how it's done on articles for this reason. Rikster2 (talk) 17:17, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Well, being fair, before adding the country of said team, I did my best to investigate in which league was that team at the time (hence several teams on other articles had, for example, "Spain 2nd" or "Spain 3rd", hell someone, I think on Luis Scola's page, had it like "Spain 1/2" because that team was relegated while Scola was playing, which is actually a nice idea). If you have been paying attention to my edits, I try to be as accurate as possible and I'd like to remain like that. And again, I did those articles having the average American sports' reader in mind (it's their local league and I bet the biggest chunk of those readers are American) and said reader won't have an idea where all those other teams come from and probably won't be compelled to click those articles anyway, with those edits the reader at least will have an idea where a player like Raduljica has been. Hey, I'm not questioning your editing at all. I'm just saying you don't have consensus on your side on this one - there is no consensus on this format. You could have been banned for violating WP:3RR, as could the other guy. It's not worth it. I would say that you can't fully expect the audience for basketball articles to be American. There are many, many active editors in Europe as English is the connector in the EU. And for players like Raduljica, who were stars in Europe before coming to the US, you have to accept that he probably has a fan base beyond the United States. Take care. Country and D-League

I don't think designations like 2nd or 3rd with a team's country is needed. It's overloading the infobox and most wouldnt know what it is referring to. Also, "D-League" is fine for the infobox, but it's first usage in prose should be the full blown "NBA Development League" the first time it is used per MOS:ACRO. Unless you think it is the common name, in which case you should get consensus to rename the article first.—Bagumba (talk) 02:53, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

I don't know, given that European teams have the tendency to be promoted and relegated, it's useful to know where have they been at the time, plus it does give you an idea, at least a slight one, of what kind level of basketball has the player been playing at, and, I believe, with the "2nd", "3rd" et. al. the reader can infer that we're talking about, well, levels. However, if you change his page to the Lakers, someone will change it back because the deal is not official yet (it will be till July 9). It's wikipedia policy. But don't worry, as long as the agreement between Williams and the Lakers stays in place, eventually, all the pertinent info will change. Sorry for the late response. I agree with you, as you can see from the talk page, as do many editors who take the time and trouble to stop by to correct/update information that is out of date; they tend to get bitten pretty soon. I can see the logic of noting players' clubs on their call-up, and can see that it was sourced. Though their current club can be sourced easily too. I would favour the addition of an extra column noting their current club. However, the aggressive responses of the page owners makes it more trouble than it's worth to me for now. Thanks for your response. I just saw the discussion you had with PeeJay back then. It seems like he was the same charmer back then. Anyway, I think the extra column would only clutter the page more (I'm more in favour with adding a source next to the new club). Problem is, the way seems to fight for any petty detail because... who knows why, for example, a fight he had with an anon for the jersey number, even after the anon placed a source. If he continues that behaviour (and even more, his rudeness), he probably will need to be reported. RealGM.com

Thanks for creating all of the basketball articles for NBA signees. As a general rule, I'd advise against using RealGM as a source for place of birth. They usually just append the hometown from the college bio into that field, even though that almost never is the case. Hometown is simply where the player lives when the bio is active. I never use Real GM without a corroborating source, but I especially get suspicious if the stated place of birth is the same as the city the players' high school is in. Just a tip. I see you've re-added free agents to NBA rosters who have been removed by the teams from their official rosters at the team sites. Once the team has removed the player, Wikipedia should reflect that. Hey, I just saw the work that you put up for Kyle Casey, and I got to say I'm really impressed by the work you put into it! So impressed, in fact, that I wanted to ask if you create a few new articles for some assistant head coaches as well. Specifically for the likes of Mike Longabardi and Nate Bjorkgren. The reason I'm asking for your help is because I honestly, for lack of a better term, don't know all that much about either one of these assistant coaches. I mean, I know Mike was a part of the Boston Celtics' coaching staff before he got hired by Phoenix, and Nate was the head coach for both the Iowa Energy and the Bakersfield Jam before being a part of the Suns, but I don't know much beyond that. Intruder - just on that though. While you are doing a great job with creating articles for NBA player signings, you should be cautious with copy and pasting info straight from college bios or NBA press releases. While college bios are a great source for information, you should try to look elsewhere for secondary sources rather than purely primary sources i.e. college bios, NBA.com. I have expanded the way I create articles over the past two years as I used to do exactly what you are doing now. But if you look at Mario Little - I went ahead and re-vamped that article after it was flagged for copyvio. This could well happen to the articles you have created as well. Birthplace vs. hometown

Regarding Jason Washburn, there is a difference between a person's birthplace and their "hometown." The hometown is where the person lives (or lived at the time the profile was active), you can't assume they were born there. In Washburn's profile there is no birthplace listed, only a hometown. Here is an example of a college bio that shows birthplace. Usually it's in the personal section next to the DOB. The problem with RealGM.com is that they nearly always port the hometown from the college bio and call it their birthplace, which is often wrong. I can see where you're coming from. In Washburn case I had actually taken the bio as a point of reference instead of RealGM (you had told me about GM's unreliability in that regard). For what is worth, the sites on the list below cite Washburn's birthplace as Battle Creek. Were they based on original research, RealGM or they assumed the hometown and birthplace are the same? It's hard to know.

Rikster - while a lot are listing Battle Creek as hometown, others are also listing it as birthplace as well i.e. most notably Yahoo and Washington Post. I'd say it is highly likely that Battle Creek is correct as I can't find anything that states otherwise. Unless of course they are all porting the city (which is the same as his HS city) from the same place. I don't trust the Washington Post player profiles - just looking, they list J. P. Tokoto as born in Menomonee Falls, WI when he was born in Rockford, IL. So does Yahoo. The problem is that these people just grab info from other sources and take it as truth. Basketball birthplaces II

Hey - Julian Washburn is a great example of the problem of incorrect birthplaces that is rampant for basketball players. You added "Duncanville" and linked a source, but in the linked UTEP bio it clearly says he was born in Houston. Honestly, I am ALWAYS skeptical if the player's birthplace is the same as his HS city unless it's a big city. My recommendation is always default to the college bio and if place of birth isn't listed there then look for other sites. I also try to use some logic, like if there is no hospital in the town it's unlikely (though not impossible) they were born there. Not saying that's an issue with Duncanville, just trying to help. Just a heads up, Court-Side get all their content from Eurobasket. Nothing they have on their website is original content. Their wording and stats all come from Eurobasket, so whenever you see a post on their site, head over to Eurobasket and you'll find the corresponding post i.e. CS's Christmas post came after Eurobasket's. I know you know about Eurobasket, just letting you know how useless CS actually is. Eurobasket isnt always that trustworthy though – a lot of "player signing" posts happen after a player plays their first game for a team, as that is when the system picks up a new player and adds them to the roster. WP:MOSFLAG

WP:ICONDECORATION: "An icon is purely decorative if it does not improve comprehension of the article subject and serves no navigational function." Cluttering a list of footballers and clubs with flags does not improve comprehension (in one case, it makes it worse) and is not used for navigation. In this case it's actually useful, given that on most cases, most of the footballers on that list are not known by everyone, the same with several clubs. With the flags present is easier to identify the local and foreign players and gives a better idea of the way each club spends their money. There is a reason all the transaction lists (except for this one) include flags, at least with foreign players and clubs, they do improve clarity. On Berwick's case, while they on the Scotish League Two, they are based on English territory, hence the English flag (same way, Swansea City, while playing on the English Premier League, has the Welsh flag here). However, if it's for the sake of clarity, I don't mind a compromise on that case and leave Berwick without a flag.Intruder007 (talk) 01:57, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

If the Idaho Stampede relocated and changed names, then this shouldn't be a separate entry for players like Treveon Graham. Rikster2 – To add to this, I am planning over the coming weeks to start merging duplicate articles. Per your example of Philadelphia 76ers/Syracuse Nationals, when I was going through past D-League champions, I see a lot of previous team names have their own article, which they shouldn't. Syracuse Nationals redirects to Philadelphia 76ers, just like Tulsa 66ers redirects to Oklahoma City Blue. Colorado 14ers, for example, shouldn't have its own article as it should be one with Texas Legends. However, I think exceptions can be made, like Seattle Supersonics has it own article rather than a redirect to Oklahoma City Thunder. Perhaps teams that have pre-D-League history could keep an article, like Dakota Wizards, but Huntsville Flight shouldn't have its own article, it should be one with Canton Charge. It's just common practise, especially within Project NBA [9]. The only NBA exemptions I can find is Seattle SuperSonics and Vancouver Grizzlies. I'm just trying to streamline the D-League. Some past team names have articles, some don't. I was attempting to add some consistency to the D-League as it is all over the place and rather messy. Sure, Idaho Stampede would meet those "loose" guidelines I came up with for Dakota Wizards with them also having "pre-D-League history", but why Bakersfield? Sure, like you said, if the Jam become one again, then of course the info should be put back. But as for now, it is a past team name of the Northern Arizona Suns franchise, and why should it be a exemption like the Seattle SuperSonics? It's been discussed off an on for years at WP (see example) and on article Talk pages. To me the idea of having a separate page to commemorate 10 seasons of a minor league basketball team like the Jam seems silly. You can pretty much sum that up in a fully-fleshed out prose section. While I am fine letting you all do your own thing with basketball team articles and won't stop you from merging (I created the NAZ Suns page but don't really follow basketball that much), it seems Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey does things a bit different by following WP:NOTPAPER. Most older or defunct professional teams easily pass WP:GNG to gain notability on their own merits without their current incarnation. It also can make things easier to sort (sometimes) by historical records and directing wikilinks to the direct mention of the subject (since the direct using #SectionTitle can be more easily changed via editing, and hence not work anymore, than directing to PageTitle). Another big factor that I saw with splitting would have been especially helpful when the St. Louis Rams moved back to LA. Instead of having weeks long edit wars and broken templates with IP and users changing things back and forth, it would have been much cleaner to just have re-activated the (at the the time theoretical) Los Angeles Rams pages from defunct to active and change the St. Louis Rams page to a defunct team. This is a situation you may see again as the Bakersfield Jam attempt to resurrect their team and want to retain team history (see St. John's IceCaps for a minor league hockey team that recently did the same thing). @Rikster2: Detroit Cougars (NHL) isn't comparable as it wasn't a relocation or other major franchise change, it was simply a renaming (they also were called the Detroit Falcons (NHL) for a couple of seasons). You could nitpick against the Phoenix Coyotes, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and Oakland Seals for the same thing. While we do things differently (and there are definite pros and cons to either way of handling relocations, I am in no way saying one is better than another), it does seem the Hockey Project has been pretty effective in having most major league and top level minor league franchise relocations that pass WP:GNG have their own pages. The fact that there are exceptions such as the SuperSonics and Vancouver Grizzlies (not to mention the young D-League having had split pages for some teams and not others for the last few years without the NBA Project saying anything) shows that maybe the concept or controls should/could be reconsidered. That used to bug me, but at a certain point I say fine, but give other projects the same respect. I can buy that there are some cases where an old franchise is worth expanding into an article. But it's tough to argue that the Bakersfield Jam is one of those cases. Unless they restart the franchise and are granted the history. You're gonna have to forgive me, buddy, but none of the changes I made to the Peru page are what could be constituted as vandalism. None of them. The extra space between the text about the 23 players and the one talking about the last update of the caps and goals was put to make the text easier to read (it's specially useful for editors because you can find quicker when was the last time the caps and goals were updated). Second, putting the current squad by jersey number on international competitions is commonplace and makes it a little easier to follow. Third, it's again commonplace to have the words "current squad" and "recent call-ups" as the subtitles to the players' section. All the previous changes made the players' info clearer and easier to read, which in an encyclopedia is one of the main goals. I just don't see why is any of those changes "vandalism". Edit summaries

Hey Intruder007. Your tireless efforts with NBA articles does not go unnoticed, keep up the good work! Can I make a suggestion though: perhaps change up the way you use edit summaries. The "..." means nothing and is simply not a summary of what you have done – you might as well leave the edit summary blank instead of the three periods. With this for example, a better edit summary could be "standardizing references" or "fixing references". Edit summaries should provide clarity so other users can tell what it is you have done. "..." forces users like myself to have a peep at what it was you just changed. I don't have any problems with your changes to John Lucas, I do however feel your edit summaries are not adequate, especially for large content additions like at Mo Williams. Standardizing citations

Hi Intruder007. I saw your edit at Kevon Looney with edit summary of "Standardizing references". I typically don't include accessdate in my citations when I supply an archive url already; there's already a backup included, so I'd argue there's not much benefit in knowing when the url was last working. Feel free to add accessdate if you insist, but it seems incorrect that you use the article's publish date as the accessdate. Per documentation for accessdate: Full date when the content pointed to by url was last verified to support the text in the article. Also for this edit, it is from the San Francisco Chronicle, which is implied in the article by "Connor Letourneau is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer". It seems overkill to list the domain name (SFGate.com) instead of the newspaper as the work, only to have to list "San Francisco Chronicle" as the publisher for clarity. G League rosters and 2-Way contracts

I see that you've been removing two-way contract players from G League rosters (example). This is the first year we have had these types of players so we are kind of making it up as we go, but it seems like as long as the player is still under a 2-way deal he should appear on the G League templates too - we don't remove NBA players at the end of a season. At least it feels like this should be the case for 2-way players on teams who have a dedicated G League franchise (in other words, makes sense for the Mavericks, but maybe not the Blazers). I realize a number of 2-way deals have been converted at the end of the season, but for the rest shouldn't they appear on both templates until waived? Rikster2 (talk) 15:45, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for taking this long to answer, it's been quite a hectic week. Anyway, I removed them because I assumed their contracts were up at season's end and wouldn't come back unless they were re-signed by said team (either to another 2-way or directly by the G League franchise) and since they were still playing for the NBA team, I kinda followed the same logic I did as when a G League player is poached by an NBA franchise or signs overseas; however, if you find more convenient to place them back in the templates (save the players whose contracts were removed the 2-way tag), I have no problem putting them back. He’s an international player, not a US high school draftee. There’s a reason it’s said “Spain” for years - not like he’s a new player. Compare how his NBA.com roster entry compares to someone like Dwight Howard Rikster2 (talk) 02:40, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

That doesn't matter, if he played in the US HS system, it should be noted just the same way as we do when international players go through the US college system, even if they fo their NBA debut years after graduating college or being draft-elligible. As I said, again, look at the case of LiAngelo Ball, who went overseas out of high school two full years before even being drafted. Literally the only difference between those two cases is their birthplace and in this context it's not a significant difference. No, he shouldn’t. That might be the most US-biased answer I’ve ever heard. The NBA makes a distinction between US players who go directly to the NBA and international players who happen to attend HS in the US - Gasol was not drafted as a HS player. In a space where there is ambiguity, we go with the official NBA.con roster variable. Hi! I saw that you made the page for Eli Pemberton and it got approved pretty quickly, I was just wondering if you had any tips or connections to get drafts approved or if there is something else I need to do? Because it allows for quicker, easier editing down the line, not just for me, but for anyone. Since league, team and number usually go hand in hand while editing them, it's just more practical to have them next to each other. Meanwhile, having the height and weight above "league", gives the infobox coding better spacing, again, allowing anyone to locate each of those sections quicker and easier. TBT teams are not considered a primary team for a player

Because the TBT is not considered a league and does not actually have guaranteed contracts, they are not used as a players listed team and are not included in the infobox. Many of the players are still under contract with other teams. Any information has to be added to the body of the article.
