Delaney-Edwards House[edit]

Nice work getting a pic of it, I wasn't able to. Do you think we can say it's in the Turner vicinity instead of Salem? Although technically I think Turner is within Salem's UGB so it's not exactly inaccurate to say Salem. Valfontis (talk) 00:56, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I do agree that when you're out trying to navigate with a map, Turner is a more descriptive way to state the location. But I suppose that the nomination/NRIS/SHPO all say it's in Salem because that's the postal address (confirmed at USPS.com). Given that, I don't see a strong reason to change the city in the table from Salem to Turner. At least until snail mail fades a bit further into the obscurity of yesteryear.... — Ipoellet (talk) 03:24, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that makes sense. Nobody has heard of Turner anyway. Valfontis (talk) 03:29, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

category: wars on the NRHP[edit]

I liked the idea of the category World War II on the NRHP. Are planning to do the same with the Revolutionary War, Mexican War, Indian Wars, Civil War, Spanish-American War, Korean War and Cold War? Einbierbitte (talk) 01:02, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have no plans to develop more war categories myself, but I would consider those to be entirely worthy additions to Wikipedia. Also, I don't think of it as a "war" category so much as a "theme" category: other such categories could include African American history, Women's movement, Industrial Revolution, Presidential sites, Arts, so forth... — Ipoellet (talk) 05:17, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Previously (see talk page for Category:World War II on the National Register of Historic Places), I asked about the name of the category itself. I still question the name, but I do like the concept and see value in having similar categories for other themes/wars, too. Maybe post a note at WP:NRHP for feedback? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:10, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP in PDX[edit]

Thanks again for your wonderful work about NRHP sites. I appreciate that you noted which properties are part of the Alphabet Historic District. Would it be appropriate to create an article about this district with a list of properties included? It would be nice to differentiate the district from other parts of NW PDX. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:48, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I thought I replied to this, but apparently I just composed a reply in my head and never actually carried through.
It would absolutely be appropriate to do a separate article. If it were up to me personally, I could go either way between (a) separate article because the Alphabet HD is only a part (less than half) of the NW District and (b) making the Alphabet HD a major section of Northwest District, Portland, Oregon because it is such a very important part of the NW District and closely identified in many people's minds. Either way, however, including a comprehensive list of properties directly in the article would be awkward: there are nearly 500 of them, and more like 650 if you include the "noncontributing" properties. Even with much smaller numbers, I think it might overburden an encyclopedia article to list out all the properties in an HD, rather than discussing at a summary level with examples. So I would not break out the Alphabet HD as a separate article based just on a list of properties - it should have some substantial narrative discussion of the district before it tries to stand on its own. Until then, I see the NW District article as filling the role of a stub for the Alphabet HD.
One thing I've started doing (here and there) is putting together comprehensive galleries of an HD's contributing properties on Commons, then linking to that from the WP article. Examples: East Portland Grand Avenue HD, The Dalles Commercial HD. I have the same thing in progress for the Alphabet HD, but far from ready for prime time, at my Commons sandbox.
Also, when a contributing property has its own WP article, then there definitely should be a link to it from the HD article's see-also section (or the NW District's article's see-also section, as the case may be).
I hope this answers your question and that I didn't rattle on for too long. — Ipoellet (talk) 20:06, 25 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. This is very helpful. Wow, 500+ sites -- I had no idea! It does sound like it would be worthwhile to have a separate article for the district, though I have no idea if/when I would get around to creating one myself. I'll add it to my ever-growing "to do" list. Thanks again. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:39, 25 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:HecetaHeadLighthouse.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Locator maps in PR NRHP section titles[edit]

Adding locator maps to the section titles of Puerto Rico subdivisions as you have recently done not only breaks the code that updates the progress page but also goes against well-established project practices. Although I quite like how the maps look, there's probably some wikipedia-wide policy against having images in section titles too. If you feel strongly about the images, feel free to revert me and we can have a discussion here or at WT:NRHP, but I am going to remove the maps from the sections so that I can run NationalRegisterBot to update the page. If you do revert me, though, please at least wait until after the bot runs. Thanks.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 04:41, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, well. I was half expecting somebody to object, given that I've never seen any approach quite like it anywhere on Wikipedia. At least your reason was a better one than somebody simply shooting down originality. — Ipoellet (talk) 21:35, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Weston[edit]

Hello, I'm the owner of the old post office you took a photo of in Weston, Oregon. Actually, my sister and I inherited it from our father who passed away suddenly in 2008. His dream was to turn the building into a museum for town history. We're going to make it happen. Just want you to know that I appreciate the work you are doing archiving historic places and buildings. I live in Oakland currently. If you ever need anything, please email me at jon.clifton@yahoo.com

HD in Beatrice, Nebraska[edit]

I see that you've just added several new NRHP sites to the list articles for Nebraska, some of which I'll have to go out and photograph.

One of the new sites that you added was the Beatrice Downtown HD in Gage County. For that one, I see that you added a photo to the list article, and created Commons:Category:Beatrice Downtown Historic District, populating it with a couple of photos that were already in Commons.

I assume that you had access to the nom form, so that you knew that the photographed block was within the HD. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the form myself, either by Googling or by clicking the link from the refnum within the list article. Could you tell me where you found it, so that I can get the boundaries and shoot the HD in more detail when I next get to Beatrice? Thanks— Ammodramus (talk) 03:29, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto for Crete Downtown HD in Saline County, if you could, please. Thanks. — Ammodramus (talk) 03:32, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to keep pestering, but I'm planning out an expedition to southeastern Nebraska, and I'd like to photograph these HDs (and also Schuyler Downtown HD in Colfax County). I see that you've illustrated the list articles and created Commons categories for all three of these, but I can't find the source that you used (presumably, the nom form). I can't really shoot the HDs without something like that, since I won't know the boundaries and the contributing properties of particular interest.
If you didn't have the nom form or something similar, and were basically assuming that "downtown Smithville = Smithville Downtown HD", then I think we need to revert as unsourced. I've shot a number of HDs whose boundaries weren't what I'd have expected from the name or the one-line description, and this experience strongly suggests that we hold off on illustrating articles and populating Commons categories until we've got sources. — Ammodramus (talk) 17:18, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I just got back from southeastern Nebraska. Not that the nom forms would've helped: it was overcast and gloomy during the time I was in Gage and near Saline County. (However, the clouds cleared long enough for me to shoot a newly-added church in the former; I haven't downloaded the photos yet, but trust that they'll turn out.)
It'll be a while before I can get back to the southeast corner of the state; I'll write the NPS and get the nom forms directly from them before I go. I assume that's how you got them. — Ammodramus (talk) 21:37, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Tanner House pictures[edit]

Oregon NRHP short stubs[edit]

Hi, thanks for noticing my small contribution of figuring out that a photo was incorrect, at Talk:Monroe State Bank Building and its county list-article.

I've been musing about the short NRHP stub articles in Oregon. There are currently 44 "NRIS-only" ones identified by this Petscan report. The total was 45 recently per wp:NRHPprogress. (None of those are "mine": back in November i expanded somewhat any NRIS-only ones created originally by me. I did that somewhat in conjunction with Wikipedia:The 50,000 Challenge/Pacific Northwest, which didn't really work out.) There are many more out of Oregon's 873 NRHP stub-rated articles that have just trivial reference to an Oregon state list, like this article did until i just added NRHP reference to it, although it is still very very short. These show within a NationalRegisterBot-generated list of articles with less than 325 bytes/characters of prose; a worklist of the Oregon ones could be created. Any chance you'd be interested in working through some or all of them, in a cleanup/expansion campaign, organized any way? --doncram 22:10, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List of U.S. national monuments[edit]

Hello, Ipoellet:

The reason I edited the link for Cesar Chavez Natl. Monument is that the article title itself doesn't have the accent marks. I left the accents on the right-hand side of the link, to make it correct in Spanish. But with accents on the LEFT SIDE, when someone clicks on the link they get: Redirected from César E. Chávez National Monument.

Do you know whether the title for the C E C National Monument article can be edited to add accent marks?? This would be the preferred way to address the issue!
