Photo Caption for Ruth and Gehrig
Anyone who can't distinguish between Ruth and Gehrig must have spent his entire life in a dungeon without TV, radio, books, or newspapers. Also, people are always identified left to right in a photo caption. It is absolutely unnecessary to include (l) and (r) in ANY photo caption.
There are a couple of guidelines for listing userboxes on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United States. First, just one userbox per school. Second, boxes listed there should be in Template space, such as Template:user UMD. For both of these reasons, I suggest you use the talk page to propose and make changes to the existing template instead of adding a new one. --NThurston 14:32, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Proposed replacement of University of Maryland userbox
Since only one userbox per university is allowed here, I'm proposing replacement of the current userbox, because:
the existing oversized userbox doesn't fit standard Wikipedia userbox dimensions
current userbox photo of mascot "Testudo" at the College Park campus is too small to be meaningful in a userbox
the proposed new userbox is more generic of the entire Univ-Md. system, not just the College Park campus
the University of Md.'s official logo features a stylized version of the Maryland state flag – by using only the public domain state flag in my proposed new userbox, we have a symbolic representation of the university without any copyright infringement. JGHowes 16:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Oskar Schindler
Hi. I'm very annoyed by some of your last edits in Schindler's article.
1) "As the advancing Red Army neared Poland in October 1944 ..." - The Red Army entered (pre- 1939) Poland in Jully, in the fall 1944 its advance threatened concentration camps in Silesia and southwest Poland. The original formulation was better.
2) "producing parts for V2" who could wrote such stupidity and why are you copying it? In Brněnec they made some components for the 37mm munition (the factory for munition was in Polička 20 km far from Brněnec).
3) "Those few who managed to escape from the transport trains were also sheltered by Schindler" Schindler never saved the escaped prisoners - all the Jewish workers (there were also Poles in forced labor and some German experts) were to Brněnec transported from concentration camp. See the table in "cs" article about Schindler. It's based on the book of Jitka Gruntová, who makes the research about concentration camp in Brněnec over 20 years. --Honzula 10:58, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but another conflict term in Schindler's Article: "Zwittau has since been renamed Svitavy" This is very common Sudetengerman statement, that the "German" places were renamed into Czech after WWII. Actually most of the towns, hills etc. in Czech lands have had both, the German and its Czech alternative (and vice versa). Only very unimportant places or places in ethnicaly "clear" areas have had only German (and were largely renamed after WWII) or only Czech form. The others you can easily identify - 1) they have similar pronounciation or 2) they are literal translations - Svitavy/Zwittau is the 1st option (historically older). I mean, Zwittau had its Czech name at least from begin of 19.cent. but the German name was prefered as 90% of town population spoke German. Honzula 19:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Pearl Harbor
Hello, just pointing out that a compromise that had been reached regarding the opening paragraph was that no comparative statements would be made for the Attack on Pearl Harbor page. This would allow for simplicity in reading, and not need a bunch of qualifiers in order to explain the comparatives. In your addition, we would have to add "one of the worst" in the 20th century, during peacetime, terrorist attack, until 9-11, etc. It would get cluttered when we then added comparatives to the Japanese results, to the value of the ships involved, to the loss of life here versus at Hiroshima, etc. We chose to move those details to lower in the article, so that details would not interfere with the first paragraph summary. Not advocating that you remove your change, just asking that you be aware of why your change got such a strong response. CodeCarpenter 16:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism
Please look into a user before reporting that they are committing vandalism. Your report of me to AIV was highly insulting. I have been an established editor on Wikipedia since 2004 and have not had any problem. Therefore, to suddenly find myself accused of "a massive vandalism campaign" is quite alarming. Please read and familiarize yourself with the guideline WP:AGF before accusing any others of vandalism.
It's an easy enough mistake to make, given that you were creating dozens and dozens of the same edits, some of which were questionable (at least they were to me! I'm not the expert, though). The editor above used the word "seems" in the report so it looks like they just reported you to WP:AIV for investigation where you were exonerated. - Alison☺ 21:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Royal Gazette Links
That's a good spot on Ewart Brown, I need to have a sit down and check them all when I have a chance. A few months back the RG changed its website provider, and the directory tree below the www.theroyalgazette.com page was changed, causing all links to sub pages from anywhere to broken. See my comment on the talk page - I think it's better, but it's still sounding like only Al Sharpton and company favored the cancellation, and I don't think that's a neutral presentation. FWIW, I couldn;t take the yahoos on both sides of the issues who were editing this and the companion Imus article, so I'm not inclined to jump in it again right now myself, but I do hope the articles will be improved. Because many logged in users and all anonymous (IP) users have no date preferences set. Remember, this encyclopedia is primarily for the readers, not the editors. YTo User:Masterwiki, Hi, after you log-in, click on "My preferences" at the top of the page, then scroll down to "Change password". Under that section, you'll see a box "Remember my Login on my computer". Check that and you'll always be logged in. Of course, this should only be enabled from your own computer that no one else uses. Otherwise, if you're using a public computer such as a school's, everyone will have access to your User account. Hi, I think that image you uploaded of the lighthouse near Florence is actually of the Umpqua River Light. They were built using the same pattern, but if you compare the two you will see that the workrooms are on opposite sides of the towers in relation to the direction of the ocean. Reply: You are right! It is indeed Umpqua River lighthouse. On the back of my photo (which was taken in 1991), I had simply written "Pacific Seacoast lighthouse near Florence, OR". A closer examination (including using a magnifying glass to read a small sign cropped out of the Wikipedia image), positively identifies it as the Umpqua lighthouse. Hi, yes I should have left a comment somewhere. I guess I was too busy clearing the backlog that I forgot. With this image I assume the photographer is the uploader. Or at least not an image somewhere found on the web. An image under a creative commons license is still under copyright, so the (c) notice is ok. I see the "for wiki" more as "I made it for wikipedia", not "only to be used on Wikipedia". Especially since the original uploader tagged the image with the first edit as a creative commons image. YReply Thx for the msg explaining your edit to Rex Humbard. Certainly good faith edits by anyone are always greatly appreciated. Having said that, however, Wikipedia is one of the Top 10 sites on the internet in terms of daily hits, which number in the millions. As such, we have to be careful that all Articles follow certain guidelines for quality. For example, all information has to be reliably sourced. In a nutshell, that means it must have been printed in a mainstream newspaper or website, etc., and cited in the Article's footnotes. (for details, see WP:RS). Also, Wikipedia is not a collection of "trivia". So although the Rex Humbard article does mention the unfinished tower, I don't see how adding a slang term to describe it adds to the Article's value as an encyclopedic reference. Here's my first set of suggestions...first, look at Arthur Rose Eldred and George Thomas Coker, both articles I wrote that are also GAs and single person BSA biographies. Make the Goodman article similar in scope and depth of info to these two articles. Then reference every well. When you get there, leave a note on the Goodman talk page and I'll look it over again. Ocean Grove
Hi, Alansohn- We seem to keep running into each other on various articles - small world, isn't it? :o)
I've reworded slightly Ocean Grove, New Jersey since your edit, to clarify that although the court quashed OG's status as a separate borough in 1921, the Camp Meeting Assn continued to exercise local ordinance powers for another 60 years (until the newspaper deliveryman sued the Assn in 1981 because he couldn't drive his delivery truck into the Grove on Sundays).

It sure is a small world. The original wording implied that that Ocean Grove was ruled unconstitutional as a municipality in 1981. No, I actually prefer <references />. The change is part of WP:AWB's general fixes, and for this reason I have turned off "general fixes" in my main "date maintenance tags" run. However, on balance, with the standard headers I decided that the type of article is more likely to benefit from the general fixes. I have also asked the AWB developers to remove this particular feature.

Great eye for GA
Hi, you seem to have a great eye for Good Articles.. Could you take a look at Victor G Bloede and let me know what you think. I'm certain it's not even close to a GA but would be nice to have some pointers on how to improve it the best I can. The biggest problem is the resources. What you see for refs is about it! Although I doubt with such limited references it will be a GA, but still I'd like to make it an interesting article to read. One of the biggest problems I'm having as far as researching his patents and inventions is that most of them where made in the late 19th century to the early 20th century and I cant find any references on them other than what is already written. Any idea where I could find such information on them so I can cite them? I'm sure having only a few references does not help its creditability.
You make a reasonable point. However, you may observe that while I'm the reporter, the disclaimer is an "editor's note". I might actually further suggest changes, since the story is supposed to reflect my reporting but not especially my "opinions" as the disclaimer refers to it.
