Hi, thank you for your message. The problem isn't you or me. The problem is that the guidelines are not written well enough. Looking at it now, this is a persistent problem. Susan Boyle, Captain Sully, Amanda Knox, Zoe Zane, Philip Markoff, etc. Captain Sully is probably the easiest case as he keeps being in the news months later. Zoe Zane is a case of a nude model college student who has not remained in the news.

My feeling is that the current guidelines is that Markoff is not worthy of an article because that's how we treat other similar people. Wikipedia likes "Murder of --" article titles but other encyclopedias do not do it this way.

Maybe Wikipedia should allow articles like this. The guideline could be "if someone is in the news a lot for a few days, an article is allowed, even if the person sinks back into obscurity".

Amanda Knox's article has been deleted. However, she's the same as Markoff. Lots of news. Her coverage is more extensive. She's a student, too. She's an exchange student while Markoff is a Boston University student. If there is a different deletion result, this shows that the deletion process and retention guidelines are not clear, that's all.

I am not too interested in Markoff so anything is fine with me. User F203 (talk) 14:46, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I think the policies need to be updated to be more congruent with each other. The Amanda Knox issue was quite a shocker as well, although she was a little bit on the trashy side and involved in a sex game it appears. I don't think she is notable at all. I guess I'm more struck by the sharp contrast between the image of Philip Markoff, and the attacks that took place. In the Knox case, it's a statistically possible story resulting from moral deviancy. This Markoff guy is straight out of the movie American Psycho. JameKelly (talk) 01:20, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
