Leic Snámha[edit]

Hi Jhonan, thanks for the message. I'm not quite sure I understand the problem with leac referring to a flagstone; it can indeed mean that, e.g. see [1]. I've never heard of leac meaning lake, are you sure about that? I put Leic because it is what logainm.ie has as the official name. Not that it's an RS, but Google shows far more results for Leic Snámha. It's interesting too to note the Four Masters' version.[2] That said, I see no problem with including Leac as an alternative if there's a reference for it. They are the same thing anyway, so the explanation isn't wrong Tameamseo (talk) 17:43, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jhonan. This is getting just a little confusing...Do you mean Léic or Leic? It's Leic at the moment isn't it, not Léic? A Google search turns up nothing much for Léic Snámha; what sources are there for it? Tameamseo (talk) 20:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you look at that link to focal.ie, léic is lake in the sense of colours rather than a body of water; (crimson lake etc). I think leic is a variant of the standard leac, so it makes little difference to the placename origin whether you say Leic Snámha or Leac Snámha. If there are references for Leac Snámha it can be put in as an alternative to the official Leic. I would say Léic Snámha is wrong though so unless there is an RS for it I suggest leaving it out....How about that? Tameamseo (talk) 22:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
