Welcome![edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first pages you edited on Wikipedia appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that page.

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can also ask for help at the TEAHOUSE and on IRC chatAgain, welcome! --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:15, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Draft:Government of Nebraska, and I noticed that your username, "DASCommunication22", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:15, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why I was banned. I am not representing a company or product with my username. DASCommunication22 (talk) 18:03, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website - I have blocked this account. Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a change of username of your current account here. The new username must represent only yourself as an individual and comply with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

I don't understand why I was banned. I am not representing a company or product with my username. DASCommunication22 (talk) 18:03, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. Apologies for the inconvenience. Is there any chance you are associated with the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services? Troutfarm27 (Talk) 02:34, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I am. I understand the rules regarding the username policy, I didn't think it was in violation because government bodies wasn't on the list. This page (and a personal page about him) is just a page I'm working on to surprise my boss with when he retires in July. This isn't a work project. This isn't a work account. DASCommunication22 (talk) 14:25, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've unblocked you[edit]

but that was an official sounding user name. Even so, you have a WP:COI. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:22, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Secretlondon: check my unblock. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:23, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All fine. Clear COI, and you need to check the licenses of images you are uploading to commons (some are pd, some are CC-BY-SA 4.0, some you are claiming to be the author of). Any organisation counts - local governments definitely do. Secretlondon (talk) 15:29, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Secretlondon I have no idea what PD and "CC-BY-SA 4.0" are. Jordis DASComm22 (talk) 15:45, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The licenses an image is under. I'll find some examples from your commons uploads to show you what I mean. I know works of the US federal government are public domain, but I think state governments aren't. Secretlondon (talk) 15:50, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
These are the images you uploaded to commons [1] 4 images all sourced from nebraska.gov. The image of Doug Peterson you've said is public domain File:AG Dougpeterson.jpg, File:Robertevnen.jpg you've said is public domain, File:Murante.jpg, you've said is your own work and you've licensed it under Creative commons BY-SA 4.0, File:Nebraska Justices 2022.jpg you've said is your own work and licensed under Creative commons BY-SA 4.0. To me they all look like they are the work of the Government of Nebraska, so we need to see if they have released them under a license we can use in Wikipedia. Secretlondon (talk) 15:58, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll do some digging to see if they are free use/what copyright they are under and follow up/take them down if needed. Jordis DASComm22 (talk) 16:03, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've gotten in touch with a few different people regarding those pictures. I have gotten approval from the Governor's office to directly upload these images to wikipedia and only wikipedia. Jordis DASComm22 (talk) 14:41, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Then we can't take them. We need all content to be be able to be used commercially, and by other people. I'll find you a link to our policy. Secretlondon (talk) 15:00, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Commons:Licensing is the best I can find. Wikipedia is based on the idea of free content - free as in freedom, not free as in money. All content can be republished by anybody, as long as they follow the project's licenses. Secretlondon (talk) 15:13, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for putting them up for deletion. In an ideal world they'd all be public domain, like they would be if they were the work of the US federal government. Secretlondon (talk) 01:01, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

COI policy[edit]

Your recent edits don't conform, in any way, to the COI policy of this encyclopedia. The policy is that "you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly" and to make edit requests on talk pages instead. If you do choose to edit directly, you must comply with all policies - including not using this site for promotion, properly citing sources, etc. Your recent edits have not done this. Moreover, the minor edit button should not be used for non-minor edits. Neutralitytalk 18:14, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @NeutralityNeutrality, Are you referencing my edits to "Pete Ricketts" page? I was still working on citing those edits made. Additionally I am not apart of the Governor's PR team. My position is with the Department of Administrative Services, a small agency in the state of Nebraska. I am going through and building our page, "Nebraska Department of Administrative Services" and the "Government of Nebraska" page. I was editing his page because I noticed it was missing the past 6 years of his accomplishments as governor. Am I not allowed to update the tenure section with that information? I didn't believe it was from a bias perspective but I will take a look and re edit if I can. Also I will not use the minor edit button inappropriately, I didn't know it's intention before. Jordis DASComm22 (talk) 18:37, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, What is the best way for me to edit some of these government of Nebraska pages? Am i entirely banned from editing because I'm an employee of the state? I want to surprise my boss with a going away present for when he retires this summer by making these pages. Is there any way I can accomplish that or am I too much of a conflict of interest? Jordis DASComm22 (talk) 19:03, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jordis. I'm jumping in here to give a heads up that paid editors are expected to make articles is to make them in the draft namespace and submit them through Articles for Creation. I've recently moved one of your articles from the mainspace to Draft:Nebraska Department of Administrative Services because it was made directly in the mainspace rather than put through the AfC process. The process is important because it allows for an editor without a conflict-of-interest to review the article prior to it going live.
For articles that already exist, feel free to use the {{requested edit}} template on the respective article talk page to suggest improvements to articles. This will allow for a Wikipedia editor without a COI to ensure that the edit is Kosher before deciding whether or not to implement it. It's fine to do small things on one's own (like undoing blatant vandalism or removing egregious violations of the biographies of living persons policy), but substantial edits should generally go through the edit request process.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on my talk page or to consult the English Wikipedia's guidance on conflict-of-interest editing.
Happy editing! — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 03:53, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
