Leaving? :([edit]

I hope you reconsider. Really sad to hear you are leaving, if that's the case. I'd like to wish you all the best, and hope you return after a good, refreshing rest. Guettarda 03:20, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't go, and you are leaving the same day as SlimVirgin and FloNight, making it a triple blow. Just come back and take a break if you must but please come back. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:04, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation Committee[edit]

First, my best wishes in whatever you decide to do; it is always sad when we lose contributors, but we must press on, wishing them good luck in their future endeavors. Know that you are welcome back here if you decide to return, and that if not, you will be missed.

Second, I have the responsibility to let you know, on behalf of the Mediation Committee, that your nomination has been delisted per your departure. If you return, please let us know, and it can be reinstated.

Reply[edit]

Per your comment on this page: What exactly do I need to exclude myself from? I'm sorry, but I didn't know that I needed your permission to engage in discussions or decide what should and should not concern me. And since you were kind enough to "enlighten" me, let me enlighten you now. Since you're so adamant in your claim that I archived the talk page to "hide" something, you should know that wasn't the case. I could care less whether or not my outburst to Eternal is on the front page of the Kelly Clarkson talk page, archived somewhere else, or on the jumbotron screen in Times Square. E.E. was under a block and since I believed that those IP addresses reverting the changes belonged to him/her, I reverted them back. As for the images, her/his reasoning for tagging the image I uploaded (that more then one image from a single telecast/program violated fair use) was the same reason I tagged those images. I also find it extremely funny how you paint him/her as a "helpless" (that's a good one!) victim. Like (s)he is a lowly editor that a pack of bullies just decided to gang up on for no reason. How considerate of you to look past her history of antagonizing edits and abusive, disruptive behavior. As for this comment: you all were looking for the first chance to institute a block, I don't know who you're referring to with "you all", but I don't have the power to institute a block. So you might want to approach the person you directed that comment to. I also don't know which edits you meant by this: (you know which ones). No offense, but I don't even remember ever talking to you before today. ... ??? HeyNow10029 00:37, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I reiterate: do you really think that you are in any position to pass judgement on the bahavior of another editor? You prance around here jumping from talk page to talk page discussing the unscrupulous nature of E.E's edits (how engaging ([1])). "A community ban"? Your hypocrisy astounds me.
I'll make my point succinct: No, you do not need my permission. However, you need to be told that you ought to exclude yourself from things that are way out of your league. You are just too supererogatory for you own good (I think I've told you this already on Talk: Kelly Clarkson). Never mind how I look past her edits... I do not, and as I've said, they have not been unprovoked by the likes of you etc. I have noticed how scheming your edits have been since the disagreement over Kelly Clarkson, but I advise you to yield. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 19:49, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Gosh, where do I begin? First of all on my "bahavior", I never once mentioned a "community ban", just thought I should let you know since you eloquently put that into quotations, you should double check before you quote people. And it's funny that you call me a hypocrite in the same paragraph you chide me for following E.E. around, when it's apparent from the nature of your arguments that you've been doing the exact same thing to me ... lol, if you ask me that's the pinnacle of hypocrisy. But I'm not the kind of person that makes blanket and rash judgments about people I hardly know or have never contacted before. And I need to be told that I "ought to exclude [myself] from things that are way out of [my] league". I'm sorry, but what are you referring to being "way out of [my] league"? I think you should stop telling users what they should and shouldn't do, I didn't violate any policies. Contrary to your belief, E.E. is not an innocent, and has done more then enough provocation to deserve a block, and if I can help somehow in enforcing that block, I'm going to do it.
Another thing, with all your talk about "passing judgment", "hypocrisy" and "good faith" this puzzles me:
Since you are so adamant in your claim that the IP is Eternal's, I thought that I'd let you know that its me, User: Journalist
The IP address you were referring to was this one69.196.21.5, that I had believed belonged to Eternal Equinox, as seen here. Now that you claim ownership of that IP address[2], I was wondering about this edit made under that IP address on May 30 at Eternal Equinox's talk page. Oh, let the bitch go. Wow, you certainly are in the position to be passing judgements and calling others hypocrites. At least I don't pertend that I'm hollier-than-though. HeyNow10029 23:07, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You know what? I take back everything I have just said. A couple hours ago, something happened that changed my outlook on the whole situation (and it has nothing to do with the post that you just made). I've just been enlightened and I now realise what a fool I have been making of myself. I no longer care what happens to E.E. I leave her to all of you, and believe me, she deserves all that she gets (if anyone wants to know what changed my mind, just e-mail me). Wow, I was blind, but... better late that never. BTW, I'm really not being sarcastic here. I really do mean this. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 02:13, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm ... OK, a little confused but judging by all the things Eternal Equinox has done in the past, not very suprised. blegh. Hope whatever (s)he did wasn't too cruel. HeyNow10029 03:50, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair Use Images on a Subpage[edit]

I'm curious if you still need User:Journalist/Sandbox. It contains two fair use images, which, as I'm sure you're aware, aren't allowed in userspace. Perhaps you might consider deleting or blanking the page (or at least the fair use images from the page). Thanks in advance. joturner 18:46, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope we can make peace[edit]

Perhaps I will see you at the University. You never know. Take care, sincerely. Goodbye. —EE

A short Esperanzial update[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

I just dropped in to say you a nice and big hello. --Bhadani 15:20, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with your reversion of what I consider to be academic boosterism in the lead -- it really needs to be toned down. (I know that you are going to be attending the U of T and are eager to emphasize its achievements, but a blurb like that in the introduction really lacks class. Currently, the University of Toronto page looks like it was written by a very insecure person. For instance, statements like "Academically, the university is consistently ranked as one of North America's leading universities" are definitely not NPOV. I urge you to reconsider. Look at the Harvard or McGill entry. Paulelastic 03:24, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted your edits. It is not an American-centered project, and the article should use Canadian English. If you have a problem with that, too bad. See WP:CIVILITY and WP:DICK. There is a policy on what spelling should be used, I'm looking for it. Ardenn 19:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, I would advise that you calm yourself in situations like these before you 'attack' a person and further quote rules that have nothing to do with the situation at hand. And what's this supposed to mean: "If you have a problem with that, too bad"? — you do not own the article. I too was looking at the convention for spelling and discovered that you were right, and was just about to revert it. Anyway, could you be a little less confrontational? It really goes a long way in ensuring that others do not snap back at you. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 19:24, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: In case you didn't know, the article that you quoted at me says "Telling someone "Don't be a dick" is something of a dick-move in itself, so don't bandy the criticism about lightly." Oran e (t) (c) (e) 19:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See also Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English. Ardenn 19:21, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In the future, I would advise you, since you are an admin, to read your policies and WP:MoS before you revert. It's your job to know these things, not mine. I'm not an admin. --Ardenn 19:37, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As an admin, I expect you to have higher standards than the rest of us. Ardenn 19:39, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't give me this bull. Admin or not, there is simply no way that someone can know all the policies in all areas of Wikipedia. All admins are regular users too, and they are expected to make mistakes now and then, so don't bring this to me. And, yes, it is also your job to know these things. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 20:56, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Hey—could you consider trimming down your signature a bit? It weighs in at a pretty hefty 416 characters; in many of your comments your signature is larger than your message [4]. Really long signatures can cause headaches for other editors, particularly when they try to follow and edit complex discussions. Many thanks, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 18:45, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's an interesting coincidence...I swear to you that Cyde and I aren't working together on this. Anyway, thanks for the trim. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 19:57, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Hello there, I was wondering if you would please modify your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. The general guidelines are that signatures shouldn't contain images, they shouldn't contain unnecessary internal links or any external links, and they shouldn't be unnecessarily long in Wiki source. The reasoning for this final bit is that overly long signatures tend to overwhelm the actual comments in edit mode, making it hard to track down and respond to specific comments. You can fix your signature by removing any images and external links, any unnecessary links (like links to Wikipedian organizations, articles, or subpages in userspace), and removing excessive color, font, and formatting code. Thank you. --Cyde↔Weys 18:46, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Congratulations[edit]

Thanks. I think I'm finding RC patrol easier now; I used to do it occasionally, but I'd get so bored that I could never do it for anything longer than a minute or so. I'll probably focus on other admin duties though, such as tricky page moves. Like I've said to other people, I just hope I don't break anything... :) Extraordinary Machine 22:39, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The classes are big, and that can be daunting. There will be overly keen competitive types in every class; my suggestion would be to avoid them. Hi Orane, no problem at all with some Celine samples, but I won't have a chance until at least Sunday night. It's Friday night here in Australia, and I'm going away for the weekend, but I will do them. I've got all the CDs..... I've been reading some recent comments at Wikipedia:Music samples and the general discussion is that samples should be 10% of the song, or no more than 30 seconds, so I'll work within that guideline. Your revert[edit]

Your revert at University of Toronto had re-inserted a spam link. That's why you should know better. Ardenn 02:56, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The answer is below, given by another user. There's three of us reverting the spam link. That is what says it is spam. Really, you should know better, or give up your admin privs. Ignorance is no excuse. Ardenn 02:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You could have more respect, and assume good faith when I revert spam links. Ardenn 03:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have no desire to be an admin. You could stand to be more civil as well. You're just full of angst and incivility. Ardenn 03:08, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And now you resort to personal attacks. I just don't understand why you couldn't see that it was a spam link. Ardenn 03:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'm starting to get the picture. However, what I want you to understand is that confronting people and proclaiming what they should or shouldn't know is now way to get your point across. I have not attacked you, but merely reprimand you for your childish behaviour, which you continue to show, despite my attempt(s) to reason with you. Be nice to people, and the attitude will be reciprocated. Attitude like this gets you nowhere (and I am going to assert this every chance that I get). Orane (talkcont.) 03:21, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not trying to be a hardass. I'm trying to get a point accross. You're an admin, and thus you are held to a higher standard. A spam link exists, you shouldn't re-insert it. If you're confused and don't know its status, then bring it up on the talk page. Surely you know how to use those. As for reprimanding, that's not your job. It's up to both us to to keep a cool head and find a common solution. Ardenn 03:24, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deal. I'll try to be less patronizing, if you'll try to use article talk pages. Ardenn 03:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Madonna[edit]

Just wondering what you think of the Madonna article - in my opinion it's turning into a fansite again and now has a fairly lengthy section about people she has allegedly dated. I notice you don't contribute there anymore and I wondered if you've given it up as a lost cause. I've tried SO hard to bring it into line but I'm very close to taking it off my watchlist and letting it degenerate back into a gossippy fansite. Just wondered what you think, as your judgement is usually crystal clear in these matters. Rossrs 14:34, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree on every point. I've trimmed the lead back - that POV kinda crept in without me noticing. I agree it's too verbose and I had some heated discussions with the person who added most of the Italian heritage section (he seems to have left Wikipedia). Now I'm engaged in a discussion with the person who is studiously listing every person Madonna ever dated (now that should stretch the article out to about 1000 kb) and his attitude seems to be that it's true (and I can search on the web to check his facts if I want to - I don't) and therefore it is ok to add it. I don't think these things add to the article, and if anything I think they detract, but they're there. When I feel more motivated I'll maybe have another go at it. I'm feeling a bit disappointed with Wikipedia lately as I seem to be spending more time defending myself on talk pages that editing articles, which is what I thought I was here for. Oh well, maybe tomorrow I'll feel less discouraged. Thanks Orane - you're always a great help. Rossrs 10:20, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
