I took the picture on the University of Iowa campus on Feb 20, 2006. I would like to make it so that use of the image outside of Wikipedia requires my approval. Please help me, whoever reads this. Hello KMSatoh202, welcome to Wikipedia. To answer your question as best i can (although i am not an expert), i do not think you can upload an image with the conditions you mention (see here). The whole rationale of Wikipedia is that its information is in the public domain and free to use and reproduce. To add restrictions to images where people must ask permission for reuse is against this principle. Therefore, if you do not want your image reproduced then you should not upload it. I'm guessing the closest license to this you can use is {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}—Attribution-Sharealike 2.5. This means you have to be credited (in a manner of your choosing) and people must maintain these conditions if they share the image with others. I hope this helps, however, let me know if i can be of further assistance. Also, if you want expert advice on copyright issues in wikipedia images, feel free to contact one of these editors directly. Hello to whoever reads this! I'm wondering how to make my user page interesting like so many of the others that I see out there. I have looked at their pages and noticed their templates such as {{user Chicago}} etc. I am looking for a page or something that would give me a bunch of available options that I can use. For example, I want to know how I can add the boxes for my college, language, browser, and more. I looked all over the help sections and searched in google but I could not find any answers. For now, I am forced to search other member's pages and find what templates they are using. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! KMSatoh202 07:50, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Those are called userboxes, and you can find all the userboxes made at WP:UBX. Have fun looking for the one you want. Ryūlóng 07:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This was a non-notable single according to the criteria set out in WP:Music. Perhaps Myspace would be a better location for this information rather than an encylopedia, until the criteria are satisfied. (aeropagitica) 23:02, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, it offends me that you are implying that Hello Goodbye is my band, or some sort of local act and that you are suggesting I instead start a Myspace for them. Hello Goodbye is a larger band in the European indie-rock scene. I am not part of Hello Goodbye, nor am I affiliated with them in any way other than the fact that I am a fan of their music. I actually searched Wikipedia for information regarding this band, but there was none so I decided to start an entry along with Hello Goodbye's releases. Maybe there was no information here because it was deleted due to it being so called "non-notable". Regardless, I don't think that I am the only one that has checked Wikipedia for information on Hello Goodbye or their releases. I believe that the articles on Hello Goodbye are relevant to Wikipedia, so I am re-starting the Cheesecake, Last Take article. Please do not delete it just because you are not aware of the band or their music. KMSatoh202 23:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article about the 7" single, linked to above, was deleted because it does not assert the notability of its subject. The band article was not deleted. I notice that the reposted article also doesn't assert any notability for its subject. Please see WP:Music for details. If you have any notable information that would make this article safe from deletion then you should insert it as quickly as possible. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs for details for including this information. Chart positions and sales figures would be useful for a researcher. By the way, straight reposts of speedily deleted articles are considered vandalism, unless you can supply the information required to assert notability. For this reason I will tag the article as a {{db-repost}}, which will give you some time to insert the information. (aeropagitica) 00:13, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted again before I even had the chance to add any information. Not that it matters anyway, since apparently for a band's release to be notable it has to have some chart position. Is this the case? I hope not, because I always thought that Wikipedia was a gold mine for information that was hard to find, but these "regulations" for articles on releases seems to make it difficult for a legitimate release to get a page without chart info and sales statistics. I guess I can understand some of the motives behind this, but while this can keep Wikipedia free from true non-notables, it also hurts bands and releases that deserve recognition. Anyway, does this mean that I have to wait for this four year old 7" to hit it big before an article can be created?KMSatoh202 00:33, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia isn't the place to advertise future success, it is a record of notable, people, groups, places, processes, objects, achievements, etc. Standards for music-related notability are available at WP:Music. Music and band-related articles will be reviewed according to these standards and kept or deleted as required. Waiting isn't an issue - if a single isn't notable then an article about it cannot assert any notability; non-notable articles are deleted with reference to the policies and guidelines. (aeropagitica) 00:39, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently we have a misunderstanding. You believe that I am advertising for future success, which I am not. The article for Cheesecake, Last Take was not an article for the song, it was an article for the physical release by the band. According to WP:Music the notability guideline for albums/releases is contraversial, citing that the general consensus is that if a musical group is notable, then "their albums have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." which would mean that the Cheesecake, Last Take release would be considered notable. It doesn't matter though, because you're an admin and ultimately you're the one that's going to delete it anyway.KMSatoh202 00:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would urge you to assume good faith on the part of other editors. Your last comment is entirely unwarranted. 'Future success' refers to your comment:

"...but while this can keep Wikipedia free from true non-notables, it also hurts bands and releases that deserve recognition."'

"...deserve..." is a subjective value judgement. Two or more editors can differ in their opinion of what is deserving, which is why the touchstone of policies and standards is available for a neutral decider in such matters. "...hurts" is an emotive word without any evidence to support its inclusion. Bands have many channels open to them to advertise their products; Wikipedia is a record of notability rather than such a channel.

I won't repeat my earlier advice about supplying reliable sources to demonstrate the notability of the subjects of articles. If they cannot achieve notability according to standards and guidelines such as WP:Music then they will be considered for deletion. If you have evidence that it can be rescued from such a fate then I suggest that you take your business case to a deletion review where it can be assessed by other admins. Regarding African Nights[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article African Nights, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned image, no context to determine possible future encyclopedic use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
