Why change infobox for E. J. Tackett ?[edit]

Can you explain why you changed the E. J. Tackett professional bowler infobox to a more generic (and less useful) infobox? (diff). —RCraig09 (talk) 05:46, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Because the infobox for bowlers, quite frankly, needs work. This is actually a better template format; the infobox for pro bowlers should be modeled after the infobox for sportspeople. That is, the pro bowler infobox should retain its original features, but also have the visual layout and some features from the other template. It should also have some more stats included, such as the bowler's nickname(s) and the style of play (stroker, tweener, cranker, etc.).

In fact, why don't we discuss how we can improve the pro bowler infobox? To be honest, that really looks more generic than the template that's on the article now.

Thanks for your reply. I think that Template:Infobox professional bowler definitely has more useful bowling-specific fields than the Template:Infobox sportsperson that you used, even if the latter has more fields overall. I think the better goal would be to improve the professional bowler template rather than avoid it; however, I've never edited a template and have a primal fear of doing so. Having made hundreds of sourced substantive content edits to the main bowling-related articles over the past four months, I think that infoboxes are the least of our worries. Thank you for your input and for wishing me good fortune. I do like the pro bowler template because of its bowling-specific details, but I'd like to improve it. I haven't edited a template either, but it doesn't hurt to try. I'll be sure to ask for your input. Be **extremely** careful if you decide to edit a template. Templates are different from normal, regular Wikipedia articles. Templates are used in many, many articles. Ship prefixes[edit]

You've been making edits deleting the prefixes of ships from infoboxes with the summary "OMIT THE SHIP'S PREFIX IN THE "NAME" SECTION OF THE INFOBOX.". 1) don't shout at people, but 2) standard practice is to include the ship's prefix in the infoboxes. In fact all examples in the infobox documentation includes the prefix. So please stop deleting the prefixes unless you obtain consensus for these edits. You may say that it is standard, but why don't you consider looking at the other infoboxes of most of the other ships, WHICH ACTUALLY OMIT THE PREFIX in the infobox? You are going to have to include the prefix for all of those ships, both active and inactive. If you think about it, that's a lot of articles that you will have to fix. And you thought I shouted? I don't think so. So don't ever tell me what I meant to do, do you understand me? You may be well meaning, but you were the exact opposite. Typing in all caps is considered shouting by most readers. As for fixing, no no intention to go and fix articles, but there's no reason to also go around and remove them without some kind of consensus. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS isn't a reason to make such edits.
