WPMED list of open tasks[edit]

You listed an article at the Wikipedia Medicine project's list of open tasks some months ago. It's not clear to me whether your concerns have been addressed. Would you please look at the article you listed, and if it has improved, remove it from the list of open tasks?   • Hi. Basically I was putting up an article about Eugen Bircher, whom I knew as a figure in the far right in Switzerland. However, in the course of research I discovered that he was a pioneer in Arthroscopy, although, given that my medical knowledge is non-existent, I had no idea how important he was in that field (or even what arthroscopy is). Therefore I was hoping that somebody who does know could fill out that section of the article to indicate his importance, his discoveries or whatever it is he accomplished in his medical field. This is the second issue of WikiProject Germany's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members of the project to keep up with new developments and coordinate new collaborative efforts. If you think anything should be featured in the next issue, please leave a note at the Newsdesk

Other areas where you can help
  • Assessment requests: Some open Requests for assessment need to be answered. To see new assessment requests as they come in, you can watchlist the assessment page.
  • More task forces and subprojects: As this WikiProject covers a very large topic area, it is helpful to add more task forces that focus on specific aspects of Germany. Currently, we have a Mainz task force, a Munich subproject and some joint task forces with other WikiProjects. Any project member is invited to start a new task force. Suggestions for possible topics:
    • Transportation in Germany
    • German politics (the political system of Germany and the biographies of its politicians)
    • German Democratic Republic

Be creative! If you have an idea, just suggest it on the project talk page (don't forget to watchlist it).

  • Categorization: Uncategorized Germany stubs need to be categorized

  • Cities and municipalities task force

The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here

  • Article Assessment:

There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. If you would like to help take a browse through Articles needing Importance assessment or Articles needing a basic quality assessment.

If I'm being honest I was never altogether happy with that category myself. I do feel a category for people who declared themselves as supporting the Nazis but who were not directly involved in Nazi Germany is useful but created that more as a placeholder, hoping in fact that it would spark debate. I'll contribute in a while when opinion has built up as I'm not wholly sure what the best solution would be.

I just responded to your comments in the CFD discussion. I didn't even realize that you had replied here (or there). From my experience in CFDs, it's much better to weigh in early, rather than waiting several days, as comments are much more likely to be read by the other participants, who may not check in again after the second day of discussion. What's new?[edit]

  • The project has recently experienced a complete redesign. The Outreach department has also undergone a major expansion, and this newsletter is the result of that.
  • The review department is currently under development, with several new proposals underway. Internal peer review had begun on the page of the project's Review Department. The department currently provides a centralized platform off all currently open reviews throughout the project (Featured Articles, Peer Reviews, Good Articles, Articles for Deletion, Categories for Discussion, etc.)
  • A new task force has been introduced: the Paris task force. Any users interested in contributing to the taskforce can join on the project page.
  • There is a current discussion about merging the French Communes WikiProject into ours. This communes project will be organised as a task force.

Nationalist Alliance[edit]

Hey thanks for the rewrite on the Nationalist Alliance. BNP/NF election results[edit]

The pages British National Front election results and British National Party election results were deleted last summer. As someone who contributed to one or both of those pages, I thought you might be interested in supporting their recreation. The grounds for deletion were that they were unreferenced (correct, but easily put right); they were unencyclopaedic (??? - no reasons given) and that they violated BLP policy (ridiculous, but which, by implication, means that any page that names an election candidate should be deleted). The deletion debate is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/British National Party election results. No contributors to the pages were consulted.

I asked the admin who deleted the pages to reconsider, but he refused. I have belatedly requested a Deletion Review (see Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 February 1) to which you may wish to contribute. I eventually managed to obtain copies of the deleted articles and have now referenced the entire content. Hi, Keresaspa, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron WikiProject! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles and content that have been nominated for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable, and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles and content to quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

Some points that may be helpful:
  • WikiProject Article rescue squadron's (ARS) main aim is to help improve Wikipedia articles and content. If someone seeks help, please try to assist if you are able. Likewise feel free to ask for help, advice and clarification.
  • Sometimes we are asked to help rescue articles by people new to our notability and sourcing policies. If the article is not fixable we can help explain why and offer alternatives. Sometimes editors who are new to Wikipedia may perceive the deletion of "their" article as discouraging. Encourage civility and maybe even {{welcome}} them if they have only been templated with deletion messages.
  • The Articles for deletion (AfD) discussion is where the concerns regarding each article are brought up and addressed. To be an effective member of the project you need to know how AfD works as well as how to improve articles. Introduction to deletion process gives a good overview and some good advice for newcomers to deletion.
  • Our primary work is improving Wikipedia articles and content. A more dynamic list with article links and descriptions are located at our rescue list.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to the list of translators available. Articles and sources that use non-English languages often need translation for those of us who cannot translate for ourselves.
  • Many important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is recommended that you watchlist it.

U+0027 to U+2019[edit]

Hello Keresaspa.

I am wondering why you made this edit. I don't disagree, but I am wondering what your reason is. It appears you have converted a Unicode U+2019 RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK to a U+0027 APOSTROPHE. Can you satisfy my curiosity? —fudoreaper (talk) 04:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll reply here, eve though this will cause a split thread. Okay, i understand your reasoning. (i actually mislabled the title of this section, i now realize). Anyway, they are both valid unicode characters, as far as i can see, though the U+0027 is commonly on US keyboards, and U+2019 is not. In my character map (using Ubuntu), the Unicode standard appears to have an official recommendation: "• this is the preferred character to use for apostrophe" But i have never heard of this, or even been aware that Unicode would make a recommendation like this any recommendation. I was wondering if you were having any similar thoughts. It appears not, but i just wanted to explain myself. I'll leave the page as it is now, an maybe do some more research on this. Oddly enough both versions look fine now, although my Internet Explorer had a pretty major update today and that seems to have fixed it. I don't have a particular preference either way for which version is used (in fact the whole subject is a bit beyond me) so whichever you prefer I'll be happy to go along with. Acción Española[edit]

Good work on this article for the most part, but I have to question this—"the new monarchy would be strongly authoritarian and corporatist in naure, showing a clear influence from fascism". I don't see why authoritarianism means an influence from fascism and also corporatism was widely accepted by many Catholics at the time as a way to avoid the extremes of capitalism and socialism (to an extent the concept of Christian democracy is related). Its not nessarily fascist influence, but rather the ultra-monarchist and Catholic nature of the organisation itself. - Yorkshirian (talk) 22:05, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pinochet fascist[edit]

Could you take a look at the Pinochet article and check the sources about him being a fascist? I am failing to see the corporatism prong satishfied for him to be fascist? Do you find the sources offered credible and reliable? thanks--Die4Dixie (talk) 05:50, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They're mostly OK, if a bit lacking in academic muscle - a few too many of them are using 'fascist' as a general term of abuse without thinking of a deeper meaning for my liking. Still I've removed and broken up the single reference into smaller ones and then added some opposing academic views in a new section as there is too much debate about the nature of Pinochet's regime for it just to say fascist from the get-go. Do yu have an opinion on the stupidly place (by my pointy self) Fascsm portal side bars. It seems that they are now enamored with them after having edit warred to keep them out.
