Why is November still the month that is showing?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 07:32, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

um yeah i understand u hating vandalism because i am a admin on some wikia's but i suggest that when u send someone a message u get the right ip. seeing how i have no effing clue what ur talk about and have never even heard a Gary wallace or what ever hs name was.... please take tis in cnsideration -- PATX —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.149.0.155 (talk) 20:07, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

If you are actually an admin on some Wikias, then you should be aware of your contributions page and see that this edit from your IP is vandalism. My warning was issued approximately one minute after the edit was made, so I was perfectly justified in doing so. —LOL T/C 20:51, 9 January 2009 (UTC) P.S. Please fix your spelling and grammar before posting next time; failing to do so would be an especially bad habit for a Wikia admin.

Thanks

Thanks for adding that verb dude :-) I do realize I need to educate myself better on grammar and sentence structure etc. I see you do an awful lot of edits on fixing up that kind of stuff. You said it didn't bother you, "I'm personally indifferent towards the existence of the period" but I could tell it was annoying you no end. I work on articles here as a way to relax and I took the picture of the Kings at a local show. I uploaded it and then used it in that article and gave it a caption I honestly thought was suitable. Anyhow, our discussion has helped me and those wikilinks you left on my talk page will be useful. I'll study up on just what constitutes a sentence and hopefully my editing will improve here :-) --Sting Buzz Me... 07:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

The following temporary injunction has been passed in Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Date delinking;

Until this case is decided or otherwise directed by the Arbitration Committee, all editors are instructed not to engage in any program of mass linking or delinking of dates in existing articles, including but not limited to through the use of bots, scripts, tools, or otherwise. This injunction is entered as an interim measure and does not reflect any prejudgment of any aspect of the case.

I wasn't sure if you were aware of this ruling, and since some of your edits fall into this area I'm letting you know. For the Arbitration Committee, Wizardman 02:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for informing me; I was not aware because I did not see this when I looked at MOS:UNLINKDATES. —LOL T/C 03:04, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Raps

A painful season... Chensiyuan (talk) 02:01, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Indeed. I've really drifted away from the basketball world since Mitchell's departure, which may explain why I've yet to finish the stats bot, game log script, or the seasons table inquiries that I planned to complete. I just hope that the Raptors get a good head coach and that JO gets healthy so that they have a chance of reaching the playoffs. —LOL T/C 02:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Edit summary oops?

There's no 'Links to disambiguation pages' section at MOS:DAB. --Geniac (talk) 18:09, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that's an oops right there; I meant WP:DAB. I realized that almost as soon as I pressed Enter, but I couldn't press Backspace in time. Too bad I can't revise my edit summaries. —LOL T/C 03:24, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

One edit

Hey man,

When possible, try to thoroughly figure out your edits to do 1 or 2 edits, rather than multiple small edits. It's hard to be going through them all. Just a friendly tip, good day! ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 04:28, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

You should be able to easily go through them all if you use the radio buttons on the history page. I mostly try to make only one edit (example), but frequently I don't see anything else I should edit until after I submit a change because having to check for potential changes for every single article I plan to edit would be extremely time-consuming. Furthermore, in high-traffic articles such as Nate Robinson this past hour, there is very little time to submit a change before an edit conflict arises. —LOL T/C 04:42, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry, I have that page watched (as I should, because I've been linking to it on the edit summaries of the major format changes). —LOL T/C 02:32, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah yes, watchlist. I figured you might not be on at the moment. p.s. - you said you can quickly reformat if necessary? That's cool - mr. programmer. Good job on the work ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 02:35, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Template:Infobox NBA Player

Hi, I am wondering if you could help me with some template issues since you are quite knowledgeable about them. I want the template to generate the NBA Profile link using the name parameter instead of the page name because when I use Infobox NBA Player on List of career achievements by Kobe Bryant, the NBA Profile link doesn't work properly. Thanks—Chris! ct 04:46, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, that reminded me to put the profile parameter into the documentation. —LOL T/C 11:12, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

That's okay. Have you skimmed over the relevant section at Talk:Left 4 Dead? In a nutshell, Valve has given the names of all the weapons except for the Uzi and pump-action shotgun. We cannot identify them in the article because it would be original research. —LOL T/C 00:45, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Temporary injunction and your use of my monobook script

Hi,

I am pleased to see that you have used my monobook script to remove the autoformatting or linking of dates or other functions; I hope you have found it useful.

This is to let you know that ArbCom has announced a temporary injunction against the "mass delinking of dates". You can still delink dates on an occasional basis; however, you may wish to be cautious and use the script only for its non-date functions until the issue is resolved by an RFC poll. You may wish to express your view on autoformatting and date linking in the RFC at: Wikipedia:Date_formatting_and_linking_poll.

Help with strange template on Template:2008-09 NBA East standings for example

{{#switch:{{{team}}}|CLE|CLE=bgcolor="#CCFFCC"}} See that? What exactly does this do? Look at that template source please. I tinkered with it, trying to change the color, removing it, switching it with the BOS one for example, and it seems to have no effect on the template - even it seems that the align center is the only important part of that line. Why is this here exactly LOL  ?
- and also, could you direct to two pages: 1. the original template of this switch thing, I could not find it by searching, and 2. wiki info for templates of some form that have the three curly braces instead of the usual two braces for templates. I hope I made sense, thanks man
~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 20:19, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

That parser function causes Cleveland's row to be highlighted when the template is called with "CLE" passed in as the team parameter: {{2008-09 NBA East standings|team=CLE}}, shown below.
#
Team W L PCT GB
1 z-Cleveland Cavaliers 66 16 .805
2 y-Boston Celtics 62 20 .756 4
3 y-Orlando Magic 59 23 .720 7
4 x-Atlanta Hawks 47 35 .573 19
5 x-Miami Heat 43 39 .524 23
6 x-Philadelphia 76ers 41 41 .500 25
7 x-Chicago Bulls 41 41 .500 25
8 x-Detroit Pistons 39 43 .476 27
9 Indiana Pacers 36 46 .439 30
10 Charlotte Bobcats 35 47 .427 31
11 New Jersey Nets 34 48 .415 32
12 Milwaukee Bucks 34 48 .415 32
13 Toronto Raptors 33 49 .402 33
14 New York Knicks 32 50 .390 34
15 Washington Wizards 19 63 .232 47
Without the #switch, Cleveland's row wouldn't be green.

Sorry to bug you, but I got a template inquiry for you. I recently add new parameters {{{height_footnote}}} and {{{weight_footnote}}} to the template, but it causes error (see Michael Jordan). I think the problem arises because the parameters are not optionable, but I am not sure how to fix it. Could you look into this for me? Thanks—Chris! ct 01:40, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

That's no reason to apologize. Pipes make them optional; the pipe in {{{height_footnote|}}} says that if height_footnote is not given, then display the text between the pipe and the three consecutive right braces—which is nothing. I hope that fixed the problem. —LOL T/C 02:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

basketball picture help

Hi LOL, I am not experienced or knowledgeable in doing this, so I was wondering if you could do it, even with using the fair use of pictures. Roger Mason (basketball) has an old Washington Wizards picture and not an update Spurs picture. Can you find a good one and put it on please, or get someone to do it? thanks ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 06:20, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not very good at finding appropriate images. I think fair use is unacceptable because of the 1st policy of WP:NFCC: a free equivalent could be created for Mason. Some of the guys at WT:NBA would be much better than me at fulfilling the request. —LOL T/C 06:44, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
thanks a million LOL, I'll forward that to them pronto. Keep up the good work :) ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 01:10, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:NBA Year

Hi, I got another template inquiry for you. This time is about Template:NBA Year. I want to make it optional so that the template can show year only format and year to year (eg. 1997–98) format. Thanks.—Chris! ct 19:43, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Two questions:
  1. How about making it so that only one mandatory parameter is required? (e.g. {{nbay|2008}})
  2. How would you want to call the template when specifying what you want displayed? For example, {{nbay|2008|start}} and {{nbay|2008|end}}? Or {{nbay|2008|disp=start}} and {{nbay|2008|disp=end}} Or something else? —LOL T/C 23:26, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Question 1: That is a good idea, but since this is already in use, then we have to fix all those articles.
Question 2: That is up to you, I think.—Chris! ct 05:27, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

{{NBA Year|1998}} turns into 1998–99. instead of 1998–1999, it just does 1998–99. -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 02:08, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps we should ask LOL to add that function as well.—Chris! ct 02:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible to make the seasons 1946 to 1949 turn from NBA to BAA, as it used to be called the BAA? Sorry for asking to do so many things, but this will definitely help. Thanks in advance. -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 05:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I wish I could do these myself, but obviously I don't know how :).—Chris! ct 05:50, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Also just wondering if start/end and nolink can be made compatible. You don't need to do this, this is jut for my info.—Chris! ct 05:54, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
I removed the start/end #switch for the nolink code because I thought that they would be completely useless. Why don't we just type in four numbers? —LOL T/C 05:59, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok—Chris! ct 06:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Damn you should get something for this... -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 06:58, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Should we make a general template that the NHL, IPHL, etc. can also use? —LOL T/C 05:52, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
You mean a template all sport leagues can use? Or individual template for each?—Chris! ct 06:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
On second thought, I'll scrap that idea because it'll slow down the template and I'm not sure how much. Check the doc for linking to BAA seasons. —LOL T/C 06:25, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Surprise!

The Minor Barnstar
This is for all the (minor) work that you have done to Template:NBA Year, that most of us cannot configure. The template is now probably compatible with any kind of wikilink to an NBA season, all because of your (minor) effort. Hope you'll stay in the future, and happy editing! -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 06:58, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Gee thanks, you guys should keep asking me for (minor) template help. :P —LOL T/C 07:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I got a problem when I tried to implement this template in NBA Sportsmanship Award. It causes some kind of error in the formatting (see here). I double checked several times but fail to see any mistake. Could you take a look? Thanks—Chris! ct 02:07, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Apparently SRE.K.A.L.24 fixed it. But could you explain to me what I did wrong?—Chris! ct 02:11, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome, and Chris, I think you could tell what was wrong from the difference of the last edit. Should we put something on the doc like this:

{{nbay|1999|start}} || [[...]] ☒N

{{nbay|1999|start}}

| [[...]] checkY

-- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 02:30, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

But why? The two formatting is basically the same. It should work in both of them.—Chris! ct 02:36, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I think I've fixed it. I forgot that I can only put line breaks in templates, not in links. Apparently for the latter, it counts as two lines, causing the double bar to not work. —LOL T/C 16:48, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:NHL Year is now using the same coding format. -- [[SRE.K.A.L.|L.A.K.ERS]]call me Keith 18:53, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey LOL, you're probably on point with this, but some playoff matchups, such as the Celtics vs Bulls in the NBA playoffs will need at least a 5th game. And I couldn't find how to make that show on the template. On the Template:2008–09 Boston Celtics playoff game log, for example. Please inform, thanks! ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 02:40, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Just add another row and fill in the cells according to the schedule. Done in this diff. —LOL T/C 04:18, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh my gosh lol. thanks, night -- oh but you put May 2 why? It's April 28 for game 5 CHIBOS, hmm... ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 05:27, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Oops. —LOL T/C 05:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

div?

Hi LOL,

What does </div></div> do? I see it at the end of the Lakers Playoff template, for example. And for future reference, where can I read about these commands used on wikipedia that are enclosed in these < > ? Thanks ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 04:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't know what the div closing tags are doing there, but you can find info on HTML tags in Wikipedia at m:Help:HTML in wikitext. —LOL T/C 04:11, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah nice idea. I see it there. Looking at the history of the Lakers playoff template, I see originally there had been some strange format here and such, but that was changed to just show the nba templates we have, so that end div closing tag can be taken out, which they should have when the div class tag was taken out.
Thanks, and also I wanted to ask you if you could take a look at a problem I'm having on my computer in playing a certain game. Is there a way I can send you a private message or e-mail (a link to the forum where I asked the community too) ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 04:20, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm probably not the best person to ask for technical support, but why don't you post the link here? —LOL T/C 04:36, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
ok lol. It's this ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 04:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

np. I'll find an answer someday. Thanks ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 11:15, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I am wondering if you could help me add an optional hide function to Template:Basketballbox. I would like to have an option of hiding the game stats, like those in 2009 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs. Thanks.—Chris! ct 21:32, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Exactly which information would you like to have hidden? This is more of a design problem than a programming one, but I think I can do it anyway. —LOL T/C 00:53, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Just show the date, recap link, team, score, venue and TV channel. I want to hide everything else, including scores by quarters, points and attendance.—Chris! ct 01:05, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, the collapsible tables don't seem to be as straightforward as I recall, so it would take a while for me to get them working; I'm currently occupied with academics so I may only be able to get it done next weekend. —LOL T/C 04:07, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure, do it when you have time.—Chris! ct 22:04, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm finding it hard to retrofit the functionality without any distasteful side effects; at my sandbox you can see how {{{TV}}} is pushed down if your browser is small enough, the width of the columns change when you hide/show, and I need to put {{{time}}}, {{{attendance}}} and {{{referee}}} on another row. —LOL T/C 17:31, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Template problem?

Hi LOL,

I'd like if you could answer this question and tell me how I can myself resolve it - so I can actually do the edit, for practice's sake. See Template:2008–09 Boston Celtics playoff game log - I just updated tonight's final game with the Bulls - then after, I put in what I had drafted for the Orlando Magic series matchup - but the columns are the wrong width, I even tried testing edit previews with info put in, but the, for example, score column is very narrow - and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The original base template has the width at 5%, whatever that means. All the widths don't add up to 100%, so I'm guessing 5% is just a notation for a type of width ratio or such. Anyway, what am I missing and how can I fix it? Thanks ~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 04:14, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't know how to quickly fix that; I'd experiment with the widths until I get it right, but I think that after adding a few completed games, the table will look normal. The "If necessary" cells are also contributing by stretching out the Record column. The same problem can be seen in the season game log, where October's score column is narrower. —LOL T/C 12:06, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Righteous. Thanks for getting back to me on that. Maybe I should but a * to indicate if necessary, instead of writing it out... Yup - I should have known that if necessary was squeezing the table. I played with it, removed it, took a test-large score - it's fine.
~ GoldenGoose100 (talk) 17:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
