April 2009[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: your username is nearly identical to the website you are linking. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Alexius08 (talk) 23:21, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I have reverted your link additions to the Boston Marathon and Pittsburgh Marathon articles on the basis of inappropriateness per WP:ELNO, prohibitions #6 and #1. Also, please pardon me for pointing out that your spelling on the website ("Your not logged in") could use improvement. Hertz1888 (talk) 00:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. You will be blocked from editing the next time you add inappropriate external links, as you did with this edit to Pittsburgh Marathon. Alexius08 (talk) 00:54, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The link I added back is a link for an interactive course map, why can't that link be added? Logthatrun (talk) 01:06, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That kind of thing is spamming, and we don't permit. Wikipedia is not a venue for advertisements and publicity for your company. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:49, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you use Wikipedia for advertising, as you did with Pittsburgh Marathon, you will be blocked from editing. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:53, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because it has been identified as an account used for promotion of a company or group, with a username that implies that this has been done by that company or group. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.

This kind of activity is considered spamming and forbidden by policies, and also violates our username policy.

However, if you feel that there has been a mistake in your blocking, please appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below or email the administrator who blocked you. Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Please check that your new username has not already been taken by checking this list.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

This user stated here that he did not realize that he was unallowed to have his username be his company, and asked if he could change it. He also doesn't seem to realize that this is the proper way to request to be unblocked, so I'm doing the courtesy for him. In looking at the things that have caused him to be considered a spammer, one realizes that his additions were actually helpful and not meant as advertisement. I hope that he will read this and choose a new username. -- DrDoog (talk) 01:13, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Thanks, DrDoog for trying to help. However, the main issue here is that he seems to be violating the conflict of interest rules. Logthatrun, you've already acknolwedged that you work for or own Logtahtrun.com, so your links are in fact considered spam on Wikipedia. If you want to be unblocked you will have to agree not to do this any more. See WP:BESTCOI for the kind of activity you would be allowed to do regarding your company. Also, if you do want to change username, we need to evaluate your new username choice before that can be approved. So please reply on these two points: about whether to continue adding these links, and about the username. Mangojuicetalk 14:20, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I think we need to see a request for a new username and agreement to follow our COI guidelines before unblocking. Dougweller (talk) 13:29, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
