Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. Please refrain from doing this in the future. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you! –Gunslinger47 23:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Using talk pages[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia.
While we appreciate that you enjoy using Wikipedia, please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a social network. Wikipedia is not a place to socialize or do things that are not directly related to improving the encyclopedia. Off-topic material may be deleted at any time. This message is not meant to discourage you from editing Wikipedia but rather to remind you that the ultimate goal of this website is to build an encyclopedia. Thank you. --Kateshortforbob 13:04, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages[edit]

Hey! Thanks for your message on my talk page. No need to apologise - the purpose of talk pages can be a bit confusing! Talk pages are usually for dropping messages to other editors, just as you did on my page. Most messages are about articles - asking or answering questions about articles you've worked on, notifying others about articles or changes they might be interested in, or discussing other Wikipedia stuff. Other editors might also give you awards on your talk page. You can also have The Signpost, Wikipedia's newspaper, delivered to your talk page, by adding yourself to this list. The reason we discourage social networking at WP is because there are lots of other places you can do that (like MySpace, Facebook etc.), but there is only one Wikipedia! (Well, there are lots in other languages as well). I will leave some links on Ichliebezuko and VampiricCat's pages which will hopefully help them (I wasn't sure which friend you were talking about).

If you (or your friends) need any help using WP, you could try the Help Desk, or put {{helpme}} along with your question, on your talk page. The adopt-a-user program is also available to help inexperienced editors, or you could check out the List of things you can do - I started out fixing spelling mistakes. I'd be happy to try to help if you need anything - just drop a message on my talk page. Thanks and have fun editing Wikipedia! --Kateshortforbob 23:14, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Hello. You asked on my page how you can get adopted. Just go to this page for info and to put yourself on the list of people waiting to be adopted. A pyrate's life for me... (talk) 18:20, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!
Congratulations on your recent adoption, Lover of the sand, and welcome to Wikipedia! I saw that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. Being an experienced editor myself, I accepted your request. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the person to see about it - just leave a message on my talk page. Remember, I am willing to help you and make your time here more enjoyable. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have, and remember to "be BOLD!"- I'm here to help you; no question is a stupid one. In the mean time, here are some pages that you might find helpful, in case you haven't already gotten the official welcoming:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome and congratulations!

Tell me if you need anything, okay? Cheers, Lex T/C Guest Book 00:42, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

For some userboxes, go here. See ya. A pyrate's life for me... (talk) 16:42, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I tried to give you a link to this page, but something went wrong. Anyway, there it is. Also, congrats on being adopted! :)

Gaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!******* (total frustration) Just go here and click on the little link on top of the page that has an arrow pointing left and it goes to the info about making userboxes & stuff. A pyrate's life for me... (talk) 16:52, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some concern about your editing habits...[edit]

I should probably tell you the fact that there are several editors who are concerned about your future editing on Wikipedia. You're treating the project like it's a social website, which it isn't. Wikipedia is, and always will be, about writing an encyclopedia. Yes, there are exceptions to this, such as userboxes and personal essays.

Quite frankly, you and your friends need to focus on editing the encyclopedia. Leniency in regards to userspace comes with valued contributions to the project, of which you've made very, very few (for example, I've got about 10 or so subpages, but I've also got over 900+ solid mainspace contributions [1])

I wish to see you stick around as an editor and spend your copious free moments in improving the encyclopedia, but continuing to treat Wikipedia like a new MySpace or Facebook is a sure ticket to a short drop and a sudden stop, so to speak. Consider this a friendly but stern head's up. The same happened to me, you know. [2]

Re:Userboxes[edit]

I use tables to put my userboxes (see User:Alex Roggio/Userboxes) because of the exact reason you had problems. The userbox template doesn't work well, and wikitables on Wikipedia aren't meant to be next to one another. I guess this will be resolved soon. Idea[edit]

Maybe you can improve articles about people you like! Cheers and happy editing. Another suggestion is User:Suggestbot. Cheers, BoL 00:22, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adopting a page[edit]

This doesn't exist, but it sounds like a good idea. You could propose it, but you must make sure everyone understands that you aren't trying to go around WP:OWN. Lex T/C Guest Book 00:43, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lover of the sand, and thank you for your contributions to Sweeney Todd-related articles. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :-)

I've been noticing lately that you've been editing a large amount of pages in the user talk: namespace, but few in the mainspace. I know you've been told this before, but please remember that Wikipedia is not a social networking site, and that we're here to build an encyclopaedia, not overly chat with online friends. To learn about how to help build Wikipedia in a constructive manner, see Help:Editing, WP:YFA, WP:IA, and Wikipedia:How to edit a page, and if you need any help or advice with editing, feel free to contact me on my talk page!

Message from WikiProject Emo[edit]

Hello!

You may be interested to know that WikiProject Emo has recently undergone a major revitalization. Please visit the project page to see our new look and check out some of our helpful new features, such as the Assessment Department and the Collaboration of the month.

We are currently holding a roll call to help gauge how many active project members we have. Please visit the project's talk page and add your signature to the roll sheet to express your continued interest in the project. Also, if you have not already done so, please take a minute to add your name to the Participants page along with a brief summary of your emo-related interests, so that other project members will be better able to collaborate with you. If you do not add your signature to the roll sheet by March 31, 2009 your name will be moved to our list of inactive members. We may also take the liberty of removing the project userbox from your userpage if it appears there, to prevent you from automatically appearing in Category:WikiProject Emo members. Of course you are free to rejoin the project and re-add the userbox at any time if you would like to become active in the project again.

Thank you and we hope you will continue to support WikiProject Emo!
