Win streak

Hi, welcome, and thanks for your very good work on the Baseball win streak page. I've put in a request for semi-protection of the page because of the edit warring, and this may affect you as a new editor, which I apologize for. When (if?) that protection is granted, and if it does exclude you, please continue by requesting changes on the talk page (in the meantime please continue editing on the article). Did you see the talk page and the addition to the 'See also' section about the 84-game win streak by the 1869-1870 Cincinnati Red Stockings? I think that's really an interesting story, and would make a good film. Good to 'meet' you, and hopefully you'll stick around both the page and Wikipedia. Thanks for the kind words. I am guessing the edit warring is between Giants fans that want to preserve their position at the top and remove any mention of intervening ties, and Indians fans who want them to be on top and have teams with ties removed. I think the table was fine as it was - just we should make clear there were ties (which was common before 1950) and annotate the streaks as they are so people can decide for themselves which to consider the record. I do have some edits in mind that I think would improve the page. I think the carat ^ denoting ties should be on the number of wins not the team name. I think an interesting edit would be to the 2nd paragraph to note both teams with 21 wins are the same team - something like "The Chicago Cubs franchise has won 21 games twice, once in 1880 when they were the Chicago White Stockings and once in 1935. I think when a tie occurred after the first win and then the rest of the streak is consecutive, that could be noted so you can see the 1880 White Stockings won 21 (with tie) but also 20 consecutive. These are bigger edits and I was thinking to wait for the Indians streak to end so the warring stops. Let me know your thoughts on any of those edit ideas. I have saved a copy locally since people are messing up the page. Thanks for the tip about the 84 game win streak - interesting - though that is a different league. The "modern era" of baseball is usually referred to after 1900 but the "National League" started in 1876 so it seems fine to include the White Stockings streak of 1880 - they are truly the Cubs in the same league we have today.Lschlenger (talk) 12:38, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi, moving this here for the same conversation. Some good ideas, although I'm not good with code. Please continue, even if the page is semi-protected you may slip through, and for sure (I think) will be autoconfirmed in a day or so and can edit it directly. Maybe move your good ideas in the above message to the article talk page, for wider comments. There is an edit discussion on the talk page about if the records before 1903 belong on the list, of course they do (as you describe) but some editors are suggesting changing it to fit the 1903 concept. Yes, the 1869 Red Stockings didn't play in the "Major League", but their formation and win streak would still make a good film (Moneyball, 1869 ?). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:16, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
