Requests page message moved

Hi Lstanley1979, thank you for working on GOCE copy-edit requests; it's appreciated. I've moved the message you left at the GOCE Requests page here to the requester's talk page here so I could archive the request and remove it. Requests and any accompanying comments are quickly removed once the copy-edit is completed and the request is archived. Thanks again. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:37, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Of course - sorry. Will do that there in future. Presumably it's also worth leaving it at the article talk page. LS1979 (talk) 20:39, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
You can do that if you wish; I assumed you intended the message for Cloudz679, that's why I copied it to his talk page. We like to archive requests quickly, otherwise the Request page ends up looking like this one. ;-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:55, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Understood :). LS1979 (talk) 09:09, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Lstanley for the swift copy edit. It has made a welcome improvement. I appreciate the time you put in. Thanks, C679 22:18, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Actually, the article will be expanded. I was busy with Durga Puja celebrations. So, I thought to request for c/e but, I was edited very fast. Well, I'm going to request again, when I'll be expanded in few days. I'm aiming for above 80 Kb expansion.—Prashant 13:10, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Cool. Let me know when you've added more and I'll take a look at it again. LS1979 (talk) 13:43, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Deleted article

Hi Lstanley1979

I am surprised that you deleted the article on International School in Bishkek [1] because it provides accurate information about an international school that is of interest to parents investigating life in Bishkek. Similar pages exist for other schools in Bishkek see [2] and [3] I am a parent at the school and trying to write an objective review of the school which will be helpful to other parents investigating Bishkek. David1000000 (talk) 02:38, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi David. The piece read like an advertisement. Wikipedia isn't a directory of information; as I understand it (and as someone else has already explained to you) there needs to be something notable about the school per WP:N. Additionally, I nominated it but I didn't have the final say over deletion; it's been removed by an admin. LS1979 (talk) 07:03, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Regarding Motivational Speaker Doug Dvorak

I am still in the process of adding more information and citations to the Doug Dvorak Wikipedia page. Doug Dvorak is a popular and passionate motivational speaker and has made a large impact within this profession. He has spoken in every state of the United States and over 100 countries.

Doug is also a member of many speakers bureaus (which are still being added to the Wikipedia page), has many speaker designations and awards (which are still being added with citations to the Wikipedia page). He has also authored and co-authored several books, one of which has been a best seller.

His presence on Wikipedia (The Free Encyclopedia) may seem promotional, but it is all valid and important information for those looking to see what a motivational speaker is and examples of professional motivational speakers. Please note that this is not an attempt to strictly advertise Doug Dvorak's services of speaking on Wikipedia, but is to document his importance as a person in the world as motivational speaker, author, co-author, business owner, mentor and more.

I believe this page deserves more time to build and grow before you schedule it for speedy deletion. I only had a small amount of time to work on it and am continuing work on the Wikipedia page to show his importance and value to the world throughout the rest of the month. Additionally, others will be invited to help improve the accuracy and validity of the data that will show on Wikipedia - however this will take time (and this page was marked for deletion less than 2 hours after it was created). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wes6000 (talkcontribs) 10:59, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Wes: thanks for dropping by. Please make sure that the sources you have for Dvorak meet WP:RS and look at the notability criteria in general. What you say about promoting the work of motivational speakers in general can be done elsewhere; Wikipedia does need criteria for notability that don't involve solely trying to raise awareness of an issue. Many pages do need time to expand, but the sources have to be well-researched and prove notability, rather than act as a springboard to improve the notability of your subject through Wikipedia itself. Dvorak needs to be discussed in other reliable secondary sources before he can have an article (that is, sources which have reasonable editorial control and are not self-published, promotional or blogging).
Looking at the motivational speaking article itself, you may want to improve that article as well, because it is also poorly sourced regarding academic or editorially-controlled works about the modern business (for example from reputable newspapers or journals). One of the sources is Doug Dvorak's own website, and the other academic sources relate to Roman oratory rather than the modern concept. If you have some good secondary references, it would be nice to have that article brought up to encyclopaedic standard. LS1979 (talk) 11:16, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Binagady Mosque

Hi, what do u mean by it doesn't tell that article is needed? This will be one of the biggest mosques in Caucasus. --Xoncha (talk) 12:00, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Xoncha - I think I might have tagged it in error, given it's still under construction. Re-considering the sources, I think you're right. Apologies for the mistake. LS1979 (talk) 12:06, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for looking at the draft! What do you suggest I do in order to get the page created? It is very difficult to find viable sources for the film as it has limited publicity, etc.— Excelsior16 (talk) 15:39, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

The problem with the film only having limited publicity means that it probably won't fulfill the film notability criteria just yet; not every film in production will. Although it's entered principal photography, it simply may not be notable enough for Wikipedia until it's been released, reviewed and written about beyond blog articles. Have a look at WP:NOTFILM, particularly the section about future films, for what you need to get an article inserted before a film's release. LS1979 (talk) 18:45, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

KOKOON Boutique Without Borders

Hi Stanley, I have no problem deleting the subsidiary brands section, but I am curious as to why that section suggests advertising? The subsidiary brands are no longer operational, so it's merely speaking to the history of the company, which I think strengthens the notoriety. For example, Macy's lists their private brands. It sounds like you've done a lot of editing, so I'm sure you know best, but I'm curious for future articles.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amatrejek (talkcontribs) 14:18, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello maam! Thanks for offering help beyond the GOCE. While I appreciate that, you seem to be unfamiliar with the manual of style and the featured article criteria. A few other editors have raised their concerns over the blanking of contents from the lead. Considering the article is a FA, I'm reverting the edits you have made and also removing the 'GOCEinuse' template. After taking a look at the MOS, reconsider if you would be able to meet the guidelines. If you can still help, then I would suggest taking a copy of the wikitext to your sandbox where you can proofread at your own pace. When you are done, we can arrive at a consensus with regards to the FA criteria and make changes if necessary before moving the edited version to the mainspace. Btw, when you work on an article, consider leaving a InUse or Under construction template in the article in addition to the 'GOCEinuse' template. Thanks. -- Sriram speak up 06:19, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Sriram. I apologise for that. That's a good idea. LS1979 (talk) 06:31, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Not a problem. I was just concerned that some editor may find it against guidelines given in MOS and FACR, and request a FA review. -- Sriram speak up 06:49, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
@Sriram Vikram: Made a comment on the thread on your page. There's some other comments on the wording in the plot summary, including 'pesters', which (to me) more implied 'begs' than 'forces'. LS1979 (talk) 07:03, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I have replied there. Feeling excited that maybe I could pickup a thing or two about correct British English from your copyedit. -- Sriram speak up 07:13, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi! The purpose of adding a 'GOCEinuse' template is that, you might not be able to copyedit an entire article in a day or two and under such circumstances, where you are halfway through, you would have proofread only a part of the article, say two-thirds of it. Without the template, other editors may make edits to the section you have already copyedited which defeats the purpose as this means you have to copyedit those sections allover again. Now, having resolved to continue your copyedit in your userspace, placing an 'under construction' template in the mainspace is redundant as the template essentially welcomes other editors to assist. While you would be proofreading the article in your sandbox, someone else might actually assume the article needs help and spend their time on it. Its like two people from the GOCE working on the same article simultaneously! I have therefore undid the edit. Pls. don't mind. Sorry though. -- Sriram speak up 13:56, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Yeah...I thought about that when I'd just gone offline. I might go one step further and offload it into Word so I can work on it when I have no internet access at the weekend. LS1979 (talk) 19:50, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate that. -- Sriram speak up 05:44, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi

If you find time for it please take a look at the article Långholmens spinnhus. That I created some time ago. Thanks.--BabbaQ (talk) 22:35, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

@BabbaQ: Unfortunately I am away until the 28th without internet, but I'll take a look at it now before we go, see whether I can make a contribution. 08:30, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
@BabbaQ: Given it a once-over and a polish. The article was a nice one - I changed a few phrasings and so on, mostly for flow of language. I'm quite interested in the subject myself. Might it be a good idea to link to the English concept of a Bridewell, which was a similar institution? LS1979 (talk) 09:01, 25 October 2014 (UTC) (gone ahead and added link; there are no pages for the rasp or spinnhus mentioned in the lead; perhaps this is another project. As I said, I've studied this area and actually write novels using a workhouse as a setting, so it would be interesting to see more about how other countries than Britain handled their 'Poor Laws'. Karunesh Kishan

Hey, as you tagged the article karunesh Kishan for speedy deletion i want to tell you that karunesh Kishan is a young poet having his first literary book in January 2015 is going to be launched. He also been published in various magezines and journals.

Hi Vinaypandit. Not all authors/poets/journalists are notable, per WP:N. If you can establish that Kishan fits the general notability guidelines, he can have an article, but merely having published something doesn't make him notable. LS1979 (talk) 19:21, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks--changes made!

I want to thank you for the helpful clarification given regarding the Sheree Bradford-Lea article. Hopefully the changes I've made are enough to get the warning tag removed (I didn't want to do this myself, in case more needs to be added). Again, thanks! SApricot (talk) 07:26, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

@SApricot: - could you make sure any sources are in the spirit of the general policy on reliable sources? For example, a flickr photograph or link to where her cartoons have been published is not really an appropriate source: it's self-published (simply an artwork by Sheree; I have work on flickr myself but am not a notable artist) and it doesn't discuss the artist. Biographies on websites are better, but they should be discussing the work without a view to promoting her for best results. Sources generally need to be external to the person you're discussing (what other people are saying about her and her work), indicative of the subject's notability (why she's significant to a particular art scene per the guidelines on writing about a creative artist), and subject to external editorial control (so they've gone through a system of peer review).
To be honest, most of the sources are still promotional in nature. Have a read of the notes on biographies and see what's needed in terms of sourcing.
Regarding the BLP tag, I didn't remove it because I think it needs better sources. The aim of that tag is not to demonstrate the artist exists, but that her details can be referenced to reliable sources, meaning that the individual isn't embarrassed by erroneous unchecked information.
But thank you for the article - it is much appreciated. Given her publication history, Sheree has probably been discussed in these sort of sources, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something. LS1979 (talk) 07:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Mukhtar Gharib

Sir I want to know if what mistake I did that Mukhtar Gharib has resulted to deletion? I already posted references which will show his achievements and that he is an existing person in UAE or how can I change it to be acceptable. Bdw I'm not really that good in coding, if you have any means I can contact you please send to me your mobile no.. Thank you sir. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcanthony (talkcontribs) 07:32, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

@Jcanthony: there are no sources listed in the article as it stands - you need to add inline citations which demonstrate the subject's significance. I don't give out contact details online, but if you could redraft an article in accordance with the notability and sourcing guidelines then it might well get past the people who patrol these new articles. Help with sourcing and referencing can be found elsewhere on Wikipedia LS1979 (talk) 07:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

I am extremely sorry. I have deleted the deletion tag from subject page by mistake. Apologies for that as I am new at editing on wikipedia. Please put that tag back again if you think it is required.

I have made a few changes to subject page and added some references, list of competitors and some other relevant information about file sources. I will gradually add more stuff to make it more relevant.

Kindly let me know if you have any suggestions in this regards.

Article that you recently deleted

I did not write much - I presented around 10 sources - why is that article an attack article? What is with the reliable sources? Is it the name? There is no BLP involved? Why was it deleted? I could present you multiple BLP articles that are by far more attack style. I was actually going to present the sources on the talk page of Haaretz but then I saw a warning that the page involves a "WARNING: ACTIVE ARBITRATION REMEDIES" and I refrained from editing it. Take a look at this BLP article - Sexual abuse cases in Brooklyn's Haredi community isn't this much more attack style? Caseeart (talk) 10:40, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

@Caseeart: You're right, other stuff does exist, and if you think those articles are problematic you're welcome to propose them for deletion too. However, I saw your item and marked it as being inappropriate. Also, I didn't have the final say in it being removed, since I'm not an administrator. LS1979 (talk) 12:00, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Who was the admin that actually deleted the article? I would like to discuss.
Also, what about the article made you propose speedy deletion and a warning on my talk page?Caseeart (talk) 05:28, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
You can see who deleted the article from the blanked page. I can't remember the exact title - could you please remind me what it was?
The warnings are left automatically by the page curation software used on the New Page Patrol when a template is left. As for speedy-deletion decisions, remember that Wikipedia tries to maintain a neutral point of view. The article you showed me had a tone which was a little more dispassionate than what I saw with yours, so maybe use that as a guide to what will make it through the NPP. It had a direct and very specific title, whereas yours was just a blanket accusation that there was a 'bias' in Ha'aretz' attitude towards Jews, which was rather vague and would need to be titled something like 'Allegations of Ha'aretz bias...' or 'Ha'aretz bias controversy', referring to very specific situations in which such bias has been pointed out directly by neutral third party sources (in other words, the bias needs to be well-documented in neutral sources and notable enough to pass the scrutiny of other editors and the general notability guidelines).
If you want to recreate the article, have a look at similar articles and make sure your title and what you put on the page initially conforms to a dispassionate view of the subject. Get advice at Articles for Creation to help you word something as neutrally as possible.
Because I'm not an admin and can no longer see the article I tagged, however, that's general advice. For specifics you're better off contacting the person who actually deleted it, since only admins can see deleted content. LS1979 (talk) 19:35, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Deleted Article: BlackArch Partners

Thank you for your interest in my newly created page. I am also new to Wikipedia. I think I officially contested the deletion of this page and here was my response... I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know how to amend the page to not appear promotional in nature from your perspective. Thank you in advance:

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because, similar to many other Wikipedia articles such as Harris Williams, Jefferies - or any other investment banking Wikipedia page, the page is simply discussing the fact that the company exists, who founded the company and where it is located. I cited an external article discussing the firm's founding.

Also, I deleted an external link that was placed in the overview section.

@Jverkuilen: - firstly, welcome to Wikipedia. I'm sorry your article got deleted; unfortunately, as I am not an administrator, I can no longer see it and explain what was wrong with it. As you can see from studying the articles you linked, the main importance for Wikipedia articles is to make sure the company is notable and has reliable sources which you reference when writing it. Using neutral language also helps. Mere existence of a company is also not enough to put an article on Wikipedia - the company has to be significant in terms of neutral media discussion. If you need assistance with creating an article, it may be wise to go through the Articles for Creation process to get feedback on a draft before it is put into WP. That will tell you whether your company is significant enough to have its own Wikipedia article and guide you on improving a draft.
I'm sorry this is not better news. My time is limited - I mostly do improvement of articles which are notable enough for Wikipedia and mark those which aren't for deletion or speedy deletion through the New Pages patrol. If you take a look at those policies that I've linked (and use those articles you link as a guide as to how to write and reference an article, and what sort of coverage in third-party media is necessary to begin with), you might be able to work out whether BlackArch Partners is significant enough to have its own WP article, and how to write one which is not going to be deleted as promotional or non-notable.
Also, when you leave a message on someone's talk page, type four tildes after it as suggested by the notice at the top of the page when you leave the message. It helps me know whom to contact when I respond to your post. LS1979 (talk) 18:46, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Sharjah Media Centre

What is the promotional items you find in our article. we are a government sector and totally respect your policies... but its so clear in my article that i identify our messages to people and audience in general !!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharjah Media Centre (talkcontribs) 22:55, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

@Sharjah Media Centre: - Hello. Your organisation looks notable, but you need to read the policy page on neutral point of view as well as what appears to others as promotional articles and phrase your content in a way that better fits those guidelines. Wikipedia isn't a place to promote or raise awareness of your business or institution, so if you tried to work on an article that better fits the policies then that might help your page survive the new pages patrol and deletion as purely promotional.
