@Ssven2: - Of course. I'll take a look ASAP (might take a day or two, but will definitely do it). LS1979 (talk) 07:36, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssven2: Done the edit - there wasn't a lot to clean up, so it was easy work. Just one question: is the title literally translated as 'New Bird'? LS1979 (talk) 16:05, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Puthiya means new and Paravai means bird. Ssven2 (talk) 16:30, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Holly Schapker tags[edit]

Hello Lstanly,

I thank you for your remarks about the Holly Schapker article. I am doing my best to improve it by removing phrases that may appear promotional to others. In addition, I am on my way to adding reliable and secondary reference to support the notability of the subject. Thank you for your understanding. VANDALISM[edit]

You may THINK that you are engaging in good, helpful editing, but please be advised you are instead engaging in VANDALISM. The Ankarum (Electrolux) mixer is spelled Assistent. If you can't wait until the original author/editor is finished, then please at least make sure you have your FACTS correct.
LP-mn (talk) 20:49, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please undo your "redirect" or whatever it is that you did to Electrolux Ankarum Assistent.

LP-mn (talk) 20:52, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@LP-mn: OK. Sure, no problem. The other stuff on that page I removed otherwise was unencyclopaedic WP:OR/WP:SYNTH/WP:ESSAY stuff, however, and written in a completely unencyclopaedic tone. There are ways of highlighting your article as a translation of a Swedish article - see WP:TRANSLATION (the section on "How to translate"). As a copy-editor I routinely try to edit new articles so they conform to what Wikipedia is, in order to help them survive. Your article needs work to bring it into line with policy/guidelines in this matter, but I won't interfere any further. LS1979 (talk) 21:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Epsom Triathlon Club[edit]

Hi, Epsom Triathlon Club is a not for profit club run by volunteers in Epsom Surrey for the local community to allow people to meet up with like-minded people to swim, cycle and run together. I wrote the page as I was aware that there was no information on the club on the internet and that I thought it appropriate that if people of surrey wanted to join a local club they needed some information online to help them get in touch.

Thanks

Matt Siviter — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msiviter (talkcontribs) 12:25, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Msiviter: Please take a moment to read the guidelines on what Wikipedia is not. Included in there is WP:NOTDIRECTORY, which means we're not a venue for local information services - we're an encyclopaedia covering notable organisations (see WP:ORG for more details). I'm sorry to nominate your article for deletion, but if it's not notable in our sense of the word, then you need to find an alternative user-created content venue to promote the club - even if it's a non-profit organisation. Even if your club is notable, it would be a WP:conflict of interest to write about it - because as an organiser, you may be too close to the organisation to describe it in a neutral tone.
Once again, I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, but I think you misunderstood what Wikipedia is here for. LS1979 (talk) 12:33, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Patsandsox[edit]

Thank you for reviewing the Thinking Phone Networks page. I think I added a few inbound links from lists of related companies pages and a few sources for the products section as you suggested. I'll come back and continue to improve it. Patsandsox (talk) 13:24, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Patsandsox: - great stuff. Just make sure when you use a source that it isn't promotional or just copy written directly from a press release (some of your sources consist only of itemised product lists with no actual commentary or reviews, and the first source you have there is a directory entry; the bostom.com and bostinno sources are taken from a company press release with little or no discussion of its actual content). Check it's an actual third-party, neutral, reliable source (generally, blogs and other sources need to be written by reputable journalists with strict editorial oversight to be reliable, and they must do more than just itemise what a company does). Most companies can be proved to exist, but check whether this corporation is notable per WP:CORP.
Other than that, thanks for contributing. LS1979 (talk) 13:39, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Fairburn article[edit]

Hi Louise, Thanks for your helpful comments on my article. [Is this (ours) a public or private correspondence?] The quotes from the Tolkien letters in the article were taken from published sources: i.e., the two essays by Paul Tankard (one in the TLS, the other in the Calendar), to which I provided references. Did I perhaps not give the sources carefully enough -- that is, put a ref to one or other of those essays after every quotation? (Now I presume that to send this to you, I press the "Save Page" -- I think a Submit or Send button would be clearer! And that if you reply, I'll find a number next to my name when I'm logged in. I have a lot to learn about Wikipedia!) Gregory Tanner (talk) 09:11, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gregory Tanner. Wikipedia is set up differently to a message board, so we're stuck with a system designed for article writing rather than geared towards pure discussion. You receive notification of messages through the system only if I use a template to alert you. Our discussion is public such that anyone can see this message/talk page, but not many people will interfere with it unless they either want to join the discussion themselves - which they are welcome to do here or on the Teahouse board. BTW, I'm a creative writer myself in the fantasy genre - while I don't teach and don't plan to, I help run a critique subreddit.
My time is limited at the moment, but basically, what you need to do with the citations is reference each significant fact about Mary Fairburn's relationship with Tolkien to a secondary source, and try not to draw any inferences from the correspondence which are your own analysis. I personally don't think that discourse is relevant to her work as an artist, and probably should not be in the article; I'm not sure what permission you have from Mary herself to write the article, but as she is still alive, you probably need to respect her privacy as far as the details of her current work; it's simply not relevant to Wikipedia that she's a community worker and a tricyclist unless she's notable for this. The place for all this work is in a published biography. Focus on what she drew for Tolkien's books; the article doesn't actually mention which pictures she drew for him - that's of most interest to people here.
If you could take a look at the WP:Biographies of living people article in depth, that would help it get approved. Basically: 'Biographies of living persons ("BLP"s) must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy' (from that previous link). There's a lot there I could quote, so I'm going to ask you to take a look at those policies, as they are important to protect the subjects of Wikipedia biographies (since we have a much wider audience than just a scholarly community for which this biography would probably be appropriate).
If you need any more assistance, you might want to contact the person who deleted your original article directly and ask them why they deleted it altogether rather than just declining it. I am out tonight so may not be available, but please leave me a message if you don't mind me getting back to you tomorrow morning. (I think this is a quality article - it's just not the right thing for a Wikipedia BLP, unfortunately.) LouiseS1979 (talk) 10:56, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Louise. Thanks for your guidance. I appreciate the points you make about not using unpublished material (to which I do have access: as you guess, I do know Mary personally), and about not using Paul Tankard's words. His two articles (the article in the TLS and his essay in the Calendar) are in fact the only published sources for biographical information about Mary. I might not now be able to get back to this job for a while (I am a literary scholar myself, and this job was a bit of an experiment -- but I do want to get it done: Mary was very enthusiastic -- she says Wikipedia is the only thing she likes about the internet!). I presume that this correspondence (and the draft article in my Sandbox) will stay there until I have time to address it again. (Is this the right way to respond to you?) Thanks again, and good wishes. Greg Gregory Tanner (talk) 21:52, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is great :), Gregory. I'm glad that Mary likes Wikipedia and given the sourcing requirements, she might well get an article. What I could do is have a little go at working with the sources to produce something that would stick on a Wikipedia article (without being deleted, cut or refactored as discussed above). I'd have to ask around - since she wasn't actually published as Tolkien's illustrator, she may be borderline notable as per Wikipedia's notability guidelines - but she has been mentioned in a reliable source, and had a calendar produced (does it contain another essay by Tankard?) so I'm not sure about this one.
But the main thing is that the draft you have needs to be shorn of the text you took or paraphrased directly from the TLS essay - that was Joe Decker's concern and issues of copyright need to be taken very seriously even in a place which is a personal draft space rather than the main encyclopaedia or a more public submission page.
Give my regards to Mary, however. I am in awe of anyone who can approach a giant like Tolkien in that manner. LouiseS1979 (talk) 07:24, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol[edit]

Hi. Thank you for patrolling new pages. I noticed that you tagged Denis Myzeqari for deletion within only 3 minutes of its creation. Unless the customary checks leave you 100% convinced that this page, which may still be in creation, should not be accepted, you may wish to consider suggesting to the author that they continue to develop it in the DRAFT namespace. Regards, and best wishes for the coming holidays. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:56, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Kudpung. I do try to leave appropriate messages if they query the deletion - as you can probably see from my talk page - but maybe I should be a little more pro-active. Good thinking :) and thank you for the help. LouiseS1979 (talk) 13:06, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I'm new at creating a wiki page and wanted to know how i can get it to come up in a search on google? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brinx211 (talkcontribs) 22:12, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brinx211 - unfortunately I don't think Wikipedia has any control over Google rankings: I certainly don't know anything about it. (Also, Wikipedia shouldn't be being used to promote your candidate; ideally, he meets the notability criteria set down in WP:POLITICIAN, otherwise someone might nominate him for deletion.) Sorry I can't be of more help. However, I will keep an eye on the article for you and help keep it in shape. At the moment, you may need to find some specifically third-party, neutral WP:reliable sources to prove his notability for the purposes of Wikipedia. Not all candidates are inherently notable simply because they are standing for election, nor should Wikipedia be part of their campaign strategy. thank you Publico2020 (talk) 15:29, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Especially given we are still learning how to submit, edit and many other things on Wikipedia.

Also, not sure how to fully categorize, or create charts, in various categories (Hmong, Laos, Vietnam War, Important Hmong-American and Lao-American people, War in Laos, military history, Laos Civil War etc)Publico2020 (talk) 15:34, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Impressive. I've had a look as a signed-up article reviewer, and the main issues I can see, which probably won't affect the notability or referencing of the subject or the acceptance of the article, are that references are not spaced out (that is, you don't put a space between punctuation and reference or between two references placed together), and it would be good to use Template:Cite web to format the references properly so the urls are tidied away into templated references. Other than that, I'm not seeing an issue, but then again be warned I haven't delved into the details of the article or its sources (and am more of a copy-editor than a content-creator, so may be missing something else).
As for the charts, I have no idea on that, but someone else will no doubt be along shortly. Good luck with getting the article accepted. (On a related note, I have a question of my own: as a relatively new reviewer, is it acceptable to edit drafts at AfC for copy-editing reasons, or should those be left alone for an original contributor to fix?) LouiseS1979 (talk) 19:34, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
And I do think it'd be better if you trimmed down unnecessary links in See also section.--Chamith (talk) 05:25, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
@Publico2020: I note with interest that you have been referring to yourself with "we" and "our", implying that your account may be shared by multiple persons. Please be aware that user accounts are supposed to represent your contributions as an individual, and for this reason, role accounts that are shared by multiple people are against Wikipedia policy. One especially important thing to know is that if you represent an organization or a company, you should avoid or be extremely cautious about editing articles affiliated with your organization. The reason for this is because you may have a conflict of interest for those subjects, meaning that you may find it difficult to write from a neutral point of view. Without intentionally doing so, editors tend to write biased content in the subjects they have a conflict of interest in. With regards to your draft, it looks pretty good. There are a few formatting errors that can be fixed through general editing. The ultimate question that will determine whether or not it will be accepted is whether or not the subject is notable—topics are generally notable when they have received significant coverage from reliable sources. This means that the quality of the sources you provide are essential for the submission's success. Mz7 (talk) 05:51, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
@Mz7: - good point. Having looked at the article, there are a few issues, but nothing really that suggests a COI issue or is overly promotional (or which couldn't be overcome by a bit of judicious editing once it goes live). Most of what is mentioned - absent the OTT See also section that Chamith notes - is noteworthy and is about someone who assisted in law-making to assist the naturalisation of various individuals involved in the Vietnam War, rather than about a company or organisation which is outside the scope of the project. However, Publico2020 does need to note the policy on shared accounts. LouiseS1979 (talk) 10:19, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
@Publico2020, Lstanley1979: Taking note of the above, I have gone ahead and Accepted the submission and moved it to Cherzong Vang. Publico2020, thank you for you contributions to Wikipedia! I would recommend you read the advice above carefully, and if you have any further questions, feel free to come back to the Teahouse! Happy editing, Mz7 (talk) 17:24, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Discussion regarding HomesPakistan page deletion.[edit]

Hi Lstanley

I do not want this article to get deleted so please help me improving it. Please suggest me how to submit this article in a section, where I can take help from other Authors to improve it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SFaysal (talkcontribs) 09:33, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, SFaysal. I think I left a link to WP:Articles for Creation on your talk page. You can use your sandbox page to write your article (click on that link and begin writing as you did when you created the article originally, then follow the instructions at Articles for Creation to submit it as a draft). Please also take a look at whether your company fits the notability guidelines for companies, and can be reliably sourced, otherwise it will be declined. (For instance, don't just link to articles that don't reference your company.) I'll cross-post this to your talk page. LouiseS1979 (talk) 10:11, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have submitted my article at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:HomesPakistan please help me improving it. I am confused as it says, your article is not submitted for review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SFaysal (talkcontribs) 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi SFaysal. You need to click the green button to submit it. Don't do it for the moment; I'm going to review your sources to make sure the article will pass the basic WP:CORP and WP:GNG notability guidelines, otherwise it's a waste of time actually going through the process of submitting the article. LouiseS1979 (talk) 18:59, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@SFaysal: - looking at the article, it will need copy-editing for English style and grammar, as well as residual promotional language, but I'm about to eat and may not get back to it this evening. I think you are probably notable (given the Telegraph link), so go ahead and submit it as a draft so other people can give their opinion. As I'm relatively new, I'm not 100% qualified to make that final say. LouiseS1979 (talk) 19:30, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lstanley. Happy Holidays! I just want to tell you that I have submitted the article to WP:Articles for Creation. Please review it over there and help me improving it and make it suitable to go live here. Thanks!SFaysal (talkcontribs) 26 December 2014 (UTC)

About article Harry Bawa[edit]

Hello Lstanly, First of all thank you for pointing mistake about the Harry Bawa article. Actually I am new here so could you please edit that for me.. :) I can provide you the details you want .. it would be a great help if you could do it for me .. :) Huge Thanks(In Advance) Harrythetech (talk) 16:13, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Harrythetech. As long as you can provide sources for where your work has been discussed by WP:Reliable sources (please read that article carefully first before giving me additional sources), then that's fine - they can go in the article. Generally speaking, I need to take out the YouTube links, since Wikipedia articles do not link to direct examples of people's work off-site - you could link to your YouTube channel in the External Links section.
Basically, if I edit the article, I'm going to take a lot of it out and reduce it to a fairly short, concise stub. Even then, I can't guarantee no-one will think you are not notable enough for a Wikipedia article. Do you understand what I'm saying with this? LouiseS1979 (talk) 19:35, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Lstanley1979. Well I understood what you said ..ok then i'll add my channel in external links and you please cut off the things from my article which according to policy and you are not allowed... you may even delete Youtube links... I don't mind it even shortened.. all I want is my article to be there.. I don't mind it to be short.. :) Hope you understood what I say :) thanks..
Harrythetech - absolutely. If you could post the sources you have discussing your work in significant detail here, then I can work on the article. I can't guarantee it won't be deleted by someone else, but it will help you at least get a start towards a decent article in compliance with policy. LouiseS1979 (talk) 07:19, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I've deleted it again, sorry. I'm not sure if you could see it had been deleted once, on December 20, Lstanley? I kind of wish Harry hadn't recreated it without checking with the deleting admin (a pink box with instructions, including a link to that admin, comes up when you try recreate a deleted page. It's better not to ignore it.) See my fuller comment on Harry's page. Bishonen | talk 12:35, 23 December 2014 (UTC).[reply]
Oh, thanks for letting me know, Bishonen - I appreciate your input. I wondered about tagging it for speedy but I thought there might be some vague notability there so I left it tagged, and Harry got in touch afterwards. Regarding the deletions - no, I don't believe I did see that it had been deleted once. I have trouble viewing deleted pages. I know I can't see the content as I'm not an admin, but I also get my browser annoyingly redirecting me to a search engine page - obvious evidence that a page has been deleted, but not being able to see the deleted article screen is annoying. I can view them on my computer at work, so I know what it looks like, but I don't log in there or use the facilities because I don't want to get distracted by what I can do as a logged-in user (I'm on Reception so I mostly just read, which is why I suddenly increased my activity over the last few months). brinx211[edit]

OK. Thanks for letting me know about this. This page is not a part of any campaign strategy. What do you mean by third party? What needs to be gone? ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brinx211 (talkcontribs) 22:39, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Brinx211. Basically, any sources beyond basic facts need to be 'third-party' - written by someone else other than the candidate, and discussing them as a significant figure in local or national politics, as well as being from sources with carefully fact-checked editorial policies - that is, no blogs, no Twitter discussions, no Facebook and so on (at the moment I only saw basic facts on his candidacy corroborated from electoral documents online - you need to show not only that he's standing, but that he's currently a significant candidate). If you read the guidelines on what is a reliable source, you'll also see that the candidate needs to be being discussed by significant media, e.g. the main Chicago newspapers in this case.
Basically, you've made a start on putting in sources that show he's standing for election in 2015 - now, you need to show that he is actually a major figure in the locality already (and not just within his own small circles). Also, read WP:POLITICIAN - that should summarise what needs to be in there and what you need to show about Steven to make sure his article stays the course. Thanks[edit]

For the Christmas greeting! And I hope you had a Happy Christmas as well! If you want to be added to a DYK nom you can take a look at the article Carolina Neurath that I have created. Cheers!--BabbaQ (talk) 00:11, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Babba! Hope you had a great holiday. I have a few questions about the article:
  • did she study at Stockholm University first, and then at the Poppius school? Or was she a simultaneous student at both? That sentence reads slightly ambiguously.
  • what would the best English translation of 'Sommerpratare' be, just for clarity? (The two linked articles about the relevant programmes don't make it obvious.)
  • should the Per Wendel-pris have its own article?
Otherwise, nice article and nothing significantly there to copy-edit. LouiseS1979 (talk) 12:41, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for your input. Yes, first at SU and then at Poppius. That might have been unclear I guess. On the second question, the translation of Sommarpratare is "Suummer talker" or perhaps a better way to write it would be just host or similar. Yes a separate article for the Wendel-pris is a good suggestion. I will see what I can do :) Thank you also for your c/e at the article. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 14:57, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@BabbaQ: Would 'summer presenter' (or Summer Presenter) be the right rendering? Otherwise, I'll give it a quick once-over again. LouiseS1979 (talk) 15:01, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We're off to see The Hobbit so I'll be AFK for a while, but I've also wikilinked the Poppius school, as it would probably also be notable (accredited colleges usually are IIRC). LouiseS1979 (talk) 15:05, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that would be an even better translation. Thank you! Oh, I have already seen the new film an it is great, so enjoy! And thank you for the wikilink. Cheers.--BabbaQ (talk) 15:14, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@BabbaQ: - Oh yes, it was good. Thanks again for the c/e request. LouiseS1979 (talk) 18:45, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@BabbaQ: Made one last edit: I changed the second picture from left-positioned to right-positioned. I felt where it met the 'Works' section it shunted the text to the right, making it look a little cluttered on my screen. But feel free to overrule me on that. Pécs Zoo[edit]

Hi,

thanks for the review, the fact is that I have also only Hungarian sources to the article, which might not be very useful to link to the article. But if you say so, I'll link some Hungarian sources, unfortunately I worked only from those and translated them. I also try to find some English articles, but the official page has no English description.

@Vampeare: - ideally, all articles need to be sourced (and each fact, including the bits about the construction of the zoo by volunteer labour, which are definitely quite interesting :)) - but sources can be in any language, not just in English (if suitable English sources aren't available, as it looks like in this case).
