Thanks for the welcome, Kim. I'm afraid that, whilst I have an academic interest in Medieval Weapons and Armour, I'm no expert on the Viking period (whatever that might be). However, I would be happy to help with the Viking Weapons and Armour Wikipedia Article if no other more qualified individual steps forward in the near future. Hey Kim. I haven't bee able to access the internet for the last month or so, so I haven't been able to help with the article. Did you add the link to that excellent Viking weapons and Armour Web Page? It was really very informative. I'm afraid I haven't had time to research the subject much myself, the books I had to hand weren't very useful, though I did glean this and that fact. I gave Beowulf another read, looking out especially for weapons and armour and such, which was a useful supplement, particularly Beowulf's final encounter with the Dragon. I was only using Seamus Heany's translation, however, so I'm not sure what the 'Dagger' he has to hand is, perhaps a HondSeax? Hopefully not. Interestingly Lazamon uses 'HondSeax' in his Brut in a description of the weapons of a king that in addition include, spear, sword, axe and bow. I'll try to find some time this month. No, my native language is English, though I do speak a bit of German. I just find it convenient to use capitals when discussing arms and armour or, indeed, types of soldiery. It's a personal note taking habit that found its way onto the Internet; it doesn't generally make it into my academic work, though I do slip up on occasion... --M.J.Stanham 16:24, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
