helpme I guess I do not get it. Get what to do to post as a new article this aticle on Dan Guenther, American Writer, that I wrote.

Hi there. There already is an article about Dan Guenther. Is that what you mean? --Chasingsol(talk) 15:38, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

helpme Hey, lots of internal links, a couple good footnotes and some references have all been added to the Dan Guenther article. Is it good enough to have the Orphan and standards judgment changed? What more should be done.....(there are some more reviews coming to link) MKohut (talk) 15:41, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's still orphaned - only one incoming mainspace link. Still needs wikification on various titles, I might do this later if you don't. :) neuro(talk) 16:10, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

helpI would like to add a picture of Dan Guenther, which I have, to his page. How do I do this?

WP:UL will take you through uploading the picture (including determining if you have permission to do so). WP:Image will show you how to embed it. Pseudomonas(talk) 18:55, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The picture was taken by one of Mr. Guenther's adult children and is on his website. I have it direct as a jpg.
I think you need permission from the photographer to release it under the GFDL (or another license that allows anyone to use it for any purpose). So long as you have that, you can go ahead. Pseudomonas(talk) 19:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What more can I do to improve this page; get it out of orphan status and make sure it is fully wikified?#

To remove the orphan status, make sure that other articles that mention Dan Guenther have his name wikilinked. I've removed the wikify tag. Pseudomonas(talk) 19:19, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense of Olinger Stories[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Olinger Stories, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Olinger Stories provides no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Olinger Stories, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 00:23, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some solid information to the Olinger Stories entry, I think. I can get a list of stories when I can get a copy of the book, although, as I wrote, all of the stories are in Updike's first two collections, one of which I have finished detailing. Pigeon Feathers remains to do (after rereading). Perhaps the stories that are in Olinger Stories should be indicated clearly at the story entries for the two collections? One now must "get" that the youthful autobiographical stories are the ones that will be in Olinger Stories.

References/Footnotes[edit]

Hi,

I'm guessing that what you are asking about is referencing?

You don't have to put references in any order; it's done automatically.

Tips on referencing

There are lots of ways to do this, some are simple, some more complex.

Personally, I like using citation templates, and fill in as much as I possibly can; maybe a bit more work, but I think it looks better. You have a . An example usage is;

For all the possible things to include, see Template:Citation

Of course, you don't have to put everything in, just whatever you can. The above example is a book, but I've included a 'convenience link' to a website that displays it.

Then, at the end of the document (but before any 'category' tags), you need a references section. You just put,

References
reflist

Hard work? - help is at hand. There are lots of tools that create cite tags automagically. Personally, I use Zotero for the web links, and the cite book generator for books.

I also recommend you look at other articles and copy from them - especially featured articles, which should have good refs.

Hope this help, cheers,  Chzz  ►  14:14, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

help request re. Dan Guenther[edit]

I cannot, still, figure out how to add references. I have this web review of Mr. Guenther's latest bok to add.: http://vvabooks.wordpress.com/2011/06/25/the-crooked-truth-selected-poems-by-dan-guenther/

adminhelp I am the major creator of this page. I have rewritten it since it was judged too much of an advertisment. I hope it can be judged again by Wiki editors.MKohut (talk) 13:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 • adminhelp not required, normal helpme would be fine
 • I've moved the help request to your own talk page, - it's better to use helpme here
 • I'll look at the article now, and reply soon.

Having looked at the article, I see no inline references to reliable sources (as explained above), so most of the information must be removed (per WP:BLP), unless it can be sourced innediately; please read about reliable sources. Hope this is helpful,  Chzz  ►  13:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
helpme I am the major creator of this article. I have rewritten it in accordance with a neutral pov. I believe I have eliminated anything that could be seen as advertisement-like. I know there are only a couple of links within the short text

about the author, but there are a lot of links to his work---in established mainstream magazines, publishers and periodicals. I would like a new judgment---to eliminate the advertisement judegment----or to tell me what yet to do to achieve that status. And/or a judegment of its short but, I hope, okay quality.

Hi. I'll take a look at that now, and respond here ASAP - within the hour. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  16:59, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so - as per above, it needs inline references. Let's take a concrete example, and work from there. First line, "Dan Guenther, born in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1944..."
Please tell me, by editing here and replying below - where is a reliable source that proves that he was born in Waukegan in 1944? You can provide a link below using the format Google, which will come out like this: Google. Give me that source, and I can show you how it should be added, and what needs to be done throughout.

::You don't need to use another helpme; I will be watching this page for your reply. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  17:04, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As several days have passed, I'll stop monitoring this page for a reply. If you do want to discuss this further, please either;

help I have a first edition of The Red Tent. I entered the full correct publisher on wikipedia but it shows up in red??!! Also, the cover shown at wikipedia is not the first edition. I do not know how to add/change an image.

The redlink is there because the page linked to does not yet exist (Wikipedia is a growing project, and we don't have pages about everything... yet! ;D). The best solution to this would be to create the page (if the subject is notable, read WP:NN), or to redirect to St. Martins Press, which appears to be the parent company (which is what I've done for now). As to images, if you have the image of the original cover, it may be possible to upload it to Wikipedia, so long as copyright is observed. Read through WP:Upload. And also check there isn't already that image on Wikipedia, by doing a search. To add an image to a page, you can use this format: , replacing "name of file" with the name of the file, which you choose when uploading. See Help:Images and other uploaded files for more. You should also double check that the image you think is the first edition cover is, and provide a source in the article. Hope that helps. If not, just ask again. If you need help with anything else, or want me to be more specific, again; just ask :). Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 19:14, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know how to eliminate the Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page). mark from the text of the first paragraph of the article on Dan Guenther.

You wouldn't want to remove the ref mark. These are the manner in which references are cited. My76Strat 23:08, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
