Hello, need some help!

Hello Tony, I am coming back with my raincheck (hehe) and thanks for making me feel welcome. Just wondering if you knew of a way to "easily"(!!!) find existing pictures in wikipedia, wikipedia commons, spanish wikipedia, etc. Say I needed a pic of El Morro fort to stick in a WP article. Well, is there a utility where I would type in (of course not this one, but as an example) "El Morro" and it would search for all the pictures with the words 'El Morro' in them? Good morning! I never responded to you regarding our discussion on Afro-Puerto Rican as a term last year because I was very pleased by the effect your edit had. It substantially reduced the edits adding persons to the category who were children of African-Americans and boricuas, based on a misunderstanding of the term Afro-Puerto Rican. You requested a definition, and here it is: An Afro-Puerto Rican is a black person, the majority of whose black ancestry (in the African diaspora) is from the island of Puerto Rico. I realize that this may include "mulato;" it would be key if the biracial person identifies as black. It is all moot...your edit has been great for accuracy. If you are reverting an edit which is not vandalism, use an edit summary or the talk page. I also suggest you read WP:FLAGCRUFT. It has been repeatedly discussed at WP:ETHNIC (e.g. here) that we should not put flags on these articles. Also, if you insist on having some box at the top of that article, it is better to use a standard {{Infobox ethnic group}} rather than a custom table with the names of three random people whose pictures aren't even there. cab (talk) 00:16, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes there is nothing in policy, but standard infoboxes are easier to maintain, easier to add information to, etc. "Infobox is in uniformity with the series which I created" --- thanks for creating articles, but creation does not mean ownership, as I'm sure you might be aware in your extensive Wikipedia experience. As for the flags, the whole point of the discussion is that flags do not neutrally represent migrant populations, especially in the case of overseas Chinese where some parts of migrant populations identify with the Republic of China and others with the People's Republic of China and yet others neither country at all. cab (talk) 02:27, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Project news People with an interest in clearly presenting battle information, and First World War buffs, will find the discussion about a new campaign box for the Battle of the Somme interesting. With the recent increase in enthusiasm, Wikipedia-wide, for creating "outline" articles, there's an ongoing discussion here. The idea is to produce guidelines for overview articles for Milhist editors and reviewers. Proposals have been made to introduce a new self-scoring "honour" system for Contest Department entries. Editorial: Getting to FAC via A-Class - some interesting new facts Well, it’s official. Milhist articles have a much better than average chance of success as featured article candidates. MBK004 has done some useful number-crunching following the fortunes of the 97 Milhist featured article candidates submitted between January and July this year. The research shows that 70% of Milhist articles were promoted against an overall average of 51%. Looking behind the figures, some other interesting facts emerge. First, 84% of our promoted articles had successfully passed a Milhist A-Class Review before going on to FAC. Second, of the 29 Milhist articles that failed, less than half (41%) had had an A-Class Review. Third, the 97 Milhist articles accounted for 16% of all FACs submitted between January and July of this year. Hello Marine 69-71, the surname Pop is found in both Holland (Netherlands) and Germany. People bearing this surname can be of German or Dutch descent or both. As for Luis R. Esteves I didn't stated that his mother was from Curacao. I stated that his grandmother was and that Van der Dijs is a Dutch surname. Yeah, he must had been really skilled to draw such an accurate map as a teenager, but he did came from a militaristic family, so that kind of knowledge is not a surprise. However, the irony surrounding the whole incident is the part that I find most amusing. I'm not sure what is the problem with the images, did the user complaining actually read the rationale? For those who were unaware of this, I am an undergraduate student, and will be taking a leave of absence, effective end September, to focus on graduating in December. Puerto Rico, Puerto Rican cuisine and the return of Portorricensis

Tony I must apologize for this, but I just reverted Puerto Rico's article to the last revision before the anon block expired. I'm sure that you must had made some additions to the article in the meanwhile and my intention is not to eliminate those but the anon damage. We (mostly me) must now go trough the tedious job of filtering the constructive stuff. Anyways, our old friend, Portorricensis is back editing as an anon and he actually registered a sockpuppet (Portoricensis) that has been blocked. Unsurprisingly he once again bombarded the Puerto Rican cuisine page with his propaganda, ignoring the consensus once again. Puerto Rican naval campaign

You are correct about the Battle of Fajardo not being a naval battle, it was however a naval engagement due to the simple fact that the US warships, involved in the battle, fired their weapons in support of ground forces. Also, the ground forces involved were primarly naval units, to my off the top of my head knowledge. This means it can be considered as apart of the Puerto Rican naval campaign. I will not add the Battle of Fajardo to the naval operations section again but I do think you should think about it, thank you. --Az81964444 (talk) 07:06, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Editing of Tito Lara's page

Dear Tony:

I apologize for trying several times to edit your page on Tito Lara. What happens is that I am a singer too and I had the priviledge of meeting Tito Lara and had conversations with him several times. I have some of his popular music recordings and his sacred ones too, including the recording of the duet with Maribel Soto and some out of print original accompaniment tracks from the ones he used to sing at churches. I had the honor of listening to him singing live at several churches I visited, following Him. The recordings do not do justice to his amazing voice. His live sound was incredible. The beauty and transparency of his notes were incredible. I have sung at church some of his songs and some people have told me that my voice resembles his. I do not really believe that since I honestly consider myself a good singer, but reaching his quality is a dream that I might never get, since as said before, his voice was like no other. I noticed that my last contributions were eliminated: the lines about his register, what someone said on the radio about him and that he passed away smiling. It's OK if you prefer not to allow me to edit, but I really admire him and after speaking to him about Sandi Patty, Maribel Soto, and his projects, I would really like people to know all that.

Ponce De Leon

Hi Tony, yes ive tried my best with the 'de Hostos' ancestors table...i also added the luis munoz marin ones with good references i think, and i added the juan ponce de leon table too..but had to separate the tables as it was getting to smaller room..and as far as the descendents de leon..it takes so much searching on the net. The table seems to be difficutlt to add Lola rodriguez as she is too far down the line 200 year gap or so..it seems that Lola's mother is called doña Carmen Ponce de León y Martínez Mariño with her mother parents being José Antonio Ponce de León y Doña Vicenta Martínez Mariño......this is what ive found..although need to search alittle info so its true...maybe you know more on this.. I think it would be better to just add another ancestors table to Lola rodriguez own article.. ..also it will be alink with Juan Ponce de leon de Loayza, and searching on his children and wife is difficult.. anyway let me know what you think..Puertorico1 (talk) 20:40, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

By the way, have you seen the Juan Manuel López (boxer) article lately? Its fairly solid for a boxer that won his first championship just a year ago. López fights tomorrow and will most likely reach his 5th successful defense, then in January he will unify with Celestino Caballero. • I am not a politician but, I think that Muñoz Marín was a very complex individual to understand, he was against statehood and at the same time became the greatest enemy of the independence movement. I believe that he wanted to lead Puerto Rico "poco a poco" to a type of autonomy similar to that which the island had and in which his father Muñoz Rivera had played an influential role shortly before the American invasion. I think that he did not want to offend the United States, whom he knew were the ones who held complete jurisdiction over the island, in order to accomplish his objectives. I believe that Muñoz Marín became a traitor to the independence movement and did everything in his power to crush the movement because he feared that it would be a set back to his plans. Yet, he failed to accomplish his dreams because Puerto Rico did not and does not have the same autonomy with the same liberties and powers that Spain had granted the island in 1898. As a matter of fact, the United States was under pressure from the United Nations at the time (1950s) to liberate it's colonies and it was very convenient to have a Puerto Rican governor elected by the people and a political party to come up with the new "Estado Libre Associado" which is nothing more then a change of name for what still remains a territory (colony). Nothing changed in regard to the status. Now in all fairness, we cannot deny that Muñoz Marín had a tough job and that the programs which he proposed helped our economy. He was a puppet "lambe ojo", of the United States and the greatest enemy that the independence movement ever had. Before we judge the man we must weigh in one scale his positive contributions to the island and it's economy and in the other scale his dark side, the relentless crushing of the patriotic independence movement. I do believe that the account of User:Bunns USMC has been cracked. The recent contributions from that account have been less than mature. I find it hard to believe that a previously valuable contributor would actually call somebody an idiot... but either way, the account needs a temporary block, at least until we can figure out whom is in control. Regarding your undoing of my edits

Thank you for your communication with me. How about this link (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1628084/bio) that proves that Belange Rodríguez is the stepdaughter of Miguelángel Suárez? Also, in the eighth paragraph of this link from El Vocero newspaper (http://www.vocero.com/noticia-18522-ltimo_adis_a_miguelngel.html) in Puerto Rico, it states the following:

"Inmediatamente pidió que subieran al proscenio Alondra con su hijo Fabián y nieto de Suárez; su hija Belange, los hermanos del actor y Nana Hudo, entre otros familiares."

In English, that translates as "Immediately [she] asked that [daughter] Alondra and her son Fabián (Suárez's grandson); his daughter Belange [Rodríguez], the actor's siblings and Nana Hudo, among other relatives, go up onto the stage."

According to the above IMDb link, the late Mr. Suárez lived with Amneris Morales (Belange Rodríguez's mother) for 13 years prior to their marriage just before his death. Even if he was Ms. Rodríguez's common law stepfather for years, the moment Ms. Morales and Mr. Suárez married, that made Ms. Rodríguez his legal stepdaughter.

Believe me when I tell you that I take Wikipedia editing seriously and am not trying to vandalize this page. Also, why did you undo my edit of the alternate spelling of his name? He was known as Miguelángel Suárez (one word) in Puerto Rico, as evidenced in the articles about his death as well as his own IMDb site. It is mere conjecture, but it is possible that he broke his name into two words for the sake of a United States audience (being that that is clearly conjecture on my part, I did not include that into my Wikipedia edit).

If I quote the above links in a future edit, will that suffice?

Pilots Wings in Photo of Alberto A Nido

• Not 100% sure it is a British or Canadian pilots wings, it should have a crown on the top which is not clear on the image. Also it would be worn on the left side, But he could have just worn it on the wrong side if his usaf wings were on the left side. Nice if you had another image of Nido in uniform. Tony, I concur with MilborneOne. My interpetation is that the badge is an RAF or RCAF pilot's wings. See [2] and [3]. On an RCAF or RAF uniform the badge is worn on the left. He probably got permission to wear the wings on the right side since, obviously his US wings would be on the left.BC_{talk to me} 23:23, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
