Hello, I'm CASSIOPEIA. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Nicole Paradis Grindle, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 12:19, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Adding Logo/Image to Page

Please help me with adding the logo to Facetune infobox

Made some edits to their page and saw the infobox looked bare without an image. I'm newish to Wikipedia and while I've made some edits, I have no idea how to add images. Any help would be appreciated. TIA! MaskedSinger (talk) 16:49, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Uploaded and added. Images are a little tricky due to copyright issues; WP:Non-free content criteria explains when we can make use of non-free files such as this one. The WP:File Upload Wizard is the tool of choice to upload non-free images. Freely licensed or public domain images, on the other hand, should be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons via their Upload Wizard. Huon (talk) 19:32, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Adding Photo

Was on the page of Shlomo Kramer and he deserves to have a picture on the page. I'm not so sure how to do this so thought it would just be easier to ask for help :) MaskedSinger (talk) 17:51, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

As I said above, adding photos is tricky due to copyright issues. For living persons like Shlomo Kramer, Wikipedia accepts only freely licensed images that everybody is allowed to re-use and modify for any purpose, inlcuding commercial purposes. If you know of such an image (and have evidence that it's indeed freely licensed), you can upload the image to the Wikimedia Commons, a central repository for freely licensed images, via their Upload Wizard. If we can't find a freely licensed image of Kramer, we cannot add one. Huon (talk) 21:16, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Willbb234. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from List of Colgate University people. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.

In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please, only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Thanks! Ideas for niches to edit

If you're interested, women's football and footballers in general get less attention on Wikipedia. There's a requested list here, and I tried to compile A bunch of sources about football in general - feel free to use (and to better) as you like :). --SuperJew (talk) 11:23, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks so much SuperJew! A wonderful idea :) Shabbat Shalom! MaskedSinger (talk) 11:53, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
A pleasure mate :) And btw, notice that is acceptable to indent answers on talk pages with the : symbol, as I have done and fixed here. Shabbat shalom :) --SuperJew (talk) 12:03, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I see SuperJew! I'm not so strong on formatting and protocol so any tips or advice would be most welcome! MaskedSinger (talk) 12:14, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
For sure, all done to improve you :) So as I said, indenting answers - so every reply with an extra : symbol :) --SuperJew (talk) 12:18, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello!

Hi there, just checking to see how your are getting on and how you’ve been recently? Best wishes, Willbb234 (talk) 19:20, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Oh hey Willbb234 thanks for checking in! For now good :) Been contributing a lot to articles for deletion discussions. It's a great way to see what makes a good article and what doesn't. Soon I'd actually like to create my first article. Found a C level page to improve and was doing a bunch of work on it. Saw that the parent company didn't have a page so been busy working on that. Researching and drafting. Hope to have it ready soon. Other than that, I try not to get overwhelmed. There are so many pages, so much to do. Just need to stay focused. Everyone has been really friendly and warm here - mostly. That's about it. Crazy to think how nervous I was about joining and editing. Put it off for so long. Don't know why. Lol. MaskedSinger (talk) 19:25, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
That’s great to hear! It felt great when I finished and created my first article. I had no problems with it, just as long as its well referenced and follows WP:MOS it should get through with no problems. Thanks for the barnstar, if you have any questions feel free to ask me or, as I said, the Help Desk. Also, I ask a few of my slightly harder questions to Oshwah, he’s a great guy who knows his stuff. Anyway, best of luck, Willbb234 (talk) 19:40, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Apologies for being nosy, but I’ve had a little look at your contributions to AfD. If you haven’t already, you might want to read WP:DP - a lack of sources is not a reason to delete, more sources can be found if searched for. Of course if no reliable sources can be found then it can be deleted but its best to look hard for sources before making a decision (I’ve nominated a couple of arricles for AfD so I know a bit about this). Hope that helps, Willbb234 (talk) 19:46, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
No apology necessary Willbb234. Surely it's on the person writing the page to find the reliable sources. I'm looking at the page that's in front of me - not the page that could be written with 50 hours of work put into it. I look at it as a paper that's been handed in. I'm grading what I'm looking at. If a person feels compelled to create a page - them writing one line doesn't do anyone any favors. But not sure why it's on me, the person contributing to the discussion? I'm not nominating for deletion, I'm just giving my 2c to what someone already felt deserved it. MaskedSinger (talk) 19:55, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
You have to remember that a lot of new users will go head first into creating an article without adding sources (either because they don’t know or they can’t be bothered). Stuff you might want to read: WP:AADD, WP:TNT (this is in rare cases), WP:NOLOSS. Hope that helps, Willbb234 (talk) 20:27, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! Thats true but some of these articles for deletion were over 10 years old! MaskedSinger (talk) 20:31, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

The article has been improved. Would you like to rethink your AFD opinion? 2405:204:D08F:7A20:E460:1D0D:57E1:FBCC (talk) 12:44, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

No. Still delete MaskedSinger (talk) 16:10, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Please stop harasssing me. MaskedSinger (talk) 17:44, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
@2405:204:D08F:7A20:E460:1D0D:57E1:FBCC: Please keep discussion of an AFD on the appropriate page and do not harass individual users. Thank you, --SuperJew (talk) 09:53, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

AfD arguments - some help

Hi—after checking your record so far at AfD, it looks like your judgements are often correct, which is good, but I think many of your contributions have maybe been a bit on the low-content side ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], just from recent ones), often focused on how old particular articles are ([6] and above). I see Willbb234 has also raised this problem to you already. I think it might be a good idea to pause for a bit and read, firstly, the Articles for Deletion page itself, which states that you should not make recommendations "that are not sustained by arguments" and that you should "explain how the article meets/violates policy rather than merely stating that it meets/violates the policy", and then have a read of WP:ATADD, which contains a lot of usually applicable rules of thumb for what arguments are and are not appropriate in deletion discussions (again Willbb already recommended this).

In the case of old articles, you have to remember that relatively obscure topics—the sorts of things that often get brought up at AfD—are not going to attract lots of editorial attention. It's completely understandable if an article on an obscure topic is only edited substantially once in 10 years. Apart from a few special cases like promotional pages and attacks on living people, AfD is supposed to judge whether a topic is suitable for Wikipedia, not the quality of an article or whether you like it or not. AfD is not for marking the work of a previous editor, it's a judgement about a topic.

I'm just bringing this up for your benefit, which is why I pinged you in the AfD debate—I don't think I need to raise these rules of thumb to closing admins, because they can generally be relied on to already know them, and I also don't have any personal stake in the article I first saw you comment on. No personal issues, just hoping this is helpful. Cheers —Nizolan (talk · c.) 15:43, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Nizolan! MaskedSinger (talk) 17:25, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

CNMall41 (talk) 19:52, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

I don't know if this is premature as the AFC I'm working on hasn't yet been approved but I tried to make an infobox for it and for some reason it's not displaying. It's all still there in the draft. If someone could fix it and explain what I did wrong, that would be great. Also if you don't mind adding a logo to it while you're there, that would just be super. MaskedSinger (talk) 04:45, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

I suggest you look at the documentation for {{Infobox company}}, since Draft:Lightricks is about a company more than it is about a software product. Most of the time, parameter names are not capitalized, but you need to check the documentation to see which parameters are accepted for a particular infobox. You should note that the parameter names that you need to pass into the template are not always spelled the same way as the label on the item when the infobox is rendered: "hq_location" and "num_employees", for instance. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:43, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
Followup about logo - much of the time the logo for a company is non-free content and cannot appear in a draft. Adding it should wait until after the article is accepted. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:46, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
— jmcgnh thanks so much for getting back to me! really appreciate it. MaskedSinger (talk) 18:29, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

people here

I try to help as many potentially good articles as I can, but I always try to do too much, and always fall behind. Consequently, though I do need reminding, I find it embarrassing to be reminded too insistently, and, like most people, when I am embarrassed I tend to feel angry. I have even been known to to deal with this by never working on the problem again. (And I suspect a lot of very active people here are like me in all this). Please take this in a friendly way. DGG ( talk ) 07:49, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

My dear DGG thank you so much for everything. Taking the interest in the page, showing me how to be a better technical editor and showing me that being a senior editor here just isn't about the edits but how you deal with others. My impatience sometimes gets the better of me - I'm trying to work on that - not just here but elsewhere. In this case I allowed it to get the better of me - because I wasn't sure what was happening with the page, because I didn't want it to get lost in all the other things you do. I'm taking what you say in a very friendly way and would still take your advice on board even if it wasn't friendly. I hope I haven't burned a bridge with you and can come back to you in the future if I have other questions or looking for advice. If so, I understand. MaskedSinger (talk) 06:17, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
I assure you that I am always glad to provide a reasonable amount of assistance, either about specific articles, or about general matters. Now, what you ought to do, is to look at the differneces between my version of the Draft:Lightricks I just wrote, and the various other versions, and see if you understand the reason why I made the changes. DGG ( talk ) 21:27, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
DGG I have - many times! I admire your handiwork every time I come to check to see if the page has been reviewed ;) You really are a terrific editor! MaskedSinger (talk) 04:27, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
I'm experienced with a narrow range of subjects, rather than particular skilled--over the years, the same problems keep occurring. The proof of whether I'm doing it right is to see if you can learn from my corrections to do it well also. DGG ( talk ) 04:46, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
I don't know what the protocols here are DGG, but if I've come across an editor who I think could be UPE. What do I do?

Hi MaskedSinger,

I'm not very active on Wikipedia anymore as I am focusing on Wikivoyage these days, but I saw your request and have reviewed the draft article. It is clear you have put a lot of effort into finding better sources for this article, which helps your case. I think you still have a challenge in establishing notability. What makes this company stand out from all of the other app companies out there?

For me, the things that make this one notable are:

  • Apple's most downloaded app in 2017.[19] one of Google's best apps of 2014.
  • Enlight Videoleap, a video editor[24] a 2017 iPhone App of the Year.[25]

Do you have a source for the claim that Google called it a "best app" for 2014? I would incorporate this into the lead paragraph to establish notability early in the article.

I would also suggest contacting the editors who declined your previous submissions and ask them what they are looking for to establish notability.

I hope this helps, Ground Zero | t 01:52, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Ground Zero! Additionally it had a billion dollar valuation which actually happened after the first draft of the article.

Haha I wish. A week before the wedding is less realistic ;)
Regarding the logo, it depends on the copyright. If it's free to use there should be no problem using. If it's copyrighted you'd be able to use it as fair-use. Have a look at these guidelines regarding non-free content: WP:NFC, WP:NFCC, WP:NFURG. Examples of non-free use: A-League logo, FFA logo, club logos, etc. --SuperJew (talk) 06:34, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks ToBeFree - what happens after that? MaskedSinger (talk) 18:31, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
This depends on a few decisions that I personally find difficult to make. Someone experienced with the legal topic needs to decide whether this is fair use or a case of "simple geometry". It also needs to be carefully decided whether the vector graphic can be used, or if it is more reasonable to render it at a specific size and upload a bitmap. Please wait until someone else answers the request. 🙂 ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:59, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Adding Photo

Please help me with adding a photo of Zeev Farbman to his page.

MaskedSinger (talk) 05:20, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

You can request a photo by following the directions at Wikipedia:Requested pictures. Please be aware, however, that an image of an individual may be used in Wikipedia only if it meets the Wikipedia:Image use policy. It is often the case, however, that no image of a living person that meets the image use policy is currently available. Until and unless someone takes a photo of that person and releases it under a license compatible with Wikipedia's policies, we cannot have a photo of the subject in Wikipedia.
If you have access to a photo that meets the Wkipedia image use policy, then various links at Wikipedia:Images will tell you how to upload that image, and how to embed it in an article. - Donald Albury 14:11, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

it seem you changed partner to former partner without giving a reference. DGG ( talk ) 23:44, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: The article I saw confirming their split is a Daily Mail one which I can't use. But yet given the reality doesn't seem reasonable to still have them as partners. Saw a number of articles about her with a new partner but they are all also Daily Mail. Think I just one a source from Australian Daily Telegraph. This ok? MaskedSinger (talk) 07:17, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
yes, you can use that one. DGG ( talk ) 15:54, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Will do! MaskedSinger (talk) 19:59, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hey :)

Hi, just wanted to say hello :) I've been super busy lately as we try to recover to a regular lifestyle post(ish)-corona - have on my plate right now driving lessons, a new job, and frontal classes ahead of a massive exam on 7 July. Btw I was wondering where the name "Yaacov Agam Museum" was familiar to me, as my parents told me the other day they went there. Now, going into your page the mystery was solved :) Take care, --SuperJew (talk) 17:54, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi SuperJew great to hear from you! Good luck with the driving lessons and the exam. Don't use Wikipedia rabbit holes as an excuse not to study ;) Did they like the museum? What do you think - we can create the page together? MaskedSinger (talk) 05:42, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. My problem is I have too many rabbit holes. But I'm def trying to avoid them haha. Yeah my parents really enjoyed the museum, but I don't know too much about it ;) --SuperJew (talk) 06:39, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Zara Larsson's "anti-Zionism"

I did not erase the "anti-Zionism" claims but placed them at her political views seeing that it didn't cause a lot of buzz or controversy besides a post on one pop culture blog. This case is more of a controversy for Demi Lovato. Furthermore, I don't appreciate you saying I deleted it just "because I don't like it" because that is not the case. Many thanks and have a good day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1810:C86:BD00:6053:3306:142F:B0C0 (talk) 11:41, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Adding image to new page

Could someone please assist with adding the logo of Niceland Seafood to their infobox. I created the page Niceland Seafood which is still in draft form and awaiting review. MaskedSinger (talk) 15:33, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

We generally don't put logos in draft articles, as it's usually more work than it's worth. Now that the article has been accepted, we can add the logo. In my opinion, the Niceland Seafood logo is protected by copyright and can only be used on Wikipedia in compliance with the non-free content policy and guidelines. If you feel that you understand the policy and guidelines, you can upload the logo by following the instructions at Wikipedia:Uploading images. Otherwise, you can ask for a volunteer to do it for you at Files for upload. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:48, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi @AntiCompositeNumber: thanks for your reply. Aren't all business logos protected by copyright and yet they all appear on Wikipedia? What would the difference be? MaskedSinger (talk) 04:14, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Some logos are below the threshold of originality, and are not protected by copyright. You can see some examples at c:Commons:Threshold of originality. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 15:35, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi @AntiCompositeNumber: Would you be able to assist me with adding it? MaskedSinger (talk) 15:41, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello MaskedSinger. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MaskedSinger. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MaskedSinger|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message.

Do you have any conflict(s) of interest to disclose? Some of the articles, you have worked on, for example, Niceland Seafood and Daniel Roth (writer) have a promotional feel to them. Thanks in advance for clarifying this. --- Possibly 04:44, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

The pages Draft:Enlight Videoleap, Lightricks, Draft:Enlight Quickshot and Zeev Farbman (founder of the Lightricks company) are all related pages that are a also strongly suggest a COI. Please let us know before editing further. --- Possibly 07:11, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
@Possibly: I have no conflicts to disclose.Definitely no compensation of any kind. Maybe my tone is sympathetic to the pages I'm editing, but I get involved on pages that involve subjects that I'm passionate about. Or I create pages that I think deserve to be here. For instance, I created the Niceland page after reading about them in the New Yorker and couldn't believe there wasn't page about them. This is no different to someone into astronomy editing pages about astronomers, etc. Do they have a conflict? All I try and do is edit and not violate any of the guidelines here. Wikipedia gives so much to me, the least I can do is to give back. MaskedSinger (talk) 15:50, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
PS @Possibly: I see what you're doing about artist stubs. If it's ok with you, I'd like to make it my new project. Work with you on fleshing out some of these pages. Please let me know. MaskedSinger (talk) 15:58, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
It is a bit implausible that you would make four related company pages: Draft:Enlight Videoleap, Lightricks, Draft:Enlight Quickshot and Zeev Farbman are all about the same company's products. We call this a WP:WALLEDGARDEN. Do you know someone at those companies? You do not need to have a financial interest to have a COI. --- Possibly 16:35, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I can't be any clearer. I don't know anyone there. I have no interest of any sort in the pages or the company. As I said before, we edit about things we're interested in just as you create pages in the art field. MaskedSinger (talk) 16:51, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I asked because COI editors will often say they are not being paid, but end up being connected to the subject anyway. By way of explanation, it's a frequent strategy for UPE and COI editors to create multiple articles about a company and its products. It often looks like promotion, and if some of the articles are deleted (as is the case here), it looks even more like promotion, since they were not notable enough to be were in the first place. I got curious when I was that you spent quite an effort trying to get a photo of the company's founder onto their page, (here, here, linking to their press kit. Also the list of edit interests includes Facetune, which makes five Lightricks-related articles. So that would explain my curiosity. Thanks for your reply. --- Possibly 17:42, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
This was the first page I created and I wanted to do a good job of it - this meant adding a photo and I had no idea how to do so. In researching to create the page, I became more familiar with them and it stood to reason other elements of the organization deserved a page of their own. I apologize for any impression of impropriety.MaskedSinger (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Templates For Discussion - AFL Player Significant Statistics Templates

A new discussion has begun regarding the AFL Player Significant Statistics Templates. Please add your thoughts there. DiamondIIIXX (talk) 00:30, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Dude, stop.

Take a breath. Then take a big step back. You've been here since 2019 and you have 1400 edits. That's a fine contribution, and one you should be proud of. But you just accused an editor with 15 years' experience - and more than 70,000 edits - of sock-puppetry and a conflict of interest. Experienced editors are not a protected species (hell, I've just accused an admin of meat-puppetry at WP:AN), but you need a lot more evidence than "gut feel" to go making accusations like that. The only person who currently seems invested in the issue of the Ethnic Business Awards is you. Blind passion and suspicion leads to mistakes like this. And it spirals out of control; editors see those mistakes, comment on them, look at what else you've done, see other mistakes, comment there, (comment here), and very quickly it looks like those editors are "very passionate" about the thing you were already suspicious about. So you accuse them of being involved too. Just relax. Most of those articles have been around for years. Its unlikely any of the people who created them are around now. Stlwart111 11:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

To help out a bit, I've ignored all rules and boldly non-admin-closed this AFD. It was never going to succeed and was just going to give you another front on which to fight an unwinnable battle. I'll leave the others for now, but you might consider withdrawing them if they don't get any support. Stlwart111 11:59, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Stlwart111 Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. You're 100% correct. Thank you. MaskedSinger (talk) 12:04, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
No problem. Just don't want you swinging wildly at the ghosts of Wikipedia past. Those things were created years ago. Thousands of articles are created that way, by single-purpose accounts that drop something off and never return. There's no immediate threat or urgency. If those things should be deleted, they will be. And if they aren't, well those single-purpose accounts had to wait a long time for that pyrrhic victory. Stlwart111 12:14, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
You're so right. Once you go down the rabbit hole of wanting to improve and clean up Wikipedia, you can lose yourself. MaskedSinger (talk) 12:17, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
