Thanks for the welcome[edit]

Thanks Matthew, I'm impressed by your energy. Glad to hear of the WPND project. I'm from Valley City but live elsewhere now. Have a passing interest in ND history and will contribute where needed. TSauer 23:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

--Cujhanso 02:32, 11 January 2007 (UTC) Thanks for the note. I'm really just getting my feet wet thus far. I work in the Archives at the Chester Fritz Library, and have really only tried to highlight our collections for specific individuals to date. Thanks for your support. Take care[reply]

Still carrying around the Esperanza e, I see... What happened with that group anyway? How are you holding up after that nasty AfD? And when should UND start a Wikipedia club? --AlexWCovington (talk) 06:29, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CC-Attribution[edit]

Not all of the images on Flickr are under CC licences, but for the ones that are, there's the CC options for uploading files. The CC-SA-A and CC-A licences seem to still be legitimate to the members of the WP copyreich. The licences are free enough for our use, even if they're not 100% compatible. --AlexWCovington (talk) 06:49, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is where you want to go to find CC pics on Flickr. --AlexWCovington (talk) 06:56, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
While we're on th topic of images, I've noticed that WPND hasn't bothered to track images in any manner. Should we add them to the big list or use another page? --AlexWCovington (talk) 07:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
with Image:Grandforks-sorlie.jpg, I listed the source URL, username, and Flickr itself, and I put it all up on commons. If that helps. --AlexWCovington (talk) 08:01, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sally J. Smith[edit]

Hi, Just curious why you changed the Sally J. Smith article from the normal Template:Biography. It's true there is only a little information on the page at the present, but it will grow and the areas would be filled in. Your reply is appreciated. Thanks. AppleRaven 20:29, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sally J. Smith[edit]

Hi MatthewUND, Thanks for the response. I'll leave it the way it is right now. I don't think there is really one way for articles to develop. Yes, it does look better this way, but the structure of what is missing is not there as well. Someone editing may not know what a solid bio page looks like and I feel the structure, even if barebones, shows the areas for improvement. Personal preference. Cheers. Orphaned fair use image (Image:UNDseal.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UNDseal.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Watford City[edit]

Matthew, I was unsurprised but pleased to see your hardworking name in the history for my home town's page and those related to it. I posted on User:Leopold Samsonite's talk page relating to the only thing I see that's off (and sadly don't have the time to figure out a good way to explain/fix). Thanks again for your dedication to the now-third least populous state's Wikipedia presence. :) Ari 06:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at carriee@bakerboy.com Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.20.67.4 (talkcontribs)

Matthew, You tell me to rewrite it in my words, however these are my own words based strictly on factual events. This is how we would the company to be viewed. Should any future changes take place that are edited on the Baker Boy wiki, they will be based upon factual interpretation, not just a marketing or sales write up. Martha Stewart[edit]

The infobox of Martha Stewart and its mugshot was put on within the scope of my project WP:CRIME, to organize all criminals' biography and crime-related articles. However, you have accused the mugshot as hoax, can you please state the reason? Wooyi 22:40, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, the blog thing I had noticed but it was the only alleged mug shot of her on the net, and I did not think about the possibility of grafting head before. now I am going to reconsider the image and ask other project participant about this, see if they get any verification info. If corroborated as a hoax, we should delete it. Thank you! Wooyi 22:59, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Square One Organic Vodka[edit]

Thanks for looking over the entry on Square One Organic Vodka.

The subject of this entry seems to me to meet very clearly the Wikipedia criterion for notability. I have added further external links below the main entry to emphasize that it has been "the subject of multiple, non-trivial, reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself."

Bismarck State College article and copyrights[edit]

The previous material you've included about BSC is biased, inaccurate, and therefore does follow the Wikipedia policy of being neutral. In addition, your material does not appear anywhere on the BSC website. I made the edit at the direction of mu supervisor at Bismarck State College. Please do not redit. Thanks

So if I include material about BSC that is written in my own words, you will not attempt to redit it with biased and inaccurate information?

bjork53 Patrick Bjork BSC Webmaster 701-224-2421 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bjork53 (talkcontribs) 02:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Thank you for removing the biased and inaccurate info. I trust you will not include any more un-neutral material?

BTW, I also edited the Mary site removing the similar "overshadowing" passage. You might also consider dropping "largest" from your description about Mary. BSC is the fourth largest college in the state with nearly 3500 students.

bjork53 Patrick Bjork BSC Webmaster 701-224-2421—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjork53 (talkcontribs)

I can't include any text, any words that might appear, however inadvertantly, from any other text? That's unreasonable.

I edited the BSC page, You may, of course, and as you say, edit it "mercilessly" yourself, and you may also complain to the editors about it. However, if you choose the latter I will most certainly complain to them about how you have been using Wikipedia to trash one ND college.

04:39, 16 February 2007 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjork53 (talkcontribs)

You know, I think it's very interesting that you chose to trash BSC while writing fairly comprehensive entries about all the other ND schools. I guess I am curious: Why are you using Wikipedia to trash BSC? I mean, you can get all self-righteous and attack me all you want but it is really you who have created the problem. Had you merely written a comprehensive description of BSC, there would have been no controversy, no? BTW, the information you generated about the other schools, those words you wrote, in other words, had to have been gleaned from other sources, no? Or are you all that knowledgeable about each and every aspect of each and every ND school that you can develop summaries without relying on words from other texts? Messages[edit]

Well none of the site's average users can hide anything, since it's all readily available in history. Deleting messages has nothing to do with having something to hide: if anyone wants to read about disputes i've had, errors i've made, or comments i've received, they can look it up. I need to delete messages to keep myself organized.Mr. Vitale 23:17, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Intimidation[edit]

I have ample evidence to demonstrate that you regularly intimidate anyone who attempts to edit "your" sites. You do so by mispresenting Wikipedia policy in an attempt to control your submissions.

As a result I have registered a general and legal complaint with Wikipedia, and have asked other editors to contribute their complaints as well. You are attempting to subvert the Wikipedia's very "reason for being."

We have nothing further to discuss.

yo[edit]

Sorry dude, I just logged in. I should have been checking in more frequently. I have little faith in the majority of admins. To many on power trips, or think to highly of themselves. Thats partily why I left. I was sick of arguing edits with douchebags. Granted, I still believe wikipedia is a essential service to all, but something needs to be done about the administration. If those who voted against you are too fucking anal to stick it to someone, fuck them and their fucking horse they rode in on. The manditory rules for adminship are to grey. Sometimes a few who do not meet the criteria get lucky, and the majority of the time of those who show exceptional work get hosed because they didnt comment enough, or whatever reason the first person to vote negatively comes up with.

Currently, and in the past year, quality admins have be dissuaded based upon those already in power thinking they know best. Unless attitudes change from arguing over things, to helping out their fellows,(ie. community portal) wikipedia will slowly become biased to whatever language those with the most stroke wish to present.

Fuck admins. I have no desire to argue with them over petty, insignificant matters. I wouldnt be surprised if I get some douche messaging me arguing counterpoints to my opinion. I wont give a shit, because I wont login for another 6 months.

Take care man, Find something less stressful to waste your time with. This is a hopeless cause.

Dealing with vandalism[edit]

Is it possible to ban the vandals on the this site. Other forums have it does this one? I will stop helping with the North Dakota porject if something is not done about this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leopold Samsonite (talkcontribs)

It is a waste of time on their part really. If they had any sense, they would know that any vandalism they do will likely be corrected in a matter of minutes or hours. It's not like their vandalism is lasting so why do it in the first place? Deleting a hub[edit]

I am in a Management Information Systems class and we have been assigned a project to add more information to the Minot State University page in Wikipedia. My group and other groups have edited to different hubs and we have noticed that the work we did was erased. We were just wondering why this was and what was the reason for deleting it. We have to present what we learned from editing on Wikipedia on Friday so if it is possible for you to let me know that would be great. This project was just to get us familiar with Wikipedia. Thank you for your time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lhmbww (talkcontribs) 20:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

User Talk Pages[edit]

I noticed your message on my talk page, suggesting that my editing out of prior comments was somehow inappropriate. I removed obsolete comments left inappropriately and precipitously by a since-discredited overzealous Wikipedia editor who simply refused to allow an article with a particular title to remain in Wikipedia for more than a couple of minutes. The issue was resolved months ago, the article remains, it survived a somewhat heated challenge for "lack ofsignificance", and I was reminded by your messages to me that my talk page was essentially polluted and misleading by the much earlier claim that it was vandalism. As anyone who wants to can, you obviously reviewed the history of the talk page, and took it upon yourself to chastize me for removing something that remains completely accessible to anyone who wants to look for it. I'm not sure what drives you, man, but a large percentage of your comments are nothing more than officious intermedling, which is why a lot of people have realized Wikipedia is a complete waste of time. NDUS System Articles[edit]

Dear Matthew:

I had done a bit of editing of the Valley City State University website a while back (fall 06, I think). Yesterday it was brought to my attention that the article has had the bulk of its content edited out. Perusing the pages for the NDUS system schools, it appears that UND has the most robustly devloped page, next NDSU, then coverage really tumbles downhill from there--even for the system's "third-largest public university" (viz., Minot State). Dickinson state, that has really taken the lead on international programs(e.g. in Russia, a campus being created in China) receives no mention of such unique features, etc.

I note that this page is part of a Project (or a couple of Projects) in Wikipedia--what's the game plan here? I'd like to contribute--especially where I can meaningfully do so within the bounds of truth for Valley City State--but worry about the thing being minimized again. For the To-Do list for the WikiProjecdt North Dakota, Valley City is indicated for "clean up," which is striking given its already tiny content.

-Assessments-
An intial round of assessments was recently done on all pages within the scope of WPND. These initial assessments...all 1,200+ of them...were done by MatthewUND. Matthew tried to generally follow the assessment guidelines found at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment.

To see the assessment of any North Dakota page, simply go to the page's talk page and check the WPND banner. The assessment is presented in a color-coded field in the WPND banner. To change an assessment, edit the page and change the word after "class=" in the WPND banner. Add one of the following codes:

Stub - for very small articles
Start - for slightly longer, higher quality articles
B - for high quality articles of an appropriate length
List - for lists
Cat - for categories
Template - for templates
NA - for pages that are not articles, templates, or categories

Any WPND member should feel free to change any page's assessment. However, keep in mind that there are assessments (particularly GA for "Good Article" or FA for "Featured Article") which can't be applied without having gone through a nomination process.

Flood image[edit]

Image:1997 Red River Flood Grand Forks.jpg

The image to the left seems to not be from the 1997 flood as the blue moose is not in East Grand Forks, and there are still rails on the Pillsbury Bridge (I'm sure there are other items). I left a message on the talk page for Red River Flood of 1997 and on the talk page for the image itself a while ago and got no reply. The the Army Corps of Engineers site did list it as being from 1997, but I have a feeling it is actually 1979. -JWGreen 04:14, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have attempted to contact the Army Corps of Engineers about the discrepancy. -JWGreen 04:48, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I lived in Grand Forks before and during 1997, and I believe this is an accurate photograph. I evacuated so I didn't know what downtown looked like in the flood besides the pictures, but the Pillsbury Bridge was demolished after the flood. The Blue Moose was completely underwater.--milk the cows (Talk) 01:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you check out the image's talk page at Commons, you'll see that JWGreen has heard from the USACE and they have confirmed that the pictured is indeed from 79...not 97 --MatthewUND(talk) 07:06, 23 June 2007 (UTC).[reply]

ND pics[edit]

Hi Matthew, thanks for the compliment regarding the Fargo pictures, I made them especially for Wikipedia. I took a road trip recently that mainly was in Minnesota, but I took some good pictures (unfortunately, only a handful) to add to ND articles, of Wahpeton & Abercrombie and the Red, Wild Rice, Sheyenne, Elm, and Goose Rivers, and I'll be uploading them in the coming days/weeks/months. (The last two need articles yet, which I intend to start, and I'm intending to help expand the Red River article at some point.) I wish I had the time and money to be able to travel more extensively around North Dakota taking pictures, because it's very beautiful and interesting. WPND Newsletter[edit]

I liked the WikiProject newsletter you put together last month - are you going to make it a monthly newsletter? If you need help with it at all, just let me know. Weatherman90 00:52, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting that you removed Mr Fujiwara's entry from the notable entries for New Rockford. Sadly, he was not JUST the inventor of colored popcorn. He was a scientist that worked on many other programs that have had lasting positive impact on the people of the United States AND the rest of the world. Mr Fujiwara worked on the replacement for lead in paint/researcher for Latex paint project. That work isn't much worth remembering unless of course you happen to be a person that didn't contact lead poisioning from paint. He asssisted Dr Von Braun's team with solid rocket research at Redstone in the mid 60's. It is ironic that his work on the solid rocket programe actually helped another New Rockford native achieve notable status. He patented "seasoned rye crisp" and other human foods to improve nutrition for low income families and was instrumental in the effort to put nutrition value on packaging. That's not important either.

Sadly you didn't consider his work noteworthy and chose to remove his name and ONE of the patents he was credited with. Though the man is not related to me, he changed my life and many others with his work on and in the scientific research community. Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies? Maybe you should do a little more research BEFORE you remove someone that actually contributed to the betterment of humanity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.173.0.195 (talkcontribs)

State Capitol[edit]

Thanks - I work there so I figured I would spruce the article up a bit and get a few photos. Weatherman90 17:08, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: Bennett Elementary...[edit]

Howdy! Thanks for the addition to the Bennett Elementary School talk page. I was a little disappointed to see it tagged as a "stub-level" article -- it was as comprehensive as my daughter's fourth-grade class could get in the time we had! I thought that adding a few footnotes might lift it out of stub-class. Hahahahaha. We'll live.

I think the entry can also count as part of the WikiSchools initiative, but looking at the template for that was making me go blind.

Take care!

re: Bennett reassessment...[edit]

ahhh... "start-class" is much better. Thank you!

I'm a little puzzled at Leopold Samsonite's designation of the Bennett Elementary School article as "written like an advertisement," though. I went out of my way to use the "elementary schools" template provided with the WikiSchools project, and made sure not to include any "our school is the best in the world"-type of statements. The information included is neutral and, for the most part, verifiable and verified. Thmoore 02:26, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Thmoore[reply]

I didn't know that I did, all I did was add the template for the school.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Leopold Samsonite (talkcontribs)

I have no problem with the split, but where is the women's page? I refuse to try to make a new one, I'm ready to leave the North Dakota page work. I'm sick of this crap. Leopold Samsonite
