World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

  • Dates: 8 to 29 November 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR) in collaboration with Women scientists: Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!
  • Sponsor: New York Academy of Sciences
  • Event details: This is a virtual edit-a-thon hosted by WiR in parallel with a "phyisical" event during the afternoon of Sunday, November 22 in New York City. It will allow all those keen to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women in science to participate. As the virtual edit-a-thon stretches over three weeks, new participants will be able to draw on the assistance of more experienced editors while creating, translating or improving articles on women who are (or have been) prominent in the field. All levels of Wikipedia editing experience are welcome.

5 Million: We celebrate your contribution

We couldn't have done it without you
Well, maybe. Eventually. But the encyclopedia would not be as good.

Myeong Hee-Yu

Hi there, I wanted to say that I liked your work at Myeong Hee-Yu, so I've nominated it for DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/Myeong Hee-Yu. In my opinion this is exactly the sort of thing that needs to be expanded on Wiki. Thanks! Miyagawa (talk) 19:57, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Myeong-Hee Yu has been nominated for Did You Know

Self-reviewed?

You marked your own article as reviewed? That seems inappropriate. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:22, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

WikiDan61 Mayhaps you should look again. Megalibrarygirl did not create the page even on the link you provided. Hrc04 did. Mega was the 4th editor on the file, not the first. Ironically, you were the second, before she even touched it. SusunW (talk) 14:27, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
True -- my bad. She is the major contributor, but not the original author. Apologies. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:28, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
WikiDan61 Thanks for taking a second look. ;) Kinda how work should go around here, IMO, you review, you find it lacking or in need of improvement and you do that. I so much prefer that to slapping a banner on it for someone else to do the work or for deleting it. SusunW (talk) 14:56, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'd meant to mark it as reviewed before I started adding the additional information! It was clear to me that the group was notable. I try to ensure that articles relating to women or what are perceived as women's issues get a fair shake here at Wiki. Sorry if it seemed like a conflict of interest, WikiDan61, though I didn't write the bulk of the article, I just helped source it. And thanks, too SusunW for pointing out the importance of doing WP:BEFORE or seeking to improve instead of nominating articles for deletion only ten minutes after creation, as this article was. It didn't take me long to add some good information. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:10, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

JSTOR cleanup drive

Hello TWL users! We hope JSTOR has been a useful resource for your work. We're organizing a cleanup drive to correct dead links to JSTOR articles – these require JSTOR access and cannot easily be corrected by bot. We'd love for you to jump in and help out!

Megalibrarygirl, how are you fixing these JSTOR issues? I am having terrible luck. I'm fixing other issues, but not the JSTOR issues. Ping me back. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 03:21, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi, Checkingfax, I found one JSTOR link that needed fixing and I actually replaced it with a link from EBSCO since apparently JSTOR didn't have access to that article anymore! I'm fixing other issues, too, like you are. I'm going to look at more, today, though... Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:08, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

Hi Megalibrarygirl, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Biblioworm 22:19, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Wooooooooot! \o/ \o/ \o/ Raising the roof (or drinking martinis) whichever you prefer :) SusunW (talk) 22:23, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
LOL, Thank you, Biblioworm. And SusunW, I'll take both. ;) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:55, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disambiguation link notification for November 28

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Shqipe N. Duka, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Macedonia. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Luciana Zogbi

i just started a page about Luciana Zogbi, she is an excellent artest in my opinion and I find it strange that no one wrote anything about her yet. My writing style may not be the best but at least its a start and people can find something here. It's now marked for deletion! any advice?

Hi Seriousbrain! I took a look at the article and what it needs is more news sources. Any article will survive the deletion process if it passes what is known as WP:GNG. This means if you find some good articles about her in the newspaper or a magazine, that will help show that she is notable and should be in Wikipedia. If you have sources now, add them. I'm going to see if I can find anything. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:45, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, MurderByDeadcopy!! I really enjoy seeing you on AfD.... it's a breath of fresh air! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 06:49, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much! I always appreciate your comments there too. But, then I've always found most librarians (such as yourself) to be wonderful, knowledgeable individuals! --MurderByDeadcopy"bang!" 18:39, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rhonda Patrick

Hi! Looks like the Rhonda Patrick article ended up being deleted. You can check out the AfD page for Spartaz summary, or, if you think you might have some salient points to add, maybe you'd join my appeal to Spartaz to reconsider! Thanks for some of the points you made on the AfD, especially about the ones about obvious prominence of the podcast mentions. All the best... Snazzywiki (talk) 10:17, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
