Event help?

Hi there, thank you so much for all that you do for WiR! I am running an event in March that I'd like to circulate and wanted to check before doing something incorrect: where is the best place to post information? Is it just to add a topic to the Project Page? Really appreciate any advice you may have. EriedgenArc (talk) 11:14, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

@EriedgenArc: You can let participants know about it by posting on the WiR talk page. That gets quite a few eyes. You may also want to post on Twitter and @ our twitter account: [1]. Good luck! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:59, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Access to historical Daily Telegraph obituary through Gale?

Hi Megalibrarygirl,

I have a favor to ask. I found you through Category:Wikipedians who have access to Gale (publisher). I am a non-British editor involved in a AfD discussion on Cyril Samuel Townsend and I am trying to get access to a Daily Telegraph article titled "Obituary" from 5 April 1949, on page 3. Unfortunately, Wikipedia:Gale only gives me access to the historical records of the Times, and I am therefore unable to access the Telegraph obituary. Any chance you might be able to dig up the obituary for Admiral Townsend for me? Thank you in advance! Pilaz (talk) 09:03, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Pilaz got it! I can email it to you. Send me an email and I'll email you back. I also found this and this. Though those are really small little notes about the court martial. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 00:11, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Pilaz I was too excited. It was the wrong Townsend. Maybe {{u|Ritchie333}} can help us get the obituary. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 00:13, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Repinging Ritchie333 Can you help? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 00:13, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't have access to the Daily Telegraph archives, only the Times via my Gale Primary Sources subscription, which is all my local library allows. You might be better off asking a UK Wikipedian in Residence like Andy Mabbett or Alice White, who probably know more than me about what's involved about getting access.
I can see a notice in The Times dated 5 April 1949 p.1 which reads "Townsend - On March 31, 1949 at The Old Rectory, Bishopstoke, Hampshire, Admiral Cyril Samuel Townsend CB beloved husband of Mary E Townsend, in his 74th year. Cremation took place on April 2 in the presence of his family." if that's of any use. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:52, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
@Pilaz Try asking on WP:REX. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:57, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

I note the AfD closed as "keep". I haven't tried WP:REX myself much, because I'm not sure of the audience. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:02, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi

Why are you an atheist? Hornbeel3 (talk) 05:25, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

@Hornbeel3: because there's no evidence of god. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:44, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
God exists, will it tell you? Hornbeel3 (talk) 03:48, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Donald Trump called himself a Christian after tear-gassing a bunch of protestors for a photo op. And then there's this lot. John Lennon said it best, "Jesus was alright but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me". Given Megalibrarygirl asserts to living in the sort of place that would have triumphantly burned Beatles albums in mid-1966, I'm not surprised she doesn't favour organised religion much. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:58, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
There is rebirth cycle. Many religions are businesses. Religions make the most out of human wanderers and their suffering. What do you think? Hornbeel3 (talk) 03:42, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, Ritchie333 is right. I'm not a fan of organized religion. It hurts a lot of people I know personally. I also don't think it helps us make much sense of the world, Hornbeel3. It asserts things without evidence. It asks that people act on faith. You can take any position on faith, but it doesn't lead to the truth. Being an atheist is freeing and gives me the chance to decide how I want to live, not how others think I should live. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:05, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Atheism too spreads hate like religions. Some fake religions carry the tested rebirths and astrology to pretend legit. There are many atheists in developed countries because they don't have the need to depend on religions Hornbeel3 (talk) 03:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Hornbeel3 I don't think anyone needs to depend on religions. I know some atheists are jerks, but overall, atheism never did anything because it's not a movement. It's just a lack of a belief. It's the default position to be without belief when there's no evidence. I'm sure we won't see eye to eye, and that's OK. I answered your question why I am an atheist and that's really all I can do. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

ANI discussion involving you

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is WP:Signpost team ignores NPOV. Thank you. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:09, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

BrownHairedGirl sorry for missing everything, but I don't think I would have had much to offer anyway. I only very occasionally offer my so-so proofreading skills to the Signpost and recently have been super busy in RL. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:51, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply.
No prob. It was just a courtesy notification, not a summons!
And the issue is now all resolved. EpicPupper replaced[2] the original editorial with an excellent NPOV text.
Hope you are keeping well in your busy times. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:37, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
BrownHairedGirl I'm glad everything was resolved okay! Things are alright here, just busy! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 22:09, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
