The Biographical Dictionary of Women in Science

Hi there, was going to post a request at WiR but I see that you are the librarian in residence. How cool! Would you, by chance, have access to The Biographical Dictionary of Women in Science: Pioneering Lives From Ancient Times to the Mid-20th Century? Google Books tells me that it's got an entry for "Dubuisson-Brouha, Adele". There's a stub article for her husband, Marcel Dubuisson, which I wrote (basically a translation of the French stub). At the time, something let me conclude that Adèle Brouha was the daughter of Lucien Brouha but I now think I've got that wrong; she's more likely his sister (Brouha had both a sister and a daughter of that name). Adèle Brouha appears to have been quite a gifted endocrinologist who, because of the times, did not get the credit for her work. So my desire is two-fold: get the detail right who she was in relation to Lucien Brouha / Marcel Dubuisson, and if the dictionary entry is substantial enough, I'll use it as the basis for a Wiki bio.

It's possible that you have full access to the book via Google Books. It happens regularly that people in Europe or the US get to see more than what Google offers to New Zealand users; I only get to see the parts of the book's index. It tells me that her main entry is on page 378. Would be wonderful if you could help. If you'd like to send me a scan / photo of that page, say so and I'll send you a Wikimail to which you can reply. Hi Schwede66! You can access the book on the Internet Archive here. You can create a free account, but I don't think you'll need to do that to view page 378 with the entry. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:15, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Ha, that's too easy. What a shame that it's such a slim entry. Thanks for sorting this out for me. I've given that lady a Wikidata entry. Schwede66 20:32, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Schwede66 No worries! Glad I could help! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:12, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Seeking biographies for Beatrice Shilling

Hello Megalibrarygirl, I have a request for the WIR library desk please.

I would like to try to improve the Beatrice Shilling article and it seems that two biographies have been written about her: [1][2]. Do you have any suggestions please about how I might be able to access these? Regards, MrsSnoozyTurtle 08:34, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi MrsSnoozyTurtle! There is a copy of "The Girl Who Could Fix Anything" at my library that I can request and have in hand in a couple of days. The other book, "Negative Gravity" isn't available near me. On WorldCat, it's showing that there are copies in other libraries, but I don't know if any of them are near you. In the Internet Archive, though, I did find this entry about her that may or may not help. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:27, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
That's wonderful, thank you for looking into this. The WorldCat link goes somewhere else, but I found these [3][4]. The first link says that there's two editions in 27 libraries, but the list below it says "No libraries with WorldCat.org subscription hold this item". Do you have any ideas of how to find the libraries which have it?
It is very generous of you to go to your local library to help out a stranger on the internet! I'd really appreciate that if it isn't too much trouble. Also, thank you for the link to the Daily Telegraph Book of Obituaries, I will use that to add some more citations to the article.

@MrsSnoozyTurtle: it's no problem to get the book. I'll order it today. As for the other one, if it's not in your WorldCat consortium, it's hard to do an Interlibrary Loan. That doesn't mean it's impossible, though. You may want to ask at your local library about ILL for that book. That's probably your best bet. I'll be in touch after I get the Girl Who Could Fix Anything. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:05, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much, that is very kind of you. Regards, MrsSnoozyTurtle 21:39, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
