El Paso Police and Fire Departments

Hi, Megalibrarygirl. A person at Wikiproject Texas suggested you to me as somebody who might be interested in helping with some El Paso articles. I've been slowly tinkering with the El Paso Police Department and El Paso Fire Department articles. In particular, at the moment I've just been focusing on adding a list of the Chiefs of those departments. It'd also be nice to have some photos to accompany the articles, perhaps of the headquarter buildings.

Regarding the Chief history, I'm at the point where sources are starting to get hard to come-by using Google and newspaper archives are needed. For the police chiefs, for example, only the recent ones have dates and reasons for the end of their appointment. One particular quick type of help would be to use your library resources to fill-in the missing author tags. I've also found very little information regarding J. R. Grijalva's time as interim Chief of Police.

I intend to make an article for the El Paso Sheriff's Office too at some point. I believe these governmental articles are socially important for El Paso citizens. Keeping track of the leaders and where they go and why helps them understand the city and the people running it as well as provide a historical reference.

For the Chiefs, there are three titles: Acting Chief of Police, Interim Chief of Police, and Chief of Police. I've noted many sources do not properly distinguish between acting and interim regarding the start dates.

Anyway, if you wish to help, you're welcome. There's no time pressure. I edit at a snail's pace. I suppose the quickest help would be just to find the missing author name(s). Jason Quinn (talk) 08:16, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

@Jason Quinn: I responded also on the WP:Texas page. But yes, I can definitely help you get access to newspaper resources. In addition, a lot of info you may need is located at the Border Heritage Center which is part of the El Paso Public Library. Give us a ring or drop me an email. If you live in El Paso, you can have database access to the El Paso Times. It's a new subscription, so I'm getting up to speed with access that way too. (I usually use my Newspapers.com account for that, but we have new online Times access. So we'll be in touch! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:19, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
