Philadelphia[edit]

Hey, i wanted to let you know, i didnt mind your cfd nominations. I just didnt want the squares to get mixed up with the streets. As for the renaming of the parks cat, i dont mind it to much, the only reason why i included squares in the name of the category is to pay homage to the 5 major squares in the city, Rittenhouse, Washington, Logan, Franklin, and Penn (the site of city hall), as the play an intergeral part in the culture and history of the city. Anyway, nice work on the breakdown of the articles into new categores, keep it up. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 05:07, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image[edit]

Hello! I noticed that you had Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg shown on your user page. The image is uploaded under a fair use provision, and Wikipedia policy states that fair use images should not be displayed on any pages outside the main (article) namespace, including user pages. Would you mind removing the image or simply linking to it? (Add a ":" in from of the image, like this: [[:Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg]]) Thanks a lot! DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Cambridge House, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Houses[edit]

I saw you had added a new pic of Beaudesert House from Morris - do you have access to a pic of Horton House or Easton Maudit House - Northants? Thanks Brookie :) - a collector of little round things! (Talk!) 06:17, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't. Sorry. Merchbow 13:11, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jones' Seats[edit]

Looks like this was a work in progress over some time, so both 1818 and 1929 could be correct...

25. Neale, John Preston, 1780-1847.
Views of the seats of noblemen and gentlemen, in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. From drawings, by J. P. Neale ...
London, Sherwood, Neely, and Jones [etc.] 1818-23.
6 v. mounted fronts., mounted plates 30 x 24 cm.
DA660 .N34
26. Neale, John Preston, 1780-1847.
Views of the seats of noblemen and gentlemen, in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. By J. P. Neale. 2d series
London, Sherwood, Jones and Co. [etc.] 1824-29.
5 v. mounted fronts., illus., mounted plates. 24 cm.
DA660 .N36

(from University of Florida English Dept's Rare Books Collection)

And shouldn't we be quoting the full title, and crediting the artist, John Preston Neale, rather than the publisher?

Mabybe we should, but I don't think unsigned criticism with bolding and italics is a fair response to my efforts. You can go through and amend them if you like. Merchbow 20:05, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wood Farm[edit]

I have a photo of Wood Farm but don't know how to post it. Can you help. Thanks. Ross Plaetzer rossfp@gmail.com

Vandalism of the England-realated articles[edit]

Please desist from your childish and malicious vandalism of every England-related article and category you can lay your hands on. --Mais oui! 06:20, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:No personal attacks. You are engaged in a one man political campaign, and several of the categories you created have been deleted. You are the one who should desist. Merchbow 06:23, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing a lot of excellent work improving Wikipedia's England-related articles. Work which clearly upsets some narrow-minded British Nationalists. You are actively proving that you do not deserve to be respected as acting in good faith, with your clearly politically motivated campaign to destroy the England subcategory system. As for personal attacks, I have been subject to a stream of low-level abuse from your campaign for quite a while now, when it is clear that the thuggish element are getting away with Wiki murder.--Mais oui! 06:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:No personal attacks. I am not a British nationalist, but I know the difference between English and British. Merchbow 06:32, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You clearly do not: you are actively trying to confuse the two by equating England with the United Kingdom. "I am not a British nationalist": it is crystal clear from you and your gang's behaviour that you are very anti-English and anti-Scottish - a classic sign of an extremist British Nationalist campaign.--Mais oui! 06:42, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:No personal attacks. User:CalJW is an avowed English nationalist, but is doing what he thinks is best of Wikipedia. I have no strong feelings either way but I like to keep things tidy. And so far as I know you have no basis for your assumptions about the considerable number of other users who have voted to delete your categories. Merchbow 06:51, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing the sandbox[edit]

When the Paris article was fully locked between 14 February and 6 March, I created the page in the sandbox to test some ideas. I overlooked the categories because my mind was on the main text. So thanks for fixing them. Green Giant 22:20, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After extensive edit warring, article protection, and the statement of the extended version supporting side regarding both the name of the article, and the intro paragraph, a poll has been placed. The brief version supporting side is to keep the name of the article AND the intro paragraph free of the UN name (FYROM). Keep in mind that you can select more than one of the options (8! to the moment) that may suit you. Please participate in the vote and ask other editors you know to do so too. Increased participation can make the outcome of the vote as NPOV as possible.  NikoSilver  (T) @ (C) 15:58, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Response[edit]

Although not Sir Richard Greenbury's PR advisor I have researched him in great depth after becoming ever more intrigued by his character following the publication of Judi Bevan's 'The Rise and Fall of Marks & Spencer'. I apologise for any way in which this may have seemed opinionated, however, having assessed all the facts of the matter I found this the most informative way of abridging his career following vague, misleading and incorrect pressumptions about his person spread as rumour by his failing successors. Would there be any way of returning some of the content as it integral to understanding his management style and role within business. Thankyou, and maybe I should consider going into PR. Would much appreciate a response. Thankyou again.

I did leave a fair amount of your material in place, but I'm afraid some sentences were so biased that there was just no way to rephrase them neutrally. If you would like to add some more factual material to the article, perhaps you could post a draft on the talk page and let me know when you have done so. As for opinions, they need to be attributed to a reputable source and balanced with alternative points of view: statements which are simply the writer's personal point of view aren't the thing on Wikipedia, even if the writer is right. Wikipedia is a tertiary source, not a publisher of original thought or analysis. Merchbow 14:41, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for your clarity, I will bear this in mind in the future. In the meantime I will attempt to re-write the article, though I am very busy at the moment. Your help has been much appreciated, and I advise you read 'The Rise and Fall of Marks & Spencer', I suppose I was frustrated, at the time of writting, by certain dates that did not add up within the novel portraying certain members of the staff (including Simon, Lord Marks) extremely adveresely despite a flawless track record when looking at the 'facts and figures'. Otherwise it was an enjoyable read, some of Harvard Businesses' essays are most informative, on the subject of Sir Richard, aswell. Thankyou once again, I realise you are a very experienced editor and I have taken your advice to heart. When I finally finish an edit I will post it on the talk page for you.

Removing the Italy-geo-stubs sub-types from the permanent categories[edit]

For example, here. I'm at a loss to see what you're up to here. You seem to be removing a perfectly good permanent category (to which it properly belongs, and is the only one in which it's being included) and replacing it by the duplicative inclusion of a stub category (to which it already belongs). Why? And would you mind terribly stopping? Alai 06:27, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was tidying things up. Perhaps you could stop instead. Merchbow 16:51, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly how is removing a valid category "tidying things up"? Alai 15:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MPs by Parliament[edit]

I have just posted a lengthy reply to the CFD for MPs by Parliament, and wondered if you might like to reconsider your vote for deletion? I have just put a lot of work into creating and populating these categories, after extensive discussion, and am sorry to see them risking deletion so soon. --BrownHairedGirl 17:44, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Merchbow,

...If you were trying to imply this is the single exception to a rule, you were obviously relying on other people not to bother to check.

Is this directed toward me or Peta...?  Either way, although it's conditional, it seems a little harsh...?   Best wishes, David Kernow (talk) 00:50, 20 October 2006 (UTC) (posted here in lieu of Special:Emailuser)[reply]

Thank you for your help on a recent DYK.[edit]

Thank you for your help on the Samuel Cate Prescott article. It earned a DYK on October 23, 2006. I greatly appreciated it. Chris 12:36, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The categories within this article are alphabetized; may I ask, is there a specific reason for your rearrangement? RadioKirk (u|t|c) 21:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is far more useful to sort them by relevance. Merchbow 22:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am searching for the guideline that suggests alphabetization; meantime, "relevance" is subjective and causes arguments over what is more relevant than something else. Please revert yourself. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 23:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Turns out the guideline noted only the order within category pages, not articles. Discussion started here. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 00:50, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Category for Bhumibol[edit]

Why did you remove [[Category:Reigning monarchs]] from the Bhumibol article? Patiwat 01:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I did that it was a mistake. Sorry. Merchbow 15:18, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I need to make the apology - I hadn't noticed that you just shifted around the order of the categories. Patiwat 16:14, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
