re adding to multiple pages the same link to an org's homepage (not even to specific condition sub-pages within the website) - Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. Milk allergy et al[edit]

Hi david ... we have been greatly helped by support groups, medical advice and information from the U.S.-based nonprofit charity, the asthma and allergy foundation of america. That is why I have added this link to the Milk Allergy page. I feel is it a highly appropriate -- non-commercial -- "external link". They have tons of free information about food allergies (including milk allergies) on this site and and it's all for free. In fact, this link is much less commercial that the other link you already have on this page for the Neocate corporate site "Act Against Allergy" owned, operated and maintained by SHS International, the makers of Neocate. Thank you for your consideration in allowing my link suggestion to remain in the "external links" on this page. I know that thousounds of people will be very pleased to know that this external resource is available to them, as my family was. Thanks! :-)

The issues are largely two-fold for this link:

It was being placed onto multiple articles, which in itself seems like spamming to me - disagree as you wish :-)
Far more importantly, the link being provided on each page was the same, namely the organisations homepage - this is poor practice and would be like linking every drug to the FDA's homepage rather than the FDA's relevant page for that particular drug.
- so whilst a link to the organisation's homepage might be acceptable for an overall article such as "Allergy" or "Allergy support groups", it is not directly applicable to say hayfever or milk allergy.
- Providing just a link to the home page (for the reader then to have to dig around for the specific information) seems, therefore to be merely advertising for the organisation rather than giving the reader of the wikipedia article a source for further information on the specific topic they have been reading about.
- so instead: the link provided for any given article should be the the organisation's specific page on that condition (i.e. not the top-most homepage).

As I am sure you can imagine, lots of websites, support groups and charities try (they or their user-base) to add links to their organisation. Wikipedia is not a directory listing service (see WP:NOT). So unless an organisation is particularly notable in a field (prefereably internationally, else at least nationally) or provides additional information (secondary sources preferred to primary, and generally tertiary sources a very inferior last place), then by and large articles should not be over cluttered with links (wikipedia is an encyclpaedia not a directory/phonebook/internet search engine)

WP:External links and WP:Reliable sources policies expand on various aspects of this.

In summary the links should be adjusted to the AAFA's specific pages on the relevant topics, so that other editors can decide whether the information provided by them really expands on that given in the wikipedia article. I have noticed that you have contributed to the talk page for Allergic asthma (Please do not type "OK"!!!). I wonder if you have an opinion on whether it should be merged into "asthma", or have Asthma medication merged into it??
