Hey Milonica, I wanted to know if it would be ok since all the newsstation articles were to long that instead of posting them on the stations page, I am in the process of taking the personalites and adding that link under newsteam. That way the names will be on their own page and not make the article seem so long. Let me know what you think. I already started with one. Thanks alot. TVFAN24 (talk) 22:22, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

I've done that before actually. You create an article named "WXYZ Station personalities" and take the information from the main and copy it over to the new article. You just have to make sure you have sources, otherwise the article will not last. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 00:38, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Format for "Sister Stations" section of the radio infobox

Thanks for spotting the error in a couple of radio stations I have been following, namely CJOB and its sister stations CJGV-FM, CJKR-FM. You correctly pointed out that "This is not the way it is done," referring to the listing of sister stations in the Radio Infobox by nickname, rather than the more acceptable call sign. The original mistaken edit was done here: Revision as of 14:18, 20 June 2011(diff) by an anonymous IP. I ignored it, as I did not realize the rule. It is not written down anywhere in the template page for "Radio", but I believe you are right.

You might have thought that I was the person to make the mistake, but if you look carefully, you will notice that my edit prior to yours (diff) was a response to vandalism (a Wikihound with whom I had numerous run-ins a few months ago has resurfaced and decided to troll me again recently by reverting CJOB back to 20 June 2011). When I reverted this obvious vandalism I also restored all the intervening edits, regardless of merit, to the present day. So now you know why the error appeared in my reversion. I have had a battle with this particular Wikihound back in June, and was hoping that he had given up. He might be aware that I have ways to have him blocked—as I have done in the past for this particular Sockpuppet—and apparently my warnings on his Talk Page (his current alias) have resulted in him abandoning this particular ID. He'll probably be back, so I must remain vigilant. I am very familiar now with his "faux" editing techniques and deceptive edit summaries, as well as the pattern of edits that he uses.

However, this is not your problem, so I just wanted to let you know what happened at the CJOB page. :-) --Skol fir (talk) 21:40, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Not a problem. I just spotted the incorrect format and fixed it, didn't place any blame on any one sole editor, but I'm glad you agree that the proper infobox format is the way it is now. I've been battling an IP sock who likes adding unsourced dubious television slogans for quite some time now. I know how it is to be in the trenches of Wikipedia :)--ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 21:43, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. IP socks have a way of interfering with honest, balanced editing. They are either just getting a kick out of hounding more established editors (out of jealousy or pure malice), or have extreme viewpoints that obviously meet with some opposition here, and their way of trying to get their extreme viewpoints heard is to attempt to sabotage articles. I am quite impressed with Wiki's way of handling these situations. One such incident by an IP "troll" made other senior editors first suspect me as being the Sock, but I was soon able to convince them that I was the victim. It can be rather distressing, but as you put it, that's the "trenches of Wikipedia." Sure beats real warfare, though! --Skol fir (talk) 21:57, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Followup...

To our previous conversation re: KENI. I'm sure you know of this site. If not, have fun. Most of it appears to be industry-oriented, though I wasn't sure if that was what you were looking for or not. Funny how when I began searching related to Alaska, the first thing to come up was Howard C. Bradshaw's sale of KIFW in 1962 (which was to Midnight Sun Broadcasting Company, the original owner of KENI). The "manager at work" is from Sitka and worked at multiple radio stations in the 1960s, and always has some fun stories to tell about his radio days when he does care to share those stories. As it specifically concerns the above, he mentioned that Sitkans tuned in to the broadcasts of local basketball games, not because they wanted to follow the game, but because one would never know what Bradshaw would say over the air next. From all indications, there were lots of real characters working in radio and TV in Alaska back in those days, though I'd suspect that was the case with a lot of different places. Cheers.RadioKAOS (talk) 16:55, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing that website, it has a lot of insightful information on it. Now we need to take whats there and start citing the articles here :) --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 18:57, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Parrot32X disruption

Hey. First off, let me say thank you for constantly dealing with this editor. It doesn't seem like it's going to go away, unfortunately, and there isn't a whole lot we can do about it. I'm offering to help you deal with it. If you want, send me an email about how you've been tracking down this editor's changes, and I'll try to lend a hand.

In the meantime, you may also want to look into some of the tools that have been written to help combat vandalism. They're listed over at WP:JS. There are a few that handle mass reverting an editor (this one, I think) that could prove to be useful. I've not used any of them, but I'm sure other people have. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 15:04, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I have a lot of television station articles in my watchlist (most of them after dealing with this editor) and if I see an IP address that remotely looks like the many I've seen, I check their edits, and if they follow a pattern, I proceed to check all and revert the bad edits. In the case of this most recent one, I was very frustrated with the whole situation so I reverted all of his/her edits. I check every edit beforehand, but 99% of them are introduction of original research or adding the dubious slogans (i.e. localized version of NBC slogan). Any help would be appreciated. I suggest a 24 or 48 hour block on that latest IP just to send the message further. The editor changes IPs following blocks, so like you said, its not going to stop any time soon. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 17:53, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
I put down a rangeblock for two weeks, so that should keep it quiet for now - if they continue using a similar IP. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 18:35, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

User blocked and all offending revisions deleted; you might want to contact WP:Oversight to have them purged completely. Regards, CharlieEchoTango (contact) 04:52, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, much appreciated. My only fear is this will continue for some time. What actions should I take next time if (when) the IP strikes again? I noticed by posting to the ANI board, that action was a lot quicker than just reporting it as vandalism. I am not threatened by this editor, its more of a hassle than anything else. Thanks again! --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 05:03, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
No problem. I personally noticed the report from WP:AIV, not WP:ANI, but posting to both doubles the chances of getting it noticed fast, and a lot more people watch ANI. Happy holidays! CharlieEchoTango (contact) 05:10, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

February 2012

In a recent edit to the page TV and FM DX, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. UK English is predominant in this article. You are welcome to redo your non spelling-related changes. Hertz1888 (talk) 23:46, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

My bad, didn't know that policy existed. Please feel free to revert my edits. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 23:54, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your response and cooperation. We're all somewhere on the learning curve. Please restore your other edits to the article; as most of the changes were spelling related, I reverted entirely rather than pick and choose. Best wishes, Hertz1888 (talk) 00:03, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

KLED

Back on March 31st, you created an article at KLED, for a radio station construction permit in Wyoming. It's actually not a new permit – it's the new call sign as of March 20th for a construction permit that was previously holding the call sign KWDU.

The funny part is that you also created the article for KWDU almost exactly three years earlier. So, now we have a duplicate. I'm going to merge the two articles together at the new call sign, as the newer article has a bit more information in it than the old one does.

Anyway, no worries - I just thought you might find the situation funny. Happy editing! Mlaffs (talk) 01:16, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Wow, didn't know that. The station is on the air, apparently operating on a construction permit. I work for the company that owns the station, so I know a little about it, if we need to expand the article. It is currently airing a classic country format, and goes by "The Legend." I can often hear it where I live. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 03:19, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

The article KEIP has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable - construction permit is no longer outstanding, and station was never licensed.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RE: Thanks

My pleasure. However, I'm not sure your assessment of the nature of the previous revision of this page is accurate. The media section was originally created on March 23 2007 by user DutchTower, who appears to have no affiliation with any local radio stations. At this point, it only stated "Sheridan Media" and did not list any specific stations. The individual stations were added on May 1 2008 by user Jeff Minn, who also appears to have no local radio affiliation. Then, on July 26 2011 a user at 209.193.77.82 included the radio stations owned by the Big Horn Mountain Radio Network by simply adding those stations onto the end of the existing list. You can see this is certainly the case due to the presence of a duplicate "and" in the previous revision. This IP address is evidently used by someone who works for those stations (it could possibly be their office IP), because their only other contributions have been to the pages for those stations. Therefore, it is ironic that you have suggested Sheridan Media was intentionally manipulating the page to their advantage. It actually appears that they had no involvement in it whatsoever and it was actually the Big Horn Mountain Radio Network which was responsible for the order in which these radio stations appeared. JamesBooty (talk) 01:09, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

I stand corrected, but I still feel the order is better as alphabetical. I would even champion to put them in order by frequency. It is my opinion of, regardless of who edited the articles, there shouldn't be any bias on either side of the fence, whether Big Horn radio or Sheridan Media. I'm not affiliated with either company, although I do know them well. The Sheridan market is unique to other radio markets because the level of competition between the two companies is evident when you go out in the community. People around that area know that there is stiff competition between the two. For the record, I did not look back at the previous revisions, and as such stand corrected. --ḾỊḼʘɴίcảTalkI DX for fun! 01:26, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
I agree. On this page there is no need to distinguish ownership and any neutral listing would be preferential. There are probably enough stations serving this area that they could be put into a list form in order of frequency. As far as the market itself is concerned I think it's good that there is a high level of competition as it should elevate the quality of the product produced by each entity to the benefit of the public -- unless it gets too mean-spirited.
