December 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Doniago. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of Slingbox. Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Links within the body of an article should be internal Wikilinks. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. OK, I could not figure out how to "send you a message on my talk page", so I clicked to "Reply" and asked if the new format was proper, but never heard back from you after a while.
I then posted what I thought was a correction to move my external link from the body of the Slingbox page to the "references", and within seconds, you removed it without why explanation. So I am confused - I moved the link from the body of the wikipidia page to the reference page, so why am I still getting warning about spamming? Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings.--VVikingTalkEdits 14:35, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, first time editing an article. So would the below edit be correct?
In addition, Step-By-Step instructions on how to build a Slingbox Alternative system is available. [1] MrEngineerMind (talk) 14:39, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.--VVikingTalkEdits 15:08, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure what VV is saying is that that link has no place in the article because it is a spam link and neither belongs in the external links nor as a reference. If you wish to contest this, I would recommend starting a discussion at Talk:Slingbox, so that other editors may more easily review the matter and weigh in. You absolutely shouldn't reinsert the link until you have a consensus to do so, in any case. DonIago (talk) 15:35, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for the follow up and suggestion.
Did I post my issue correctly in the Talk:Slingbox page? MrEngineerMind (talk) 15:53, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You did! I made one tweak, which was just to link the reference link you added to the thread (versus having it be at the bottom of the page and more challenging to link to the relevant thread). I've also offered my opinion there. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 17:41, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
